About a year ago. A student at my school did the same challenge during lunchtime. He went unconscious while standing up, hit his head on one of the benches, and started to have a seizure. The ambulance was called. Thankfully he is alive. I give my prayers to the family

They “believe” he was doing the blackout challenge. Perhaps he intended to take his life. Sounds like they don’t know exactly why he did that. The blackout challenge doesn’t usually involves shoe laces or ropes etc. Nevertheless these challenges aren’t new. Existed when I was a teen way back in the 80s before the internet was a thing.

Holding your breath is one thing because your body will always force you to breathe when you need to. But physically restricting yourself from breathing is a completely different level and is significantly more dangerous. Keeping him in my prayers.

at this point just get TikTok removed from the app store. people have died from these stupid little challenges. remember the KIA challenge? 4 people died from that. remember the ice cream licking challenge? people got sick from that. TikTok is causing lots of people to die from these challenges.

My little brother is 12 and I showed him this video and he promised me to never do this challenge. This kid is an example of what social media can do for you. It has its good effects and its bad effects

For everyone blaming TikTok, just know that this challenge is more than a decade old and even had a Criminal Minds episode done on something similar. I hate to defend TikTok but it’s true.

I hear you, kids hold their breathe for all sorts of wacky reasons, but NOT WITH A SHOESTRING. This " blackout challenge," is the "holding your breathe game" and it's literally not suppose to be deadly, our body kicks in flight or fight and makes us breathe. This poor soul used a shoe string......this was not those games or challenges....

No hate comments but all of this is the parents fault for not taking care of their child and checking their phone every now and then to see what they watch. I'm 15 and I'm not that dumb to do what other people tell me to do just because its "cool" so that's the price they pay for not taking proper care of their child.

Being a mother myself to an amazing young man who's living out of the country ( we're originally from Ontario Canada and he's away at a university in South Carolina in the USA ) I just feel heartbroken for his parents and the rest of his family SO we'll be donating to honor his memory as well as the family. 💔😢❤

As a teen who spends a majority of my time on the internet, this "blackout challenge" isn't a thing anymore and to be honest never really was much of a thing (I know a few years back there were some stories on it, but I genuinely have never heard of it, seen a video of someone attempting it, or anything like that aside from news reports) They found this kid with a shoelace around his neck, he wasn't trying to "hold his breath". They need to consider a suicide attempt as a possible explanation. Not everything can be blamed on social media, "challenges" in general aren't that much of a thing anymore anyways.

Black out challenge is done with your hands or holding your breathe. This sounds like suicide.

I’m telling you this is natural selection taking its course.

This is absolutely heartbreaking. No parent should suffer such a tragedy. I remember this same thing going around years ago and many people died from it. It's just senseless. Sending love to this family.

No, it was a thing thank GOD it didn't go too viral. But in some of the videos, people got small seizures and did it to feel like they're on drugs or something like that, or feel high. Idk,

I dunno what kind of method they do but im pretty sure he knew using shoelaces to tie on his neck can kill. Plus like other comment said he did it in the bathroom. Kinda suspicious. I felt like he was indeed attempt suicide. But i understand it would be too hard for the parents to accept that

Literally Reminds Me Of That Dad Who Blamed Qurantine On His Sons Suicide When He Died In April Which Was Less Then A Month Into Qurantine. People Really Under Estimate Children's Mental Health. There's Been Numerous Kids Who Committed Suicide
