124 Spider Automatics with Manual Mode, Paddles Shifters, and sport Modes Explained.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We use Saxy, our automatic 124 Abarth, to explain how manual mode and paddle shifters work on an automatic, as well as take a quick look at Sport Mode.
NOTE: When using paddles to turn off Manual mode it does not beep. NO idea why I said that...lol

Awesome video as usual. Great real use facts and straight to the point. I'm a new spider owner as my first fun car and this vid had the answers to everything I was afraid to ask lol. Love the passion for the car!

Thank you! Never be afraid to ask in groups like the "Fiat 124 Spider 2.0 Fan Club 2017+" on Facebook. You may get 1 or 2 "Read your manual"s, but overall, most people are friendly and supportive. Many of them probably remember when they had the same questions.

Criticizes another drivers blinker usage while driving holding a camera and zooming and shifting all at the same time lol. Appreciate the video. Might try out the manual shifting tomorrow. I open up the sport mode on higher speed roads without traffic. It does sound awesome when it's on!

So glad I bought the manual. The auto just has no soul.

Some people don't know how to drive manuals. Other people can't due to medical issues. Our buying Saxy was more a combination of timing, availability, and incredible price. The automatic 124 with paddles does indeed have a soul.

21:02 Thanks for that tip! I’ve been pushing the floor shifter into manual then straight back into auto to perform this task. 🤦‍♂️

if you add paddle shifter extenders it takes them to the next level. Not only look great but much easier to use, the stock paddles are way too small.

Don't know if my wife would want those and it's her car :) But, I agree, some red extenders would look good on Saxy.

Love the channel! New to the 124 spider however, not new to Italian cars. I have a quick question. Right around 18-20mph (usually in second gear) I notice a little hesitation in rpm almost like a lag. I noticed yours does the same. Is this normal?

@@zacharygonzales8012 Once you get out of first gear, you really shouldn't be back down to 2K if you are wanting brisk acceleration. I will have to try it and see.

You might be having turbo lag.... more pronounced at lower RPM as the natural torque is low there.

Sorry if I’m misunderstanding. So you downshift to go faster?

  • @DropTopTees

    @DropTopTees

If you are cruising and want better acceleration for a pass or whatever, yes, you downshift, then you floor it. If you notice when you are driving an automatic, it will do the same thing. If you are cruising in an automatic and slam the accelerator down, the car will downshift 1 or 2 gears. This is because it is seeking the optimum torque band to provide the requested acceleration. At highway cruising speeds, you are frequently not in that band (unless you are cruising very fast), so downshifting will improve your rate of acceleration.

Incredibly stupid question. Is letting the car downshift for you bad for the transmission?

  • @DropTopTees

Not at all. In automatic mode, the transmission always downshifts for you.
