125 GALLON REEF TANK BUILD *DIY STAND, CANOPY, & SUMP*

Ойын-сауық

A true DIY masterpiece! I bought a 125 gallon tank from my local fish store and set it up as a reef tank! i built the stand and canopy... plus did all the plumbing myself. It was a very long process but i love the way it turned out. ASK any questions in the comment below!

Great to see another in the hobby. Leave your lights completely off for the next few weeks and add some bacteria (microbacter7 or other) to quick cycle your tank. I have the 220g version of the same tank and I love your hood. I would make one but I have my lights suspended from the ceiling.

I know its been a while, but I have those gas strut assist things on my tonneau cover. When one failed, it leaked oil all in the bed of my truck. Not sure if I'd want them over my marine aquarium. Great looking build though, you did an awesome job.

Everything looks amazing. I would caution the use of gas shocks. I had gas shock on my toolbox and they failed after several years. When they failed, they leaked a lot of oil into the top of my box. Just so you are aware. If your shocks have oil in them. They could fail and the oil would go right into your tank. Possibly crashing it.

@@BottomlandOutdoors Good job on the hood. Very intuitive touch on the mesh on the back(wish I would've thought of that, mandarin goby jumped out and found the little guy 6 months later just before I moved out of my apt into my first house) I had a similar setup on a 45 gal 20 yrs ago. My hinges were on the back side about 9 inches from the rim. I used piano hinges and some plastic paneling to shield from salt spray and about 2 yrs later, salt spray from who the hell knows where, corroded the electroplating and rusted the hinges. Also I used oak, birch, and cedar...sadly the wood eventually warped. Next time I'm thinking of using deck composite and plastic marine hinges. beckson.com/hga.html

If you have a par meter or can rent one, you can adjust those lights to where you know what the par level is and can place certain coral according to the par. The spectrum on these will work fine if you lean mostly to the blue. Most people will get 2-3 years but for 1/4 or 1/5th the cost, you have to think the ecotech have to last you 8-12 years. Technology won't last that long.
