#125

This video presents the performance and feature enhancements included in the "B" version of the Tektronix MDO4000B series Mixed Domain Oscilloscope. For an introduction to the MDO, please see this video:
• #20: Quick 5 minute Te...
The B version includes performance enhancements on the Spectrum Analyzer, as well as a live-link to a comprehensive vector signal analysis software package called SignalVu-PC. This is the same analysis that is native to the Tektronix RSA Realtime Spectrum/Signal Analyzers. With this live link to SignalVu-PC, the MDO becomes a 1GHz wide vector signal analyzer. This includes enough analysis bandwidth to analyze the new 802.11ac WiFi/WLAN signals which utilize up to 160MHz channels. An example of basic vector signal analysis is shown, as well as an 802.11ac signal example.

    Having been a life long fan of Tektronix instruments going back to the 545 scope, it it really awesome what they have developed over the years. It was never affordable for the average hobbyist, but thanks to the longevity of well built equipment, I am proud to own several still amazing Tek products. It's good to see where the state of the art is, even when it's beyond my reach.

    A very impressive bit of kit as Dave Jones would say. Obviously the MDO4000 Series is a piece of test equipment designed for the Engineering Lab which possesses capabilities far beyond the needs of any hobbyist. Still the video was fun to watch. I wish Tek the best selling it.

    ***** Dave did a review of the first variant of the MDO4000. He didn't go into the depth that Alan has in this video. I'm sure the unit Dave had was a short term loaner so he didn't have much in the way of time. Nor do I think Dave has the depth of background in RF and Oscilloscope signal work that Alan possesses. Thus Alan was able to put the MDO4000B's best foot forward and demonstrate to the viewer what the machine is capable of doing. One thing Dave did point out is the optional interface modules that are quite pricey ! IIRC there are 5 modules available each costing 10 Grand ! So this unit could easily run the user 50 Grand all decked out. Again this unit is for a Professional Engineering Lab doing very demanding work. The type of work one finds at a DOD vendor. They are the ones that can drop 50 Grand easily. If its needed they will spend it.

    That is amazing. Could the new 3 series MDO oscilloscopes also do that analysis on the PC software? Or only the new 4 series MSO?

    No. This is unique to the MDO4000. Same can be done with a 5 or 6 Series, but the scope BW must exceed to RF signal frequency.

    Hi Alan what is the differences between MDO4104B & MDO4104C Thanks

  • @w2aew

    @w2aew

    7 жыл бұрын

    The main difference is that the MDO4104C adds an optional single-channel arbitrary function generator and DVM measurements on the analog scope channels. The "C" model is fully upgradeable - all additional features (digital channels, wideband spectrum analyzer, DVM, AFG, etc. are all user installable options.

    The top of the line MDO is just under $30K, but there are MDOs that start at about $12K. Yes, still outside the budget of hobbyists though.
