I felt for that helper and wondered how the courage test would go. Poor Jose! Dog is a TANK. Great training, good team and nice work by everyone.

Dog is tired true, but not tired to cause heart failure and not execute the job. Without Jose’s bite sleeve the job would be finished right away! Manstoppers need to weigh a good amount to execute the job. You can’t ask an NFL player to loose weight though, same concept for this job!

Wish they showed actual protective behaviour or man aggression rather than sport drive. Biting a sleeve is not much of an indicator if the dog is going to bite the intruder, especially when there's more excitement to bite the sleeve and run away as if it's a toy. Would they lose points if they got the sleeve but focused all the attention back on the decoy?

  • @RottweilerMagazine

Dog sport is a sport. It is all about the sleeve. The dog with highest points wins. We want the dog to get in highest drive possible and then instantly listen to the handler. Why would you want a dog to bite a human? Dogs can only focus on one thing at a time. If a dog is focused on the sleeve, and he has the sleeve, then he is not focused on the helper. In schutzhund, the dog is guarded on intensity of the guard, plus the grip on the sleeve - especially on the defense when the helper is driving into the dog waving a stick over the head. This is where the nerves in a dog is seen and where weaker nerved dogs will shift grip. A dog who understands schutzhund understands it is a game and the game is to be allowed to bite the sleeve and try and get it from the helper. But to listen instantly what handler tells the dog to do, including outing and guarding. If you want a dog to show man aggression, that dog would not be a sport dog. In schutzhund there is zero tolerance towards human aggression or dog aggression. Schuzhund is dogsport. If you want to teach a dog to be mean, and to bite humans, then you probably need a different breed and also it would not be a sport dog - it would be more like a personal protection dog, military dog, police dog, border patrol dog etc. Not a schutzhund dog.

@@RottweilerMagazine I agree with most of what you say but Rottweilers are great guard dogs and certain lines produce strong man aggression, having a sport dog does not correlate to a protection dog. I have Rottweilers and they are great family dogs but are very protective and man aggressive. I didn't fully understand what the scbutzhund requirements were and assumed it was to show some traits of the dog that can be used in a protective scenario under a controlled environment. Didn't mean to put the dogs down or to down play schutzhund.

@@RoyceCassius - temperament per the FCI Rottweiler breed standard (written and managed by ADRK) is clearly stated. Dogs who are man aggressive are not correct Rottweiler temperament. Schutzhund is a dogsport that tests the dog's ability to switch drives and it also tests the dog's courage. Many dogs, most breeds, would let go of the sleeve and turn tail and run off the field as fast as they could if a stranger came at them waving a stick. A dog's temperament can clearly be seen on how the dog bites the sleeve and maintains grip while under pressure. Rottweilers are guard dogs. This does not mean they want to bite people. It means they will guard property and most thieves/vandals will choose a different property other than property that contains a Rottweiler. Lines that produce man aggressive dogs are only suitable for military and police homes. Any dog can be taught to be mean and man aggressive. A great Rottweiler in schutzhund will do his best to get the sleeve from the helper and then the dog will often guard the sleeve if successful. I am this year titling my 8th & 9th Rottweiler to IGP3 (Schutzhund 3 - highest level). The dog in this video is a son of my male, Heizelwood Ice, IPO3, FH2, Ztp, CH, 2016 Universal Sieger. Another of his sons was on the USA team and trialed at 2022 IFR World IGP Championships. My two females are littermates and one of my females is the only female Rottweiler in Canada who I have heard of currently trialing at the IGP3 level. Littermate to my male was 2017 ADRK IPO World Champion.

@@RottweilerMagazine I agree with the temperament of what the schutzhund looks for but far as any dog can be taught to be man aggressive is wrong. alot of them have traits of fearful aggression or unsocialized aggression. Not all thieves will choose a different home even if there's a dog guarding the premises, waving a stick is one thing but when a bar hits a dogs head it's a different story entirely. Alot of these dogs in sport scenarios can't handle real life scenarios. There's a big difference in a sport dog and a protection dog. A good rotty should know the difference between a threat and toy. I have Rottweilers and bandogges and would not change, great with my kids but when I needed them in real situations they were extremely capable. My family hav had the same type of lines of Rottweilers over 4 decades because of their man stopping ability and intense guarding instincts. Nothing wrong with schutzhund, not all dogs have it in them to become great protection dogs or be a mentally strong in harsh environments and that's where dogs can excel scbutzhund instead.

Rottweilers should not be naturally aggressive towards mankind. And a dog that excels at IPO would also Excel at personal protection. If your dogs are naturally human aggressive then they have serious temperament issues. Personal protection dogs are born out of dogs like this. You seem to be liking some serious canine knowledge as your comments clearly show
