I have a pair of 7 right now! The blue is the male with the purple chest and the hen who's partner died last year is a split but otherwise Is normal coloured (fantastic mother). They've had 9 babies last year and I got 5 blues purple chests and the rest split normal looking like mother. She's always been obsesed with the blue chest as her last partner with was a spitting image of her current partner except the was green and had yellow on his chest. She definitely has a type lol

Mine is like the one at 1:00 but it has a LOT of small white spots, like freckles :)

How much each or pair

Why there are so many mutations in Gouldian finches? Are these birds bond to specific bird for life or not? Fascinating colors.

Especially blues as when they were first produced they did it in massive numbers and inbred them so now PLEASE make sure u OUTCROSS. I always keep ONE gender of the bird expressing the colour. If U don't do this then the male and female splits will pair up with each other as that's more attractive to them (the natural colours) then with their babies good luck as some will be splits, some Might be blue and some are just normal greens. Then an issue comes as the normal greens will slowly but surely remove the blue. A Gouldian finch will always pick a normal coloured mate over a mutation as the mutation shows the bird and isn't as strong. Birds want the strongest mate.

Before U even consider mutations DO A LOT OF RESEARCH! WORMING MITE AND LICE SPRAY SCALY MITE TREATMENT HUGE VARIED DIET AIR SAC MITE TREATMENT SUPPLEMENTS MUST BE ADDED TO WATER. DONT DO IT? they WILL die. These birds ARE stressful! But worth it in my opinion.

I own literally all 13 on this list. This is just a small snippet of the mutations now available, not featured such as silvers, sea green, Australian yellows, pastel blues and greens, lutinos, to name but a few. Anyone starting out with these beautiful birds please research genetics of the bird including the strengths and weaknesses especially if wishing to breed your birds, do the research and save yourself the heartache of losing baby birds through no fault of your own other than not knowing certain mutations when bred together will unfortunately create very weak birds genetically. @@shezwood1 not if done correctly no. If you breed blue to blue or silver to silver then yes they will be very weak. I have literally just got a silver out of the nest, dad is black head white breast green back split blue (his dad is silver) and mom is a yellow head, lilac breast yellow back split blue. Chick is super strong and big 👍

Video well done. There are 10 mutations not 13…the first 3 are what you find in Australian nature. These should not be considered mutations…

If U just want the most expensive for $ then U gonna end up with dead birds 😂. These are NOT a walk in a park and even keeping them ALIVE is expensive. It's not just seed and water and boom $. HUGGGGEEE VARIED DIET Cuttlefish Worming Mite and lice spray Scaley mite liquid Air sac mite treatment Supplements daily in water (or they will DIE as many are nutrient deficient) and MORE. Trust me, there's NO money in it. It goes BACK into the hobby. I do it as I LOVE thes beautiful Australian birds! And the mutations! And because I'm confident and knowledgeable to keep them thriving. Remember we all start somewher, just do it the right way.
