Dude, during my deployment, I came across some absolutely insane marijuana and opium farms. I managed to capture some fantastic photos of them! 😂 Edit: Funny thing is, I didn't even realize it was in India. I was still watching the Afghanistan segment when I read your comment.

Yep, and it seems like it's usually the superstitious Chinese that are driving most of these ecological disasters and since they've become so wealthy it's exacerbated the problem as now they can afford to indulge their silliness. The irony of Mahmoud saying “We are sacrificing ourselves to feed our children!” yet everything they are all doing refining the crude oil is contaminated and toxic and is going to end up killing them and their children! Mahmoud also says when he and his family arrived in Tarin in 2012 there was nothing there it was barren, yet the narrator displays the satellite images from 2011 showing the area of Tarin was covered in orchards growing, then several years later the land is black, and barren & marked by refineries. So it seems Mohmoud isn't being truthful about Tarin being barren and having nothing there, and he is one of the people that has caused the area of Tarin to be in the contaminated state that it is in now because of the way they've been refining the oil! Life is never simple, life is hard and most everyone has their own shity hand dealt!

Sadly when money is hard to come by safety is usually one of the first things that gets compromised to lower the costs. A lot of these also seem to be in places where they don't have very good workers rights, so the people organising these businesses can get away with paying so little for people to go risk their lives, even when the product is worth more than enough to pay decent wages and still be profitable.

Datri is busting her ass feeding her son and his wife AND their child. Why the hell doesn't her sons wife work while Datri stays home to care of the children? that pisses me off. Got this sweet hard working old lady who has all these health problems working in poor conditions to gather tiny bits of metal so that she can earn 3 dollars a day and she is still so upbeat and positive about it, which i love about her.
