My dog sleeps with me, and I sleep better because of it. Her warmth, her rhythmic breathing, and the feel of her soft body next to mine provides me with incalculable comfort. She is a small Westie so she always lets me get settled first, and once she has decided I’m settled she will tuck her little body next to mine. She does this so she doesn’t get hurt by getting close to me before I am settled because I’m like an elephant compared to her. Another thing she does is she escorts me to my side of the bed at bedtime. It’s so sweet.

I sleep better with my dogs too. lol they’re not small. But I have a king size bed. I woke up this morning in the middle of a warm cuddle puddle. It’s great. When I’m trying to fall asleep I put my hand on one if their backs, and their calm breathing lulls me to sleep. 😊

Lol. When I leave, I explain where I'm going and how long I'll be gone, too. Then I apologize profusely for having to leave without her. When I return, I ask for forgiveness, play with her, and give her treats.

I got my first dog at 37 years old and have slept with her since. It could be coincidence, but I haven’t gotten so much as a cold since. I think the germs and allergens she brings have strengthened my immune system.

My immune system greatly improved once I let my dog sleep with me (in my 20s and early 30s. He's since passed.) But I visited my brother's dog last weekish (let's be honest I was there for the dog, not the brother,) and napping with him made both of us so happy. And we just played and went outside and spent time together. It was wonderful. At least for me. I think he enjoyed it too. He was so stoked that I let him nap with me. (He's not allowed in my brother's bed, as far as I know.)

Sleeping with my dog was preferable to the kids😂... my son liked to fart in my face and my daughter was like a helicopter in the bed, but my dog just nestled in and was content for the night and her steady snore was like a white noise machine, so relaxing...

Dogs have a level of understanding and a vocabulary similar to a three-year-old human child, so if you use that as a model, then it becomes easier to know what to do and why. Over time, a dog can learn that “going to the store” and “be right back” means a short separation, and that certainty can help him or her develop impulse control… just like a little child! Simplicity and reliability are the keys to getting the results you want.

This is the first video of yours that I have seen, and I felt it was so good on so many levels that I decided to subscribe on the spot. I would be interested to know how you decided upon your creative approach, because I was particularly moved by the fact that such deep content was being presented in such a breezy, popular style. Often when creators adopt such a style, the content can be too watered-down to be useful. But you are integrating research findings and some of the newest thinking on the bonds between dogs and humans into a presentation style that anyone can quickly absorb. That is doing such a service-to dogs, first of all! Because as well as they seem to understand and love us, all too often we humans don’t return the favor. Much of the reason for this has to do with the indoctrination that humans receive, starting at a very young age, about the superiority of the human race. It’s a worn-out view that blinds us to the signs all around us that other animals, including especially our dogs, are more like us than we might want to admit. Science is re-discovering what we once knew when we first made friends with the ancestors of today’s “fur babies.” Dogs are such powerful medicine for us because they are so tuned into our thoughts and feelings. And that’s because they have thoughts and feelings, too. Our ancient ancestors must have realized this about the wolves they transformed into dogs. Then we forgot. But our dogs never did. If science succeeds in reminding us why we fell in love with dogs in the first place, humans will find it impossible to ignore all the suffering and neglect that dogs around the world currently experience at our hands. That would be good for dogs. It would be good for people, too. And then it’s just a short stretch before it becomes good for all life. You are helping to inspire a new way of living in relation to the world by making this video with the authenticity and broad appeal it possesses. Keep up the great work!

We got a dog a week ago. I think sleeping with the dog is overkill. Our dog can roam downstairs and the garden as much as he wants, but we teach him not to come upstairs. Instead I sleep on the sofa in the living room for the last week until he is used to the new environment, but this makes my wife unhappy :)

Who are these monsters not doing most of these? Like bathing - that one's iffy, and like sleeping with your dog if you have allergies, I guess. But who doesn't greet their dogs as soon as they get home? Or pet them? Or not take them outside?? Like all of these things are basics.

It is. This is the worst advice on this video. Dogs don't need to be bathed very regularly, unless they have certain skin conditions or allergies or they get into something gross. I washed my lab like once a year mostly because he didn't smell and his skin was good. I hosed him down occasionally (if he decided to go swimming in the river or bathing in mud), otherwise, but no real bath. He HATED baths. But I also had kiddie pools for him in the summer. Plain water was plenty most of the time. I really only bathed him like maybe once a year at most due to odor and that's cuz he got into something.

I bathe mine 1-2 times a month but we live in a hot humid climate so maybe that’s why. I can’t imagine not bathing him monthly given he sleeps with me.

My dog has an old sofa cushion, a very large sofa cushion next to my wife and I are n the floor, she can come on the bed to say good morning but she isn’t sleeping in the bed with us, maybe if it’s ever cold enough she can sleep on my feet but she won’t be under the blankets with my wife and I, I always say hello but I don’t say goodbye.

Bathe every 3 months?!? We bathe our Boston terrier every 2-3 weeks - she needs it. If they have an odor, they should be bathed. I'd hate to wait for 4-6x this long to be clean again!

Honestly, my lab almost never needed baths unless he went into something smelly. He naturally smelled really good. If your dog is so stinky and it's not related to getting into stuff, you probably need to look at his diet.

I never bath the dogs and they live in the house and are not smelly. If you have a smelly dog it’s either rolls in stuff a lot, or you are feeding it a processed diet. I take my dogs for a country walk every day and they some times go in the river for sticks - no soap involved!

I only bathe my dogs if they get into something dirty and they take two walks a day and have a dedicated outdoor space (no grass to ensure no fleas, plus no mowing! Plastic grass though). I comb them out frequently, which distributes the oil on their hair better, but the video talked about cleaning “sweat” off with a bath- unless you’re using your dog as a towel after a work-out, they don’t have sweat on them- dogs pant, not sweat for cooling.

It really depends where you live. Mine gets bathed 1-2 times a month. Not cuz he smells but because I like him to be clean and smell extra nice. In a hot climate I think they need it more.
