Goodness I'm speechless at winning the piece of your artwork! Congratulations Margaret on winning Vanessa’s lovely artwork! I was so surprised that I had correctly guessed about the butterfly as well! 🦋😊

It was Napoleon the the third, the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte who was exiled to Leamington after his disastrous war with Prussia in 1870 in which Prussia incorporated Alsace Lorraine into its empire. Prussia also renamed it empire Germany in the Palace of Versailles in 1871. It led to the Paris Commune in the same year, where the people of Paris refused to submit to their new conquerors. Napoleon 3rd was responsible for the way we know Paris today, the medieval parts were torn down and with his architect Haussmann, new boulevards and palaces were put up to give elegance to the city. 😎

Hello Vanessa - greetings from a very cold (minus 8 this morning) and snowy (28cms deep in the garden) Poland This is one of the very best narrowboat videos I've seen for a long time. Wonderful camera work, beautiful commentary and magical wildlife makes this video very special. A beautiful poem and sketch this week too. What a king gentleman to take the time to prepare the bird food himself and feed the birds in his local park, every day. Just proves that there are some kind and thoughtful people about. Absolutely beautiful footage and the music you play is so perfect. I always think that winter is a tough time for live-aboards and the wild life too but you seem to have got it sorted with your aqua roller and trolley. The walk about in Leamington Spa was lovely, as usual I learned something interesting during the video. What a beautiful story about the old man feeding the birds made me think of my crows on the golf course I finally fond a bunch of them just before the snow came so I gave them my crackers that I had been saving. Morning Vanessa: You've come up with some great ideas in how to cope when your narrowboat is frozen. I loved how the geese were sleeping atop the frozen canal while another bird took advantage to access the wall at waterline in the locks for a tasty treat. Your white moth for the other side of Alice Grace sounds like it will go well with the daisy on the other side. Enjoyed the man who fed the birds for 15 years and your painting of his park bench with his bird friends perched atop it. Happy journeys! Jenny USA

Thank you for sharing your latest video. I'm amazed at how you cope with this cold weather. Leamington Spa looks a lovely place. The Pink Flamingo shop looks lovely. I was touched by the footage of the man who feeds the birds and it reminded me of when my mum used to supervise me in the kitchen mixing seeds and nuts then fat, leaving it to set and the joy I felt when we hung the winter cakes out for the birds. Found myself watching this for a 2nd time and so well worth it. Your robin is the prettiest little critter Vanessa...I think you answered several of my questions I asked you tonight and the loo etc. You cram so much into your videos I totally forget what I have watched before. Those 1700's cottages are really quaint. You have certainly mastered your sketching craft skills with this stunning portrait of wildlife birds perched upon a park bench.frozen over canal .do you know how thick is the ice formation surrounding your narrowboat hull.would it be possible to break the ice in anyway .also do you and mr m .feed the wildlife birds in the depths of winter.stay safe

Hi Anthony, thank you for another lovely comment.🤗 It is so kind of you to take the time to make such a kind review of the vlog. The ice is about an inch and a half thick and the boat could probably break it in places if we were to move, but it would damage the blacking and could cause damage to other moored boats especially those that are made from fibre glass. Seeing your Robin we have one a lot feeding of bird feeder in our garden good to see,but it came in our back door and i found it in bath room it had left calling cards in most bed rooms not so nice but did get it out to the wilds free at last May i also say our local park and nature reserve has been notified as a site of special scientific interest under the wildlife & countryside act 1981. With mind blowing affects to all of our local people that use it.

The Napoleon that came to Leamington was the nephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, but I don't think that I said that clearly. Excellent video as usual, I would have loved to have kept a journal like yours but can't draw. I did keep sort of a logbook of places I would go but never kept it up. Always look forward to your videos.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment. I couldn't draw at all when I first started my journal so I followed John Muir Laws on how to sketch what you see. After practising for a long time, I eventually developed my own style of drawing. Don't be put off trying as it is such a wonderful thing to do and I think everyone should have a nature journal. Finding time it the trickiest thing, like you say, and then sticking to it, but if you can, build it in once a week, eventually, the pattern might stick. I hope you give it a go again. I’m watching this for the third time in less than 24 hours, it’s a beautiful vlog I’ve so enjoyed our canal hires when we’ve been over for holidays and I’d love, love, love to do a winter on the canal, we thrive in the winter but we’re in Australia so right now it’s stinking hot, hate it, we should have never left the snow area here in Oz. Just amazing vlog, thanks so much. 💕

We soon purchased Aqua rolls and a wastemaster when caravanning, we did a lot of country music festivals, and touring holidays, unfortunately my husband passed away 91/2 yrs ago, but I have lots of memories, including thawing things out on winter trips, 🥶hope you have a Merry Christmas xxx

Well what a difference it makes watching u on a large tv, it was like l was with u all the way this week lol😂. What a completey different view of the canal when its frozen with the wildlife carrying on searching for food. How lucky u were many months ago when the robin came to u, not so much luck for the gentleman on the bench. Thanks Vanessa for a great insight of what u do in the harsh weather. Well now, it is lovely to know that I have made it to the big screen! It really is so very different having ice around the boat and not being able to cruise. We were lucky to be moored within walking distance of the service points as it took me by surprise. It has only frozen like that after Christmas for us before. I can't get water and i haven't had a shower for the past week. Just strip washing. The neighbours don't like it and said i should do it inside. Ha ha ha I absolutely love it Mrs mindful. When you put the red coat on Zephyr, I thought it was a harness for pulling the cart :-) Too heavy, maybe. It's a wonder how many colors shine through or around the snow. Lovely video.
