Hart island was also a city prison and a Nike missile base. Rat island really doesn’t cover at high tide, as a kid my friends and I swam there from Bown st beach, and I used to dive there for lobsters. Great memories growing up on city island. High island at one time was residential with several private homes.

Hart Island management was transferred to the NYC Parks Dept several days ago. And will now be more accessible to the public. Once they figure out the transportation access logistics.

You can see North Brother Island and his little brother at a cool lil park called Barretto Park in the Bronx. They have some plaques about Typhoid Mary and some other cool tidbits. Decent views of Queens and Rikers Island and sometimes in the summer The Floating Pool Lady docks there. Used to me and my dog’s favorite place, but then we moved to Brooklyn.. it’s worth paying a visit.

Awesome video! i was trying to find an additional island, and I came up with the island that Meadowmere Park is located on. But technically Meadowmere park is in Nassau and therefore on Long island, and Meadowmere, Queens adjacent to it is of course in NYC, but its not an island. So, I guess as for now your list is exhaustive! Maybe we'll get another Hurricane (Sandy) (hopefully not, though) which might CREATE some more islands. Again, great stuff! :)

There are over i million bodies buried on Hart Island. Some other facts. During the "Cold War" there were Nike Ajax missile silos. It was also training grounds for "Colored Troops in 1864. It has been a prisoner of war camp during the Civil war. Also NYC prison, drug program ETC. There is a nice story on Wikipedia about the island.
