They were very low volume and effort, he used them to bridge from one subject to another, and he only used "adorable" which not only allows him to keep his value, but also plays into his frame, with the whole age/school dynamic. He even played into this with the head pat comment. None of it came from a needy frame complimenting her for value. In fact it could be seen as almost patronizing if you twist it as such. Always look for the deep layers, not the surface.
