In regards to sound, a reduction of 4dB is actually quite significant. Sound is not linear, you will perceive the volume to be around half if decreased by 3dB and doubled if increased by 3dB.

I actually purchased the same server cabinet (but the one half as tall) to put my 15” MacBook Pro in to quiet the fans when I am using giving/recording webinars. It’s under my desk

You needed to rock that piece of metal back and forth by also inserting the screwdriver at top and push it in slightly then the bottom then the top etc until it breaks the small bit of metal holding it in. You won't cause any damage then. Trying to pull it out by only pulling/pushing on the bottom is the wrong way and why it was damaged.

I can tell you that just looking at that thin metal enclosure will not stop much noise. What you should do is line the interior with mass loaded vinyl on each panel and glue on top of that some one inch thick fire proof sound dampening foam board. Then use quiet fans and power supplies and make sure that the case is properly vented or your system will overheat and die.

2:47 it’s a big deal when want to sale it. I’ll give 29.00 since you bent it. Wonder if apple server can fit in there. Why try sound foam panels

Apple say that their Mac Pro server requires a minimum of 60cm depth so it should fit... I'd probably opt for a deeper one to be safe though - to avoid having to mod if the handles rattle with the door maybe.

Dude, you're on something hard. First of all you installed a rack closet on ceramic tiles that cannot be grounded, a big no. Second you made a heat trap inside with foam. Then to finish you have a switch that is not passively but actively cooled and want to minimize the sound? Which of these three combined make this installation professional? If you wanted sound isolation, you isolate the wall around the rack not the rack. Second you create a separate double glass door and glass side going to the ceiling from two sides of the rack then close the door.

@@headsoftech I hope they will help. Passively cooled switch is silent. Grounding the rack cabinet is the most important, as well as air exhaust if you have cold air going in, hot air must be pumped out. Many people and companies set this with air-conditioning, which does not exhaust hot air. Stay safe!

A little harsh? Passive cooked switch selection is a bit limited. If it were fanless, he wouldn't have needed the cabinet. I'd mint on wall, line with MLV and call it good

My suggestion is get a smaller one if you don't need the space, because 12RU 60cm deep is MASSIVE. If I were to buy another one I'd go 6RU and maybe 30cm deep.

lmao. as you're saying how much you're worried about taking a knife to that little rubber grommet, you're prying the metal tab and bending the crap out of the rear panel! what did you think would happen if you did that with paper thin sheet metal. Use your noggin lol. to fix the mess you made, you can use a pair of small knipex pliers wrench with parallel jaws to straighten out the sheet metal if you're OCD about it.
