The fact that ships ARE designed to withstand such rough seas makes it LESS TERRIFYING. So this is the kind of confused and idiotic voice over you would expect from a high school project.

Some years back we used to have the F111's do the fly through with a climax of a near vertical climb during which they did a 'dump and burn' very spectacular.

Thank you for narrating each incident so beautifully... The incident #5 at 4:04 recalls a scary pesonal experience in 2007, being onboard of a Thai Charter flight; "One to Go", carrying Peace Keeping troops from Sri Lanka to Haiti. When landing for refueling at Santa Maria island in the Atlantic Ocean, the flight almost touched the runway and the first attempt failed due to heavy rains and wind in the middle of the night. I am Thankful to God for the blessed pilots who took right decision at the right moment. For me it was a moment of prayer as the leader of the contingent.

Props to the British Airways pilot. There’s a small window of opportunity when landing to pull back up and if you miss it there’s no telling what might happen. Pilots have to think so quickly in these moments. I respect them.

I live in Brisbane, the plane flying through the city was for our Riverfire festival and I'm sure 90% the people living here knew it was coming as it was all over the news a month prior. It was an absolutely beautiful display I will remember forever, not because it was dangerous but because of how graceful it passed by the city with something to contrast the background behind the aircraft. I can understand people having PTSD from 9/11 but this was no more dangerous than a plane flying past the control tower as it comes in to land, our domestic and international airports are also in the city!

It's definitely more dangerous. An airplane flying past a control tower is moving in a straight line at low speed and only a handful of people are in the tower and they are being paid to be there. An airplane low flying at high speed in a populated city with tall buildings is just reckless and stupid

Brisbane air show during the River Fire is a yearly event. Seeing a plane fly this low during this certain time of the year is no surprise to us locals. Also the plane is following the bends and curves of the Brisbane River.

@@federicoguidi2194 In 2001 they used a F-111C Aardvark. That is a fighter jet flying at over 600kmph. This jet also flew way above the city buildings and everyone knew it was coming because they have a count down T-10. I would have doubts that anyone was scared of this event even if it was just after 9/11. Maybe if there were tourists from USA that had no idea about the event, they might be a little startled, but seeing hundreds of thousands of people waiting at SouthBank is a dead giveaway away that something cool is about to happen. The aircraft in this particular video was not part of the 2001 event. Also the jet aircraft comes across at night time and it dumps its fuel, lighting up the night sky, so you can see it coming from afar and also notice how high above they fly.

This is my first time watching this channel, and I was amazed by these videos. That Military aircraft flying dangerously low around the skyscrapers was incredible footage! If you take a flight and the weather is beautiful, the weather can change at any time when flying the airplane! You never know what Mother Nature is going to do! Great work making these video clips, I'm a fan! XO

Yeah I agree. if you watch you will see right at the very end, the plane starts to go down really fast and he realizes it's going to be a nasty landing if he keeps going so he pulls up and out of it for a go around. He is literally nose down as he is about to touch and that's not good at all you wanna be flared upwards with your nose higher than the rear of the plane

The Brisbane Riverfire C17 flyby is a yearly (predominantly fireworks) event set on and over the river. Premium apartments overlooking those stretches of the river during this event are expensive although many ground-level public spaces are available. The Australian airforce has been contributing aircraft to the event for 20+ years.

Certainly not a dangerous action, Like where is the nearest fuel storage facility? People are completely unaware of the dangers they live with everyday. lol I do not know if the people here use gas for cooking and heating or better yet even drive to work everyday. Kudo's to the RAAF. May God go with them in all that they do. Do not be afraid of impressive low flying aircraft, crewed by the people who have chosen to offer their lives to the nation so you may sit and enjoy the show.

I was on a flight like that BA 787. We were trying to land in Lisbon. The plane was at a near right angle to the runway. The passengers could see as much runway as the pilots. The pilot did a last minute go around for which everyone cheered. We also cheered when the pilot was finally able to land. I was also on a flight out of Chicago in a severe thunderstorm that got hit by lightening. Our pilot thought it would be fun to turn the cockpit cameras on for the passengers so we could watch the storm. No one was thrilled and were too busy trying not to throw up. Many asked the flight attendants to have him turn it off.

It was pleasant to know the aftermath of the incidence especially the safety to humans. Videos are well explained and fully recorded giving a sence of satisfaction. Great

That C-17 flyby is almost every year, it is along the river, and it is not anywhere near to those buildings as you think. We also have a F-18 Super Hornet do the flyby as well. Many years ago we used to have the F-111 dump and burn, where the fuel dump would be ignited by the afterburners. It would fly the same path along the river. Look for videos of "F111 dump and burn".

That C-17 is not a USAF aircraft. Looks like it has Australian markings.

6:30 this clip reminded me of what happened to me not even 5 days ago, I work as a lifeguard at my local pool, and recently we’ve had lots of tornados and thunderstorms during the day. I was sitting inside with my coworkers and I saw lightning strike the pool. It was probably like 20-40 feet away from me. I am so glad I had one of my earbuds in because it was very loud. I truly see why we close the pools during storms now.

I can relate to a few airline incidents, it was a week before middle school started and summer break ended for me, my family decided we should go to Florida one last time before school, when we were coming back to Chicago, everything was going well on the plane, except a few minutes later, I noticed we were flying through an electrical storm. I was beyond lucky to make it out alive, I had to keep playing video games to stay calm.

If the bridge of the ship is "destroyed". There is an emergency steering gear system in the engine room, which can be used to alter course, increase decrease speed. There's even compass repeaters in there also.

I was actually working in an office in Brisbane when the plane went through the city, was absolutely amazing to see and the noise was enough to rattle the building, had to be there to experience it !! 😄

No matter the technology, materials, or determination you have, nature will always find a way to win.

The C17 footage seems more optical illusion than danger, but I admire the skill it has to take to fly that low and slow while banking that much. Seems like you'd be teetering on the edge of a stall all the time.

The compressed depth of field due to the large zoom lens being used makes the plane seem much closer to the buildings than it really is.

I live in Brisbane Australia and seeing the C-17 Aircraft fly through the city was absolutely surreal. Can't wait for the Riverfire festival this year. :)

@@alejandrahernandez5800 it’s on every September, & us Brisbanites’ love it! The RAAF aircraft display is the finale of two weeks of plays, concerts, rock bands, opera, you name it, it’s on! When we had the F111, it did a ‘dump & burn’, which in the evening sky was spectacular.

The RiverFire flyby was well planned and well executed. The people of Brisbane have seen great pilots fly through their city for this event for years and they all do it safely. This was a flight that I wish I could have witnessed first hand!

A grandfather of a friend was in the US Air Force training as a pilot from an air base in Texas during WWII. He said, student pilots used to a game among themselves to see how close they could get to the beach. They'd time it to see how close they get to the beach before the next large wave would come in crashing on the shore. They also buzzed nearby small towns where the highest object was the church steeple. They'd try to fly below the tip of the steeple. There would be serious consequences if they were caught doing this. And town residents weren't pleased with their houses being rattled from loud aircraft engines only about 100 feet overhead.

I was on a Spanish C121 flying into Bagram Air base in '03 that used the exact same maneuvers approaching touchdown. They were evasive maneuvers used to throw off possible groundfire. It's scary- you can't do a damn thing but hope for the best. That film brought back memories.

Huge respect to the ground guide in Venezuela who ran forward of the truck with hardly any room to spare to warn those downhill!

I agree about the ground guide's quick moves and warning. The driver in the rear truck does not get my respect though. That driver bailed his truck when it was most needed to keep braking so as to reduce the speed of the guaranteed wreck ahead. Notice how quick he was to get back into his truck afterwards to maybe pretend he did not bail.

brisbane riverfire happens every year and we also have tiger attack helicopters and fighter jets fly through as well and when you see from where they are flying theres a decent amount of distance between buildings its really awesome to watch

I have to say that this video and the narrator did a stellar job putting this together for us to witness, so thank you for that. And I have to say at approximately 2:30 in, it flooded the most horrific 911 memories through my soul. As an East Coast resident, thousands of us still suffer today and how all those standing strong for rescues, recovery and the obviously toxic clean up process, and then the lack of urgent care they needed and did not get, my heart still bleeds for them all and will forever. I want our soldiers home not heading out.✌️😔💔

As an East Coast resident (living 40 miles from WTC), I can't say I care about the event anymore. Seeing the footage did bring a "9/11" thought into mind, but that's merely because buildings + low flying plane, not because of any emotional response. Sure people who lost ones they knew in it or were around ground zero will no doubt never forget it.. but it's been 20 years now, and I'm sure many people, especially the younger ones at the time (I myself was watching it unfold live in high school), don't think about it anymore. ..That or I just lost all my empathy since then. Regardless, a stunt like the one shown in the video is stupid, as even a flawless pilot can't make sure the equipment doesn't malfunction mid flight.

0:40 "The Bridge" of a ship is not the literal bridge you see being destroyed in this video. It is room/structure that the ship is captained from. If the wave really did "destroy the bridge", the Captain wouldn't be steering it to any port, he would be swimming for his life in the water.

One of the most unbelievable moments I have ever seen was at the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) in Oshkosh, WI. This happened about 15 years ago. The pilot took an old cargo plane up into the skies. Then he deliberately retracted his nose wheels; and then his left wing wheels. He returned to the airport runway; with only the right wing wheels and his tail wheels. As you can guess, he used almost the entire runway to land. His plane was truly level on landing. Until the speed of the aircraft ran out, near the end of the runway. It paused for about five seconds. Then the plane dropped on its left side. "Thump" is all I can say about the sound. The pilot walked as if he had done this all his life. [Which I can assume he did]

Reference to the plane footage, years before everyone had phones to video it, two RAF planes flew over my North West London neighbourhood, at night, one refuelling the other. Some people thought they'd seen UFOs. The pilots came from an airbase north of London, and were reprimanded for their dangerous manoeuvres.

Oh wow, close call with the guy and the ship (Tasman)🙀...the power of machinery! Great video❤️

I live near Brisbane been here my whole life, these jet planes are a tad scary but the whole point of river fire is to see the jets fly hella close to the city n do tricks. The people flying are highly trained professionals to fly close to the buildings. No hate just educating

I really like what you've done here with this video - you present the item, and then let the item proceed to play on its own merits - very powerful! The Brisbane Riverfire C17 flyby is awesome because it does *look* very close, but it is mostly following the path of the river, so the turn over the low buildings and the final turn and climb out are the main points, the rest is over the river.

When they train in a training area called "the Mach Loop". They fly a much more dangerous route down in a canyon right down the center way below the tops of the cliffs. I live in Brisbane & Riverfire is so well known here that no one is too concerned about a C-17 or any other military aircraft flying through the city.

The plane in Australia is indeed beautiful, and watching it literally “soar” through that city’s skyline was masterful. It took my breath away for just a second. I just hope that they did A LOT of advertising first to let everyone know that was going to happen and the city wasn’t “under attack”. 😂 But truly dangerously masterful!

No matter what you do, you'll never avoid the average fear in most people. As long as they got proper air traffic control clearance, I say, let the people freak out! It's entertaining... incidentally, there is a book called "Freedom From Fear", by Forrest Church. In it he defines the five kinds of fear and explains how only one is usually beneficial. When we learn the five fears and learn to identify them as well as understand the unhealthy mental state they cause us to live in, we can begin to free ourselves from unnecessary fear in our lives. Really powerful book! 🙂

The aircraft followed the Brisbane river and was a couple of hundred meters from the closest building

They use the skyscrapers in all major cities here in Aus for training as well. We had black hawks also training, with their crew hanging out the sides, my son (4 at the time, now 15) thought it was the best thing since sliced bread when they waved back at him. We live in regional Victoria, Aus :)

Back in '09 my colleague and I were flying to NYC for a tradeshow, supposed to land at LaGuardia. The plane got caught in a wind gust funnel and the same thing that happened at 5:41 happened to the flight. Luggage was flying out of the overhead compartments, people were screaming and praying in different languages. It was surreal. We'd had a few drinks during the flight. During the chaos, we sat calmly and I just put my fist up, smiled and said "If we die it's been fun homie." He laughed and gave me daps. The flight was diverted to land at JFK to go back to LaGuardia and everyone got off except for the two of us and one other guy. We sat up in first class where we drank free champagne with the flight attendants when we took back off from JFK. Good times.

Wow! that was a amazing bit of flying between skyscrapers, must have practiced it at least once before. 🤔

If you pause the video somewhere in the 6:24 second range it is remarkable. It looks like the lightning passes through the horizontal stabilizer, or the elevators from right to left and then continues to ground. I have measured electrical resistance through the entire aircraft and was surprised to see it has VERY little resistance from one end to the other. In the milli-Ohm range. I think it is allowed 50 milli-Ohm but was less than one milli-Ohm when actually tested. That's less than .001 Ohm. For instance, testing between a static wick and the grounding lug on the landing gear. The static wick is what is struck by lightning in this video. (They will need changing.) This is because at the factory they take great pains to electrically bond each piece of the structure to the one next to it. PLUS we test and maintain this bonding on a regular basis for exactly this reason. I read somewhere that it is estimated that each aircraft is struck by lightning like this once per year on average. And yes it DOES cause damage.....although usually minor damage. Burns up a few rivets or blows the tip off of a composite fairing.....that sort of thing.

I've been struck once good in a CL65. There was lots of St. Elmo's Fire. Our nose was glowing. I peered down the nose and saw mini static bolts a couple feet long dancing on the lightning strip! Just then we took a full bolt to the nose. It was at night and I was blinded. "Your controls", I shouted! Took a min or two to fully regain my sight. When we landed I walked around. There was a slight burn to the radome but no hole, which surprised me. We were missing about three or four static wicks! Blew them right off! All in all no biggy. We did years ago have a crew though who walked around after a strike and found no right winglet! Wouldn't that be a fun prize to have laying in your yard. 😂 I do my best to avoid convective activity, but sometimes those darn lines close in on you and you run short on options. I'd still take thunderstorms and contingency fuel any day over landing on contaminated runways... 😏

From what I've learned from the engineers, when more than a static wick is blown off it's usually because the electrical bonding between that component and the aircraft is poor. On a routine basis we test electrical bonding between static wicks on the rudder or elevators and the landing gear grounding lug. On one task the limit was a maximum of 50 mili-Ohms....that's .050 Ohms...... which ain't much......and it read less than .001 Ohm. Less than one milli-Ohm over more than a hundred feet of aircraft structure. From the tail to the landing gear there was almost perfect continuity. Which stands to reason because resistance in parallel is always less than resistance in series. But sometimes they install a new or repaired component and paint over the bonding surface, which should be bare metal to bare metal. If the bonding surface is painted over it could be damaged by a lightning strike.

The flight in Brisbane a little sensationalized. The River Fire festival has been going on for 30+ years with a very similar flying stunt of either a large military plane or fighter jets. All well before September 11. Each year it goes off without issue and they do it multiple days in a row. Any resident in Brisbane was not shocked or surprised.

yeah growing up in SE QLD and seeing the F-111's ect fly between buildings in Brisbane for the River fire and on the Gold Coast for the indy every year you dont think anything of it. but thinking about it....little risky

I am from India and like many, watched many utube videos. But this compilation is explicitly awesome with complete details. On Feb 24, 2022, I was on a flight from BNA (Nashville) to MIA (Miami) and the plane was struck by lightning right under my window shortly after takeoff. There was enough damage that we were sent back to BNA and put on other flights. I promise you, when you’re on that plane that’s hit, it’s very frightening

Yeah, it's scary for sure! You'd be surprised how well they take lightning strikes though. There's often some minor damage, but they are very cleverly designed to pass the voltage through the airframe and disperse it through trailing edge static wicks. Glad you were ok and the plane landed safely!

In 1988 myself and my family mom dad my brother, were on an Air tours plane traveling to Florida. It was our first holiday there after we used to go to Spain and so wanted to check USA out. We had noticed that the staff on the plane were rushing up and down the aisle and panicking. We then over heard 2 of them talking and said that the under carriage of the plane wasnt coming down for us to land. It took a good hour or more to circle back around on the flight path and then luckily it then came down .. how we didn't find out but just glad we were ok to land. We were told that the staff onboard the plane should not of been discussing the problems the pilot was having near the passengers. Rightly so but we were all scared what was going to happen. Our first time traveling to Florida USA and it could of been fatal. Thank goodness I'm here today to speak about it. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy lol.

My office is in the Westpac building, on the 23rd floor facing the river, at 3.24. The plane's noise is incredible when the plane literally flies past my office window. It looks and feels as if the plane is at my eye-level. I have taken some short videos, but they are not as good as this footage, as my view is restricted.

Just a bit of info on the B787 bounce from an airline pilot's perspective. It did look like a pretty challenging day. Of course I know next to no details about this flight, but after watching it, here's what I think happened : Due to the weather, they were likely fighting gusts as well as trying to maintain airspeed. It's important to be at the proper speed upon landing, but when you're expecting "negative performance" windshear (suddenly loosing critical airspeed) it's common to come in with a few extra knots. I do it all the time. It adds a safety buffer on airspeed, but also has to be corrected before the landing flare to avoid floating and eating up precious runway. Landing performance (fancy pilot math) is based on pretty strict parameters. It looks like they were a touch high and likely fast, which is better than low or slow! Given the conditions it was reasonable, I guess. It appears they pitched down to attempt the landing within the landing zone (a calculated distance you must touch down to ensure a safe stop). After pitching down they did avoid a nose wheel first landing which is good, but then they bounced. Of course they're still a bit fast and back in the air, which isn't great, but here's where it really gets fun! When you land an airliner, there are usually parameters which have to be met in order for the ground lift dumping spoilers to deploy. These are the big surfaces that lift straight up when you land to "kill" the lift, essentially making your wing quit flying, the aircraft "stick" to the ground, and allow you to maximize braking. The standard parameters are something close to - wheel spin up, engines at idle for more than 3 seconds, within 5 feet of the ground measured by your radar altimeter and weight on wheels sensors (usually you need two or three but not all). So at the moment they bounced, this is a perfectly executed go around - they did good! Because after the bounce, you are at idle, wheels are spinning, and when you get to 5 feet and the ground lift dumping spoilers deploy,,, can you guess what happens? You drop violently sending the main landing gear struts right up through the wings and likely skid to an uncontrolled stop and hope your passengers are OK because your airplane and your career ain't!!! Now, that was technical and long winded. The real question is,,, why oh why are they even in a position where this happens? We all underestimate the weather now and then and do what pilots get paid for to keep you safe. If this storm was known to be a real whopper though, dispatch shouldn't have sent them and they should have questioned flying in to risky weather like this. Again, it happens, and more often than most people realize, so I'm not pointing fingers at the pilots. I’m not familiar with any of that (not a pilot) but I agree that the way the wind can toss a plane around like a piece of tissue, the “on point” touch takeoff, I would think, probably prevented the plane from the nose digging in to the runway and then cartwheeling (from the wind still trying to lift it) from the suddenness of it as oppose to running out of runway to stop I think

Well, the biggest issue is not having your ground lift dumping spoilers deploy when you're not on the ground. That breaks the plane. Bad. The runway length may not seem like a big deal, but when you're landing in, LaGuardia for example on snow and ice, it can easily become an issue if you land too long. Braking action upon landing is based on the coefficient of friction, or what we call Mu values. A specialized truck drives down the runway and a system checks the actual friction value of the surface. This number is then requested by the pilots who "plug it in" to our computer to calculate our landing data, including how much runway we will need to stop, which may or may not be enough. I have diverted several times to a different airport due to runway conditions below the requirement to safely land. Happens every Winter all over. As far as "cartwheeling down the runway" - that's pretty far fetched. That really only happens if you strike a wing hard enough to loose it, causing asymmetrical rolling of the aircraft. Pretty rare. The only real threat in this video is that if they continued a landing attempt, they would likely land extremely hard and farther down the runway than is legally allowed based on landing data math.

@@thecampbells3908 fascinating. I did know that there is a lot of factors going into takeoffs and landing, just not the particulars. Love learning about stuff like that. After reviewing what a said about cartwheeling, I can see how that can be rare but my line of thinking is since the winds are unpredictable even in small areas (example, mini wind tunnels around high rises at ground level in the city) that if that bounce was level or even on all the tires… okay, I over think stuff (even worse case scenarios) at times. It's ok. I like hear what non-pilots imagine could happen too! As far as wind goes, the only serious threat is a negative performance windshear. Even if we roll out of control before getting to the ground, we can recover and go around pretty easily. 🙂

No such thing as a bad landing if you get off the plane in one piece as an old saying goes... As for spoilers and the like, I recall a design decision at one point was whether the world's biggest commercial plane, the Airbus A380, should have just brakes to slow the plane upon landing or also employ in addition to brakes, traditional spoilers and the like. They decided on the latter, but the fact they were considering just the former shows how powerful brakes are.

i live in brisbane, australia (pronounced bris-bin/bris-ben by the way), and can say those aircraft flying through the city are absolutely terrifying but a very normal occurrence here, anyone whos lived here for more than a couple years get used to it thanks to riverfire - which is by the way FAR cooler with jets flying in patterns around brisbane.

I use to live in Brisbane in the 90s, back then they used f111 at the sky fire doing a fuel dump out the back. It was the best day of the year.

From Brisbane. The C-17 is a new edition to the river fire festival (essentially Brisbane Day) Previously they flew F-111s where they did dump-and-burns but now they replaced these with F-18s which can't do it. So they added the big boy. What you don't see in the video is the jets follow the path of the river so it's not some random weave in-between buildings, it's a very clear and unobstructed path.
