@carlo negri I'm not even Jewish, I just have compassion for other people and respect their religions. *cough cough. And to add to that, I would have no issue being Jewish or any other religion for that matter because they are all beautiful. I think the Ashkenazi Jewish custom is to put them on standing. The Sephardi custom is to put the hand tefillin sitting and the head tefillin standing . The reason for this is Kabbalistic - the hand tefillin are related to the blessings of Kiryat Shema ( e.g Yotser Or/ Ahavat Olam ) which are said sitting .The Head tefilin are related to the Amidah prayer which is said standing. So when Sephardim put on Tefillin they sit and then stand . Kol hakavod you've put them on every day !

Heres a question about religious rituals and I’m generally curious Why is male circumcision fine but female barbaric I agree FGM is worse but just because ones worse it shouldn’t make the other a non issue I know we let it slide because religious tolerance but these people do this to children that have no choice say or anything tbh it disgusts me

fgm is not "barbaric" necessarily. It is the same as male circumcision mostly. If it were so barbaric many countries wouldn't do it regularly. Every country has their own practices. Westerners don't have the right to tell others what to do with their colonial mindset.

In the US it’s commonplace due to health reasons. Foreskin isn’t necessary, it’s harbours all sorts of germs and heightens risk of catching STI’s, read a book.

The scholar in this field is Brian Earp: he points out the dangerous tendency for those entrenched in this barbarism to wish to decriminalise actual fgm in whatever forms they choose to consider "lesser" in their blind pursuit of their own tradition of infant mutilation. There are some excellent talks by Dr.Earp on youtube on this thorny topic.

I'm not too religious, but is Ethan putting on his tiffilian just because he's getting Bar Mitzvahed, or because he means it? Then after his Bar Mitzvah, forget about the tiffilian? And there doesn't seem to be many people in shul. When I was Bar Mitzvahed many moons ago, the entire congregation was there...whether they knew I was being Bar Mitzvahed or not. The Family doesn't seen too religious. Like I said, I'm not too religious, but there's a meaning to being Bar Mitzvahed
