    Good to hear you're not throwing it away. Running and starting like that after 1 million kilometers is pretty impressive, at least to me. If you were planning on throwing it out, I'd like to have it in my living room and start it every once in a while for that nice diesel exhaust smell, and to hear the lovely sound of these engines running.

    At 19:28, the most important part of your video. I bought a take out engine that came out of a FL70 Freightliner. The PPump was completely different than what Dodge used. It was a very $$$ lesson. I love your videos. You are a great teacher/instructor's. I have a rebuilt P7100 pump too. 😀

    I'm not a diesel guy, so this was interesting to me. Sometimes, the camera moved too much and I couldn't follow things, and, yes, the image was too dark as well at times to see what you were talking about. But, I got a little bit of an idea how these Cummins engines are put together and operate, and being a gear head, that was interesting to me. Thanks..

    I am from Germany and my Dad owned a 4BT Case 5120 and after that a 6BT MX120.. Turned up the Pump on the 6BT and it made about 130HP on the PTO dyno. Sounds great, huge Torque, good power, super reliable and crazy simple. Sold both Tractors at about 9000 working hours with nothing else then Service done to the engines

    16:50 ya you spun that pump off camera because it's a MFer. (1996 12v 6spd owner. I make the "power" lol 606 1402) been there done that. My rack got stuck 6 years ago and had to go through this. Luckily I WAS (currently a pilot) a diesel mechanic and knew people at industrial injection I got a dragonfly for 800 bucks. I would've never played with my pump for that reason but these videos you have are spot on. Love your content. I was never in the shops "pump room" I was in the "injector room" and "the shop". Personally I drive a 12v because obvious reasons power alone. But I love the simplicity of the 24v when it comes to timing. I wish the 12v had the key on the pump shaft STOCK. It would've made my life easier back under the hood while I was earning a living. But as you said it was a widely used engine but they made our automotive version so different they could've done that too. If we go on that thought process we should've had the marine pistons too. Just saying. Like I said. Love the content. I'm subscribed! Howdy from the heart of Texas!

    lazowelding they are far from worthless!!!!!!! They just can’t be made to make huge power like the truck motors the pump doesn’t push the same amount of fuel. You can run it as is just fine and even turn it up a bit.... if you want 500+ hp just slap a p7100 off a dodge pickup on it and go to town.

    Fuel plate, timing, increases supply pressure - nothing did squat until I swapped gov springs. I've got a video of it on the dyno to prove it. Never did get a final HP since it broke my dyno after changing the gov springs. Thanks for the video and good explanation of how to do it!

    I was forced to leave my 98 12v out in the ND patch when I stroked out there, along with 20 years of tools. My fuel plate was the stock profile, but trimmed back a 1/4 inch. She wasn't an aggressive smoker, and spooled up well with the scaler ring taken out of the whistle, and the star wheel turned up. Still got the same mileage 17 loaded or empty. It had 411 ratio. Great Video gear head, keep 'em cummins. :P

    I think I'm gonna acquire a whole 2nd gen with a P pump 12v for $2k next year. It's got 400k km on it. Can't wait to toss that into a D150 lol. Compound turbos, mild injectors, just aim for a really smooth & reliable 500hp.

    Good video thanks, but I disagree on the blow by, it wasn't bad at all, when the cap dances its still good, it had several thousand miles left on it, otherwise it wouldn't have started that well. Just saying...12 valves got to love em

    "oil doesn't look that black" of course! It was leaking out before it could pick up any carbon)) was it really too much blow by for a Cummins?

  • @fastinradfordable
    @fastinradfordable4 жыл бұрын

    That passes the blow by test in my book. You loosen the oil cap, start engine. If the cap flutters that’s fine. If the cap gets knocked off the engine then it has blow by problems. A good catch can and routing the blow by to the intake will help a lot. And a FYI for all you metric guys.... 1 million kilometers is only 2/3 of a million miles.

    I say that that blowby is expected for a high mileage. I’d build it any day of the week. Sounds quite cherry. Good ol 12valve

    about The timing gear install. it's not the oil, it is the debris on the taper. clean gear and shaft with lint-free cloth, install pump, pull gear forward, loose on shaft, reclean feel free to use 15w40 to flush it out if you would like. but a spray of WD-40 is ez. the lint from the Q-tip or cotton towel is why the gear came loose. flush with 15w40, PB,wd-40,brake parts just clean it before you put the nut on. good luck

    You should have put a rack travel plug in it too (as long as it's not a 215 (96-98 manual engines.)) Also you should modify your AFC & then use it's position & the spring you put into it to tune your engine. (Only need a # 0 or #100 plate in it then as a stop to not be able to over travel the rack (which will defuel it) & get a hung rack (which could lead to a run away!))
