14 years to build and this is the first steaming 21/08/2015

John Davies of the Llanelli & District Model Engineers, has taken 14 years to build his Miniature Steam Traction Engine, and today with the help of friend Rob Rayner, the machine was steamed for the very first time at Pembrey Country Park, in West Wales.. It was an exciting time seeing it come to life, and it all went very well, with only small adjustments required to make it run perfectly.

It's a single cylinder and prone to getting stuck on front or rear dead center. On a traction engine you can get over this problem by taking it out of gear and rolling the flywheel/crankshaft past DC by hand. This is not so easy on a locomotive!!

Timing of the valvegear is way off. Beautifull engine, but some issues need attention(maybe already solved). Injector didn't work, hope that's fixed. I hope it runs ok now, keep up the good work!!

This was it's first steaming John, and obviously there were several issues that needed Attention...The engine now runs smoothly and has been adorned with additional items.

@@robmasterman , i thought so. For beginners in miniature steam my comment was to let Them know that this is niet how a steam engine should run. Good to know that the issues are cleared and she is a nice runner now.

Please put subtitles. I couldn't understand a thing they said because of their strong accents, and I am a native English speaker. If I am having problems, imagine how it must be for anyone for whom English is a second language.

I'm sorry to hear that Bruce, you're the first person out of 156,000 viewers who didn't understand what was being said, I must say that I am surprised that you couldn't understand a word that was being said, considering that the people who were speaking were simply speaking English with a Welsh accent. Unfortunately, I cannot add any additional sub titles after processing this video,

It took that long because John made most of the part himself, each one engineered to precise measurements, and as a hobby, you take your time to get it right. These are not mass produced machines.....Bob
