4:36 She isn't kidding about the zone 4 thing.. This area of the Midwest definitely gets pretty cold in the winter. Working at a local nursery, they treat everything here like its zone 4 so that everything is hardy even in the occasionally severe cold days. Works very well in my experience. I'd say this microclimate reaches down past Dubuque and stretches over to Galena at least.

For all of us over here in the UK: 1) Prepare to battle a never ending horde of slugs eating our seedlings. 2) Refuse to surrender in the face of certain defeat, deploying beer traps, and hunting hiding places by day, torches and big tweezers by nights. 3) Rejoice in the demise of the slug army and watch everything flourish!

I tried beer traps here in the US and they didn't work. What finally worked was going out with soap spray after a rain, when all the slugs would come out. I never saw a slug infestation again. Also, firefly nymphs are natural predators of slugs. The firefly nymphs look very different from the adults, so it helps to learn to recognize them.

Google lens has been my best friend in the garden for the last couple years. Aside from fresh seedlings its helped me find so many plants I want and identified so many things, biggest win was a pecan tree that shot out cause my parents cut the tree without digging the trunk and roots out. It snapped off, so I took a pic and then dug further after it said it to find a tree trunk 😂 they were like oh yeh I totally forgot we had a pecan tree there haha

One thing people might forget is that animals, mostly pet dogs, really love the smell of organic fertilizers and may decide to help you repot your plants by ripping them out to eat the fertilizer. So if you have dogs, fence in your plants with some wire fencing for a while until the smell fades enough, usually a week or 2.

The same January cold snap that completely wiped out the grape harvest here in the Okanagan BC ( aka Napa North ) also decimated the tree fruit industry. I am experimenting with a cherokee purple tomato seedling I started this year. I put it in directly to the ground which is heavy clay and about 3 inches of home made compost and raised bed organic soil from last year. And it's looking super healthy! I water it about once a week or so. I'm in zone 8b, Texas. I have it in an area where they get morning and late afternoon sun. I'll let you know how that goes.

I would love to see guides for what to plant when to have veg and fruit production (almost) all year round in different hardiness zones. I’m a relatively inexperienced gardener in zone 7a and would love to know what needs to be planted when so there is production most of the year. Thank you for your fantastic videos!!

Great stuff! My garden task is mulching, planting some basils and marigolds, and preparing for the possibility of powdering mildew. I am going to try the baking soda and water solution to see if that works. Can you also get a NYC grower as part of the Epic Squad like YT channel Mari's Garden and Kitchen?

Reaching out for help!!! I live in a senior mobile home community the garden spaces aren't monitored and there in no recourse if there is a problem, the owners will shut down all gardeners usage of the property. My problem is 1 of the gardeners has sprayed my garden with weed killer, I hosed with water until the beds drained hoping to wash out the spray. I have replanted and now they have been sprayed again 2 times in 1 week. My question is, will I have to replace all the soil or just keeping flushing the soil with water, so when I am able to plant without getting sprayed again, my plants won't die from residual in the soil. I am desperate, there isn't time to start from seeds, I am in Orange County CA zone 10b. I watch you all the time, learn something all the time and can't get enough of gardening, Eric and Jacque and the guests are all amazing. TY

Sounds like you have a brick wall with the weed spray purposely sprayed on your attempts. I don't have any soul so I use the hydroponic Tower Garden or Green Stalk. They are both vertical planters and can produce many veggies or flowersI I have them on my patio in the shade and no opportunity for the errant sprayer as you can put a sign that says "You are being watched"

@@bencouragedalways LOL!!! I was going to put a sign with Google Eyes on it and say "SMILE" & leave it at that, as anything else I might get reported to management or bad things spread about me & my husband. Sad thing is this was a row of very large Pots, to donate to the seniors in our mobile home park. I had 2 Green Stalks when we moved here and we donated to a sweet couple that were struggling & with children. Mostly we get shade here in our yard and car port. We are tracking the sun in our gravel little bit of a yard to see if we can put the pots there and when the Fall/Winter comes as the sun is moving, move the with a dolly to where the sun will go. Also tempted to purchase another Green Stalk, I loved them!! Thank you for answering my plea for help! We are asking the Lord to help with the problem and person/s. We are of good courage always! Blessings❤
