Thank you so much... I'm riveted by the content, and not even sure why. In the 1970s my grandmother's house burned down while she had renters. Four or five years later, my dad took us on a camping trip to visit the ruins --- at the end of an impassible 4 mile road. .... and the second day my sister, brother, and I were digging all around the burned out house that was built in the 1880s. The detritus left behind by a fire was matched in awe intensity by the other things we found in trash pits.

I like the fact that you show more respect then most for your dig sites.

Bulb you found was a hand thrown fire extinguisher bulb would break on impact an contents would put out fires. Known as fire grenades.
@joesmith-es1zy

@@matsnewo7379 That's what I thought it might be, they had some really nasty chemicals inside.
The ball at the beginning is a fire extinguisher, my dad, before he passed, was my go to encyclopedia on antiques, he knew everything!

I was thinking the same thing. Very thin glass for the time so almost certainly a throw able fire extinguisher

I was checking to see if anyone else had stated this before commenting. I agree and it was known as a "Fire Grenade"!

I love that you are digging up history. I love using antique kitchen stuff. It makes me feel like the person that used it before me their spirit is guiding me to make something good.

Same. I love using old tools and kitchen implements.
I think the round liquid filled is a “ fire grenade”, often filled carbon tetrachloride. Some times saltwater.
I hope you kept all the broken flow blue. You can use them for tiles. Love you videos.❤
Incredible that the hutch was the last piece! Awesome! ♥
Tom your folks endowed you with a handsome smile --- You can use it any time !
Those broken flow blue dishes would be lovely made into a mosaic. Something like a planter, or a garden stepping stone. Just a thought. You could grind or sand down the Ball jar that had the broken lid, and repurpose it into a vase.
You may have already answered this, what is the turn around time from when you dig and when you release the video? You do a great job adding photos and written descriptions to the videos. I also love the cleaned bottles with descriptions at the very end of your videos.
I watched another bottles dig video last night. I have now an even greater admiration for your channel. It sails high above this one and probably most. Your degree of expertise, professionalism and over all care is way above the norm. Their's was ill lit, poorly executed, careless and uninformative. They love what they do, but it came off as well, poor. Continue to soar high, your the greatest!! You leave that other channel in the dirt. I wouldn't be surprised if this is true as well for other channels God bless your work, and thank you for your wonderful channel!!!💖💖💖

@@thecatsmeowfromny they definitely aren't as good, but I try to watch and learn about bottles earlier than some in ND. The styles, etc. Of course, I have to research because they don't give any info. except year. The colors and crudeness of bottles from say, the 1830s are interesting. That said, they seem to have no respect for bottle handling and plates!! 😳😳😳 they are boring...I can see why you lost interest!! We are spoiled!!😁😁😁
I just ran across your video and I'm hooked. I have been a bottle collector since I was 10..I'm 65 now. You have amazing knowledge of so many types styles and ages. I'm super impressed. You're use of the advertising and other information in your final edit is icing on the cake. Keep up the fantastic videos.
Your work ethic and professionalism will serve you well. Good job on the hutch. Thanks for taking us along. God bless and God save our Republic!
Awesome! Lets dig!!

The research you do is impressive
Here ya go again Tom Rockin it! N.t.
About 40 years ago I was at a very remote area in south central Arizona near an area of a mining camp. We found about 50 bottles scattered over 20 acres above ground. Of the 50, 32 were Gerbhart Eagles. Dad said that there meat must have been really bad....
It's so chill watching your videos..I've been binge watching 😊
I was wondering if the globe is a fire grenade. It makes you wonder how sad it was for someone to have to pitch a nice porcelain piece that may have been a prized possession, or a wedding gift. The amount of that blue transfer ware indicates it was maybe replaced with something newer and they just chucked all the old stuff.
I was born and raised in San Antonio Texas. When I heard you mention the Gerhart name, I remembered exactly what it tasted like. Gerhart Eagle brand chili powder is still produced.
Finally, Tom a new video yay🎉
Those flow blue pieces are beautiful. That round piece is a fire grenade
The deep green piece that you pulled out, looked like part of a lamp shade, and the ball thing with liquid in it, looked like a Fire Extinguisher. The contents are some chemical that would help put the fire out. It seemed a bit smaller than the ones I've seen, but it sure looked like one. If you break it, don't get the contents on you, or inhale any fumes. It might be dangerous. I'm not sure.
@lpconserv6074

The chemical inside the glass ball is Carbon Tetra Chloride. Deemed hazardous, so don't break it indoors. Even though back in the day, that was exactly how it was used. It is very heavy as it turns to a gas and blocks the air from the flames so they go out.
@MrGlenferd
3 ай бұрын
I think it might be an extinguisher as well. If it is it would have contained carbon tetracloride. Deadly if you breathe it in.
Wow, we're in the money now, a new trowel, just a guess the round bulb may have been a fire extinguisher, filled with chemical to be thrown at the fire. Pretty good dig. Love you much. Afriend.
Hi Tom and jake another good bottle adventure yes that pit was loaded they was fully packed all the best Andrew south wales uk 👍 👌 😀 🇬🇧
Congratulations 👏👏👏 you had a pit full Thanks for sharing 👍♥️⚒️🇺🇸
Great finds Tom, the round glass bottle, I believe it to be a fire extinguisher. Take care and stay safe. 👍
Tom, that was an amazing difficult dig with the clay. What a haul of bottles. Loved the hutch and pharmacy bottles. Great dig, congratulations. 👍👏👏😀

Very old dolls like you found actually were tied together with string, like old time packaging. Another great video. Thank you for sharing with us
I've said it before, but I like the way you describe the glass, it's like you're the professor of glass containers. Thank you for showing us.
The hutch was a banger like my northern Minnesota mining town Hutchinson sodas. 💪😎
Happy December to you both. That was an interesting dig, beautiful finds, some gorgeous little bottles, the glass 32:37 to me, looks like a piece of the house finery. Must be exciting putting the plates etc back together. Thank you so much another great video.
That's awesome Tom. I just love your videos. I always watch them. Your just amazing
Also the etched drinking glass looked like it was green depression glass. It's possible it might be Uranium Glass. Shine a black light on it, and see if it glows.😊
would love to see your finds cleaned up and what you do with the broken stuff
Our last house had things like that buried all over! I LOVED digging them up!
I think that "bulb" was a fire extinguisher grenade.. Basically you throw it and it breaks and puts the fire out.. 27:25
I often think about the long boxcar journey some of these products made from the East!
Having to be stuck inside due to winter weather , I stumbled into you videos , you seem to have a style in the quality of your video's I like how you lay it out and the findings are incredible ,just showing the past is still setting there untouched after 100 plus years. I like your educational style. You remind me of a very young Dwight Yoakam ,you could play his double, .I was curious what you are doing with so may bottles after the dig? cool stuff ,keep up the fun job. Dale
Wow great job
Everytime you got a dig it’s always amazing to watch; lucky you wit all the hot spots your able to dig. Good luck Ty’s for your videos…
Why do you use the metal trowel for digging out bottles? Seems like it could scratch and damage the bottle as you're digging them out. Not a criticism, I'm just curious. Love your channel and content!
Think the glass ball is a fire grenade usually in kitchens or fireplaces to extinguish fire in emergency situations
Your knowledge is crazy man.
Cool dig Tom! thanks, I look forward to the next. Take care!
Pretty new trowel! Thanks for all the digging and uploading.
i wonder if the little jar at 23:34 held baby food. i went a-googling.. beechnut was available in 1891, beginning with ham .. gerber was available much later.. still in business. maybe potted meat or vienna sausages? i wonder too if the ribbed can/tin piece held some kinda lubricant? thanks for digging for those of us who are more city bound.. =)
This was awesome! I live in St. Joseph, MO. Pretty great to see a bottle from here!
Wow,what a haul!Great job guy’s!
That bulb bottle could be a fire extinguisher bulb.
😍 awesome dig!!!!!!
A lot of good finds. Thanks for another good video.. Take care. See ya next time.
Awesome finds!😊
Love your channel! Fascinating! Would LOVE to do this!!
awesome haul of bottles this week
Great videos guys, I may be mistaken, but your "light bulb" looks similar to a fire fighting device. Full of chemical and designed to "explode" in order to extinguish flames. Don't ask me how they thought that one up.

Fire grenade he posted on his Facebook page he found another in a recent dig.
Amazing
Greetings from Ireland where the word prohibition is unknown. What a collection of bottles, looks like people had two stores to choose from the liqueur or the drug store. Unfortunately in another 120 years all we'll find is crumpled up plastic coke bottles, okay there will de booze bottles and crumpled up drug store blister packs. Over here and in England the place were people dumped their stuff before landfill sites are called middens. Great stuff enjoyed that thanks.
nice dig. I have dug the red top flask before1900s for sure.
1,700 views and only 417 likes! Come on people, show your happy.
That is amazing
Amazing finds
Nice find.
That pit was packed! I love all the porcelain stuff. Cool chili powder ! I like that cool shaped ball too. So many interesting finds ❤
What another killer dig !
Can you make a video about how to probe out a pit
Cool dig
The round bottle looks like an old FIREX home fire extinguisher.
I wonder if they thought throw stuff in the ground someday someone will find it. Poor guy digging through our poo to find all these bottles. 😂 but seriously I’m intrigued by all the awesome stuff you find. I don’t think anyone will be digging through our trash pits.
7:47 shame it’s broken. Beautiful color of glass
Definitely keep all of those pieces of flow blue pottery! You could sell those by the pound to people who make mosaics!
38:24 CLUTCH HUTCH with 3 balls, 2 strikes, 9th inning with 2 out💥 👀
Great Idol ❤❤
Always do a thorough background check of the site you’re digging as you might get a surprise or two. With English dish ware you’re digging up I’m thinking an old hotel or boarding house. Possibly a communal burn area.
I can't believe you found a hutch in the last section of the pit! Nice dig!
This was very cool. Yankton is my town. I know right where you are
Always cool to see something from East Palestine no matter were it ends up another awesome video guys.
The ball with liquid looks like an early fire extinguisher. The ones I've seen have a metal ring they sit in usually attached to the wall in the kitchen. You would throw the glass ball into the fire with enough force to break the glass and release the liquid. Im not sure what chemical was used though.
The round glass ball with liquid in it is a very early fire extinguisher. Thrown on fire breaking glass ball and contents extinguished fire.
When you find broken porcelain, but there are clearly large pieces belonging to it scattered nearby, have you ever tried seeing if you have enough pieces to put it back together? I'd love to try kintsugi on a blue flow piece that you'd otherwise discard..
That pit sure was hard packed.
Guy knows his stuff probably been digging for a while.
I would like to see a video of the items after you take them home and wash and clean them up.
Not sure if anyone has commented, but that glass bulb filled with liquid looks like a fire grenade? Essentially an early fire extinguisher that people would throw at the flames.
Hi I am blown away Gebhardt are still here in San Antonio and still make the best chili powder
Gebhart brand is still around in the grocery store, they make enchilada sauce, etc.
The unbroken ball with liquid may have been a fire extinguisher - my aunt had them.
Awesome Tom you got a hutch all together. Lol
U need to start smiling you seem so sad you are being back history love it
The bulb could be an early Possible fire extinguisher
I swear I've seen this one before.
I enjoy watching your videos. In some future video, could you please explain the term solid use layer
I am new to your channel. What do you do with items you find?
The orb could be a fireplace fire extinguisher. It's pretty small though...

Probably, but he posted on his Facebook page that on a recent dig he found a fire grenade. I think the contents are toxic.
I think that someone was truly ill and someone loved to drink in that household. What a mess for sure. Thinking about what we buy today and the sizes they paid quite a bit for what we call samples. What a difference the years make. It is too bad that everything graduated to plastic now instead of the glass jars. Have a great day and happy digging
The tiny bottle from SF may be opeam or other pain power medicine they add it to water in those days be for that it been in paper pk in box witch earlyer way shipping it cool to see different ways sold stuff in other years watching the video s you share
Bulb looks like what the used to put fires
Hi greetings from the UK,love your videos. With all the bottles that you dig ,do you mange to sell them in auctions?
