This car blew everyone away, LITERALLY during the 1970 Can-Am! It was banned as the fans sucking air from under the car to make it stick to the road proved to be an unfair advantage over the other competitors who didn't have such a device for their own cars. Also, any dirt, stones, and other debris the car drove over was sucked up by the fans and shot out of the back of the car! Anybody driving behind it got debris thrown their way!! In fact, if you could place this car on the roof inside a building, the fans actually have enough suction power to keep the car on the roof!! As such, you can even drive it on those Hot Wheels loops REGARDLESS of your speed! You will not fall off!!

Did u know formulas can drive on any roof at top speed and also can FCKING FLY (considering their shape, they are able to fly for real... but not to land correctly :l i guess on gt it doesn't matter :) Also don't think i'm making fun of that beast, i'm telling things randomly :)

TheIvan845 It was very well optimized. Every inch of the ps 2 performance was in good use in this game. Games today are not this optimized. If they were, heck, they would look great.

Yeah when I was driving and you watch this it was tooo fast

I'm pretty sure they tried to replicate the suction effect in this car, it had obvious high levels of downforce but when you got it airborne, say over the crest at el capitan or the crest about 1 minute into the nordschleife , it had no downforce and flew for miles. probably why the suction-breaking bumps down the mulsanne cause the instability

Wisedom Spreading actually the issue with fan cars or like the sliding skirt f1 cars from the 70s was that when they hit a curb and the car was raised off the ground, the seal under the car was broken and the low pressure air, and hence the downforce suddenly reduced, so having no downforce unless planted to the road was realistic in gt4

Actually the car was never “sealed” to the ground, there was almost always a clearance of roughly 1 inch between the side skirts and the ground. It was designed with rough road surfaces in mind, so the real thing would certainly have no trouble keeping a straight line down the old Mulsanne Straight. Sometimes simulators/racing games aren’t faithful to the original driving experience of certain cars at all, and this is one of them. It’s much more forgivable than Forza’s constant butchering of the McLaren F1 road car’s performance though.

I remember after a lot of research and doing tests, finally I got the best tuning for it. It was so drifty, It was undrivable for me but the B-spec was dominating everyone with it in every single race LOL😂😂

The 2D is an amazing car with 2-3 gears.. I loved driving it in the game. Wish it was in Ps 4 Gt Sport now.

This Fridge is basically Red Bull X2011, just mad I'm the 70's era.

karkarra GT4’s graphics were impressive. But also remember that this was a game that came out in the late stages of the PS2’s lifespan so the developers were able to master and know the capabilities the console could be pushed to. The PS3 came out under two years after.

This car was my favorite to drive in the game. It also inspired my favorite F1 car as well ( the Brabham BT46) which was so dominant that teams asked for it to be banned

loved this car! and played it a lot! turning was also great but you needed to be very precise with your controller..

I forget the setup I had cuz it's been so long, but I loved driving this thing. That much I do remember.

The most unique car I can think of at the top of my head, tbh. It has only 3 gears, has no headlights, looks like a washing machine with fans on it, is a convertible racer, and has long gear ratios (the first gear goes to like a 100 or so mph lol.)

In GT sport we have a lot of tracks and cars missing that we had in GT 4 and GT 5. Chaparral 2J was one of the fastest car at that time.

Holy crap I’ve actually seen that thing in real life! It’s at the petroleum museum in Midland, TX. A petroleum museum sounds like the most boring thing ever, but it’s actually super cool, I’d highly recommend. Also if you look up a picture of “midland petroleum museum” you can see this car in one of the pictures! Super cool!

Appart from this car love to wiggling itself at high speed. The 2J has better tire efficiency than most of LM cars

I always found the way those arcade games select the cars for the grid extremely crazy. In which planet a Chaparral 2J would be a match for Mazda 787b, Toyota GT1 or CLK-GTR at any track (and specially at Le Mans)?

Loved Chaparral, 2J is fast but really difficult to control, in max speed 2D is faster (arround 450 km with upgrades). Love GT4 and his world map GT mode, my hope is PD follow the same idea for GT7.
