That’s an absolutely insane amount of trash in that river… The population of that country needs to be [censorship] for like 5 years under strict [censorship] wielding “rebels” to punish THAT much trash in a little creek… the freaking excavator was having a hard time keeping up with the flow of new trash while scooping the last bits out… anyone else see that? It literally kept cleaning and more and more and more and more kept piling up… I bet they can just lay that excavator and trucks to show up once an hour and they will get a full truckload… it’s as if this one creek in a decade will produce enough to create 90% of the ocean’s/world’s garbage patch/microplastic/polution problem… if there are multiple creeks or even rivers with this intense of a trash flow then we are truly going to ruin this planet within the next decade beyond repair… trash trucks and excavators won’t save us then. It will be beyond repair for the next 200,000 years or more.

That’s an absolutely insane amount of trash in that river… The population of that country needs to be [censorship] for like 5 years under strict [censorship] wielding “rebels” to punish THAT much trash in a little creek… the freaking excavator was having a hard time keeping up with the flow of new trash while scooping the last bits out… anyone else see that? It literally kept cleaning and more and more and more and more kept piling up… I bet they can just lay that excavator and trucks to show up once an hour and they will get a full truckload… it’s as if this one creek in a decade will produce enough to create 90% of the ocean’s/world’s garbage patch/microplastic/polution problem… if there are multiple creeks or even rivers with this intense of a trash flow then we are truly going to ruin this planet within the next decade beyond repair… trash trucks and excavators won’t save us then. It will be beyond repair for the next 200,000 years or more.

Unfortunately, like prev said, plastic recycling is completely inefficient, but still better in a sanitary landfill than in the rivers polluting the entire waterway

No matter how kind this gesture is, sadly, this is just temporary solution. People need to be disciplined and to be educated to prevent this problem entirely.
The new interceptor design works so well! I'm also glad that you put a second barrier in further downstream. You can see that some of the trash gets pushed through before it clogs itself.

And yet in the states I just heard about a company dumping so much milk in an area for so long they created a basin of toxic liquid and refuse to do anything about it when the residents complained about the toxins getting into the crops.

Antes da barragem encher de lixo daria para eles prenderem uma rede na outra margem, ai encheu eles puxam daria pra segurar mais lixo antes de chamar a retro escavadeira ou ela faria o trabalho mais rapidamente por evitar o deslocamento a todo segundo pra buscar sujeira mais longe

Guatamala, like much of south asia and the middle east, needs to aquire and use trash cans, garbage trucks, and landfills. This is what happens when you don't have a waste management utility.
I literally live near that river and I wasn't aware of the amount of trash that ends up there, it's really sad that most of us don't know about how polluted our environment really is. To the people that helped with this project: thank you so so much ❤

This project does close to nothing if people don't change their habits. But this video can be a great tool to raise awareness. I think it's more important to educate people not to litter than pick up what they throw away so they think "some of us will take care of this"

Can you make some sort of conveyor belt like they use in the klondike that goes from the water straight into the trucks. That would probably be quicker than an excavator I would expect!
This is what environmental activists should be doing instead of throwing paint on art or gluing themselves to runways. This actually made a difference.

The problem is not the collection the problem is how will it be recycled.
