The year doesn't start well for us on widebeam Weir on the Move. Find out why, and what we do to solve the problem. Also, we move the boat as our 14 days are up, and we manage to turn our 65ft boat in a 60ft winding hole.

Happy New Year! Dealing with those mice must be frustrating but I'm hopingyou've been able to banish them. I agree that 2022 has begun on a strange note for many. In the first week of '22, my area of South Carolina, USA experienced 10 mini earthquakes. Crazy!

Your Video brought back some lovely memories. In 2016 my wife and I, our youngest son his girlfriend and their dog Walter hired a wide beam from Moonraker Boats and spent 4 days and 4 nights traveling as far as Little Bedwyn and back. We winded just past Little Bedwyn and that evening we moored up more ore less exactly were you were moored by Crofton Pumping Station. I REALY REALY wanted to see the beam engines but the place was closed!!! It's a pity your dogs couldn't get on with a couple of cats, that would really sort out your rodent problem. Hears an Idea for you, If some one could bottle sent of cat and make air fresheners they'd make a fortune. I look forward to your videos and cant wait for the next one. Happy New Year. Morgi.

In spite of all your rodent trials and tribulations, you two still manage to cause us to laugh out loud! Your parking by the bins put me in mind of some Morrissey lyrics : And you have never been in love Until you've seen the dawn rise Behind the Home for the Blind I don’t know why but I could see the two of you huddled in the freezing cold car, courtesy of the above rodents, watching the sunset by the bins ……. just picture it. Living your best life! I do applaud you for wanting to remove the mice humanely though. We had mice in our garden shed once and did exactly the same as you - putting a large metal humane trap into a bin bag and driving a fair distance for release. Good luck.

Happy New year! You might try using Peppermint oil to get rid of those pesky mice. A few drops on a cotton ball and just put in the areas you have seen evidence of them. Supposedly mice hate peppermint oil and will leave! I find it wherever you can get candy making supplies, it comes in tiny bottles. Used it at our house, we live across form a field, so the mice came visiting. We put cotton with a few drops of the oil on them and just placed them around - the mice left! So each year before it gets cold, we do this, and we don't have mice visiting. Plus, it smells good!

When we lived on an acreage property in Brisbane we had a brilliant live mouse trap that worked every time. Constructed of wire netting on a galvanised base, they had a wire funnel entrance on top that led to about 25mm from the bottom and once inside they were unable to escape. Emptying the trap was via two clips either end; simple and effective. Generally available from farm produce suppliers. Good Luck............

We live in a cabin in the woods and mice try to live with us from time to time. We started out using human traps and caught two or three, releasing them as instructed but fresh mouse droppings continued appear to every morning. Then I happened upon an article questioning just how humane it is to release mice into the woods where they are likely to be eaten soon by any number of predators. Then we went to a guillotine trap, which is oddly humane in that they are killed instantly with a blow to the back of the neck. Thirteen trapped, and that was it. It is a very difficult issue, but in the end we felt it had become a question of health. Good luck, whatever you decide!

I feel your pain with the mice - it's really horrible. I use humane traps from Amazon, they are a clear amber coloured plastic and work really well especially with Nutella which I found was even more irresistible to them than peanut butter... however I was told you need to get them 3-4 miles away (unless you're on the move anyway) and the benefit of them being clear is you can see if your little friend is in there or not. Happy new year! Your car: could also well be a beech marten, they love chewing up cars... 2 things might work, 1: get some of those toiletblocks (for flushtoilets) - find the cheapest, those smell quite strong. Fasten a few around the engine (but not too close to your air-intake else the whole car will smell inside). Often keeps them away. Added 'repellent': spread out a piece of metal chickenmesh, size of your engine-opening plus some extra, on the ground under the engine. Both rats and marten very much dislike having to walk on that. Mice/rats in the boat: collect a bucket, a piece of electrical tube as long as the width at the top of the bucket, and a piece of threaded end or thin metal rod a bit longer then the topwidth of the bucket. Two holes across from each other just under the top of the bucket, stick in the metal rod/end, put it through the electical tube inside the bucket and then out through the opposite hole. Peanutbutter on the electrical tube halfway it's length, few pieces of bread with peanutbutter on the bottom of the bucket. Piece of mesh or some boxes as stairs so they can climb to the top (at both sides of the bucket). They will try to climb on the electrical tube, which will start rolling and they will end up at bottom of the bucket (which of course needs to be higher then they can jump). Good luck!

I had a small wooden house besides a wheat field, every harvest I would get small field mice. I put peppermint essential oil at all the points they could get into the house. Your dogs won’t like the essential oil either, so be careful where you put it. If you think the mice climb aboard on the ropes, soak some thick cord in the essential oil, and tie/wrap it around the rope. HNY🥂🌸😎🖖

M & J, Sorry for your troubles to begin the year. Are you sure they're mice? Rats wouldn't have to get all the way into the trap; they might be eating and backing out without triggering the door. Maybe try the bigger trap? Also, they can eat through plastic containers (we learned from experience); you need to get metal ones. We gave up on the humane traps and went to the electric ones, which worked. Good luck! This Too Shall Pass!

Peppermint & spearmint chewing gum sticks in it's paper wrapper are safe great way to keep the rodents away. Also regular original scented dryer sheets, placed in cupboards. Not linen or Lavenders scented will not work. I had found rodents in a storage bin and under the hood of my car. I put dryer sheets everywhere in the car and chewing gum sticks. They🐁 left both places. Eucalyptus & Bay leaves may work too. I had rotation of all three placed in my car. Good Luck!!🐁👽🐁 (Posted from 🇺🇲)

I have no experience with this problem, but I think the answer is, to get a different humane trap - The reason the mouse is able to escape is because although it enters the trap and eats and activates the lid, it's tail is stopping it from closing, which allows it to twist round and get out - go for a longer trap :-)

OK. Any way. Couple of things. We have 10 years on a boat with some mouse infiltration. Tried the traps that don't kill. Don't work! The only thing that works is 'Little Nipper' the traditional mouse trap. It does kill them in a humane way. Get rid of them otherwise they will chew though cables et al. If you kill one, there's plenty more to take there place. Looking to get a dedicated page together this year featuring quality videos from boaters. Would you be interested in being included?

We got mice in our camper and tried the live traps and they didn't work either. I know this isn't humane, but after all, mice are not an "endangered species". We ended up getting a pack of 4 small mouse traps. Set them out with a bit of cheese (old school method). We placed them where the dog couldn't reach, and where we found droppings. Throughout the night we kept hearing "snap, snap, snap". By morning all the mouse traps were full of deceased mice. Did it a few more nights and before long, they were gone. Of course when hubby wasn't available to empty the traps, I just threw mice and trap away in a bag for disposal. lol You did right in putting "everything" in sealed containers. That stops their food source. Then of course, looking for ways they are getting in. Maybe at night pull in your board that you walk on to shore so they can't "walk right in" might help. There is another method out there that involves a bucket and a revolving lid, but they are expensive. Good Luck

I tried humane traps peanut butter, biscoff spread, chocolate all to no avail.. its not just about the trail of food they leave behind but the diseases they bring in.. My parrot who has never plucked her feathers since i got her at 3 months old was now tearing out her feathers not eating.. ended up finding mites in her food.. i cought 2 mice one at 3am and one at 9pm. 3am one ran down stairs ended up catching it in a glas tumbler blocked it way so it had to jump down the 2nd last stair and ploped into my trap drove 3 miles to release it.. 2nd mouse alot smaller ran across kitchen floor infront of me. Caught it in a biscuit tin gave it a shugle and drove to same place i released last one.. decided that it was best to put bait traps down so they stay away.. when i moved furniture found a corner full of parrot seed. There stash.. havent heard any more since.. hopefully they will leave your home soon since you've put everything in plastic boxes.. good luck..

Omg poor u ! In my house last year had mice thanks to my disgusting neighbour. And we ha floating ceilings apparently! I have two dogs but do have bait stations in every room hidden under furniture. It is poison but is a pain free way and a top brand. The plug in wiring shakers are marvellous as they make it very unpleasant place for mice to want to be plus ultrasonic bleepers in big cupboards. And kitchen drawers. Touch wood. Went in days. Guessing in a boat it could be quite difficult getting rid of them. Plus they multiply at a rate of knots ! If it were rats the droppings very big compared to mouse apparently. The car sounds like possibly a squirrel. Have you removed the plastic engine cover ? Bet you find a pile of nuts under it. It’s warm under it and they love it there. Not experienced that but have read about it - good luck. Best wishes.
