Yes... Born in 59 also in some urban developed area in the distant Brazil when and where a black and white TV set was a rare jewell to any Brazilian middle class boy... Along standing with bright voice actors, Allen's "lost in space" was a hallmark in the American perception of humanity in our living room during the 60/70s. It was an unique alternative future and pathway to all the humanity: the 60s traditional family of pioneers with all the traditional values of our common culture. Amazingly in that show, the humanity was impermeable and immune to the superb and powerful technologies they carried on with themselves, including automation and robotics: that familial society was the eternal technological and scientific heyday of humanity. 1958. I even got the lost in space board game for a birthday present. Oh the pain The pain.

3 years is short lived for any show. One of the most appealing aspects was the tongue-in-cheek total camp. As a 9 year old kid, I loved it!

Ah yes, the good old days in the late 60’s. Vietnam, student protests, riots, Bobby Kennedy’s and Martin Luther Kings assassinations, hippies. The only escape we kids had were the Irwin Allen shows, the Wild Wild West and Star Trek.

Born in 63, so I remember seeing most of the show in reruns when I was a little older. One of my favorite shows of all time.

As a child I looked forward to watching a new episode each week.

Yes! I still remember that super dramatic music they played at the end... just as some crawling vine would wrap around one of the characters' legs.

It's a shame there wasn't a concluding episode where they finally made it back home.

it couldn't be "Lost in Space" if they were neither lost nor in space! Ah well, that's what hap[pens when a show gets the axe a bit prematurely. Would probably have been a better ending had they found their way to the original destination of Alpha Centauri.. the show could have ended with them finally arriving to find other colonists had already arrived and are thriving, or a horizon shot of several 'second wave' colonist ships approaching.. making radio contact and... roll final credits.

Lost in Space was an ingenious show which, though some felt was hokey, gathered a wonderful cast, fun writers and show runners, to bring us three seasons of excitement, humor, intrigue, and warmth, in a futuristic cool setting.

I absolutely loved the show, I was aged 9 through to 12 when the show aired and it could have gone on forever as far as I was concerned. Jonathan Harris was a great actor as was Guy Williams and I was disapointed that he didn't get more air time and felt as though he was not really appreciated on the show. After all he did play Zorro and was an action Movie star when he came to the show. Heres a little known fact, in the fifties Jonathan Harris had a sitcom where he was a hotel manager with an overly bossy wife and a bell boy come everything named Manuel that centered around the family dynamic and the hotel guests who were guest stars of each episode.... remind you of a british show from the early seventies? Oh and Jonathan Harris was the first person to be called a " Special Guest Star".

Irwin Allen was told to ''cut costs'' even further . the cast was under the impression it was having a 4th season, until Allen told them, that he could no longer produce the show with such budget cuts. there was to be a 4th season, until money and greed showed it's evil hand. i just wish that they could have had a special one night only, to allow the fans of the show a closure and find there way back home. grew up loving this show. thanks Fact Verse, i just subscribed.

I adored this as a kid. I brought the box set when it came out. I rewatch the episodes to this day. :)

I was 6 years old when lost in space debut in 1965 and I loved it from very start it was campy but also whimsical which made it so enjoyable to watch which made kids in particular it's core audience

Aaaahhhh, memories of my youth. I was born in 1960 and I loved Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and many others. But I only got to see them on a black-and-white TV. Color TV's were just too expensive. And the remote was me or my sisters. Dad: Get up and change the channel. LOL

This was one of my favorite series when I was a kid. Even after the second season when it got idiosyncratic I'd still watch it every Saturday's.

I wish lost in space would have lasted longer. I was such a big fan.

I agree

Irwin Allen missed a tremendous opportunity for having the series last a few more years. He had great actors. All the show needed was better scripts. The first year was captivating, for the most part, but then the show started getting silly. In an interview for Archive of Television, Bill Mumy said that he had approached Allen with a script for a movie and his response to Mumy was : "Who authorized you to write a scrip?" Unbelievable. Tremendous opportunities that were missed along the way.

i agree 100%. erwin allen shows start good,but they get sillier the longer they run. the b-w shows were great!! would have loved to see it keep the b-w theme into the color shows.

My Dad, not a SF fan, used to shake his head and say "if they'd only get rid of that guy" (Dr. Smith). Smith started out as a sinister villain and became a screeching buffoon. The show had all the elements of a great show, a stellar cast, and parts of it (especially the robot) are iconic, but the scripts became absurd and lazy as hell.

As a young boy growing up with model Airplanes in the late 1960s..Lost in Space and even more The Thunderbirds had me severely hooked that I never missed an episode of either.

The only thing I Didn't know was that they had won an award for those great costumes. The Lost in Space robot was created by the same guy who created Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet. Robby the Robot co-starred with Robot B9 on at least one episode of the show. John Williams actually computed TWO theme songs for the series. The new theme was used in the third season.

I remember racing home from school to watch Lost in Space. Looking back now, I wish the show kept to the original concept, that being a more realistic space drama.

The actor who played the father wanted a more serious take like what the first season offered. What I wish they had thought of was changing it up. Have a few comedic episodes then have a serious one. A more balanced take like this could have had the show survive. Also, if they had the comedic episodes advance the same plot as the serious ones would have been interesting. One thing which I never could understand involved Dr. Smith. He seemed to get the Robinsons into problems every week. I am surprised they didn't punish him (in universe) by forcing him into a sleeper tube.

Sooo wish Lost In Space went a few more seasons, my all time favourite show. I went and saw Jonathan Harris at the Seymour in Sydney, where he would tell anecdotes and answer audience questions and sign programs along with a beautiful replica of the B9. Of course I got his autograph and shook his hand. Thanks.

I missed one episode, loved it as a kid. It was a show that was ahead of its time and definitely wished it had lasted longer

Absolutely my favorite sci-fi TV show of all time!! I was born in 1961 and saw this show when I was five. I was instantly hooked for the rest of my life. and now I am 60 and still hooked on it. I had the lunch box and the robot Plus the spaceship and all all the toys associated with the show. The series inspired me to start drawing spaceships and monsters and then superheroes and then I became a comic book artist freelance. Recently I added the Hulu app on my TV so I can watch every episode all over again. Long live lost in space!!!

It is so much more than a tv series. It is a relaxing balm for the soul. It´s a company for the lonely, a cure for depression. It was a crime that Allen didn´t give a proper end to it.

I think the show had at least two seasons left!! It’s my favorite always has been ever shall be... now Dark Shadows, there is another goodie also!!

I totally agree. 2 more seasons would have made them finally make it to Alpha Centauri. Any longer and it would have become repetitive. It would have been great if they finally made it to a habitable planet at Alpha Centauri only to find other Humans already there that left many years after them but with the ability to travel at near the speed of light. Imagine their frustration at that discovery 😅

I think 'The Great Vegetable Rebellion' answers the "should it have Gone-on Longer?" question!

I saw it in re-runs when I was 11-12 years old in the 1980's. It was a fav of mine to watch. I don't remember If it was evenings or late afternoon. All those years later the show had comedy & suspense that left you "hungry" for the next episode. I was a movie projectionist for 4 yrs. I ran Jurassic Park. "Johnny" did me proud on that sound track!

I wanted the show to last much longer then it did, Great show for it's time

One of my favorite shows, spent months designing and building a model Jupiter 2. It was doing this that I quickly discovered that the ship on the show was more akin to the TARDIS as it was impossible to design a ship with the space that allowed all the various levels, storage, landing craft, etc. It needed to be around twice as big.

Loved the show growing up. One of the funniest references to the show was what Tom Arnold said in the movie “ Big Bully “ he said “ I was sent to a juvenile detention facility and shared a room with a kid who set his mom on fire because she was vacuuming during Lost in Space. Lol

The Great Vegetable Rebellion was the nail in the coffin for the show. I think it would have lasted a lot longer if the show had gone in the opposite direction it did i.e. MORE dramatic and less camp. Plus, it suffered the same fate as all of Allen's shows in that he refused to hire different writers and the episodes became decidedly "tired".

I agree! 👍 Also, don't forget that "Star Trek" debuted. Star Trek's special effects took the viewers to a higher level of realism, compared to "Lost in Space." That was a big part of their loss of viewers as well. 🌌

June Lockhart mentioned in a 1995 special on Irwin Allen,that during the filming of this episode both she and Guy Williams couldn't stop laughing so much that Irwin had them written out of the next two episodes. Also you'll notice Mark Goddard was turning his head away so you wouldn't see him laughing as well.

As a kid I wanted to BE Will Robinson, have a robot, and have adventures in space.

I used to love coming home from school to watch lost in space... I even enjoy watching it now.

The parts that I really didn't like at all were the silly or what the narrator called "campy" . I much more enjoyed the programs in which they took the rover out looking for water etc, or had to fight to stay alive.🖋

Exactly. I knew someone who was an executive at WB in the 80s and they were considering doing a LIS movie but all their audience research showed that people did not like the campy aspects at all- so the studio decided to pass on the project.

Totally agree. One of my favorite episodes was Season 1's "The Hungry Sea". That episode was so well-done, with sweeping landscapes and science-based events, that it's hard to recognize many of the other episodes from the series as being from the same show!

In 68 I got to meet the robot on stage in Las Vegas at the muscular distraphy tellathon, I was a six year old cubscout and got my picture in the paper, The good old days.

For a while there was a company in UK making REAL ones you could buy- full size Real robots.. expensive, but would have been nice...

This was a favorite show of mine as a kid. And I used to have many of the Space Family Robinson comics back then too. They were something I always looked forward to getting. I was so sad when I couldn't get them any longer.

Danger Will Robinson. I remember the robot saying that a lot. Many good memories watching the reruns of this show in the 70’s. Thank you for another memorable tv show that I watched as a kid. 👍

Lost in space should have lasted many more years than it did. There could have been many more plotlines and many more dimensions that the Jupiter 2 and the Robinsons could have explored. This show is an excellent example of how Irwin Allen was able to recreate his imagination and place it into the minds of generations.

What's your favorite episode of the show, Donald?

My absolute all-time favorite episode from 1967 (I was nine years old at the time, never missed an episode): When the Robinsons return to earth, not yet realizing they passed throuhh a time warp and it's actually 1947! They find a new-looking vintage car parked close to where they landed- actually a 1946 Ford- and then the truth begins to dawn on them. My favorite line from this episode from Father Robinson: "The last time I saw a car like this was in a museum!"

...I loved the laser rifle shot into the lumber pile..so realistic for a 6 year old...glued to the t.v in Australia.Also John’s speech to the townsfolk at the end...so dramatic and ..noble..in his speech to the 1940’s humans that will never comprehend what is happening....and tiring the story line into the birth of the UFO phenomena...Safe Passage on your journey through the Universe.Hope you find your..Alpha Centauri 💫

I was born in 1957, so I was primed for it in 1965. Loved it!!!

I have every episode and still watch them once in a while. An all time classic that will never get old.

I wish the rest of the season was like Season 1. Like most Irwin Allen series it never had a ending or resolution. It deserved one though. Overall Lost In Space(just the name which represents the concept) would inspire, Space:1999 and Star Trek: Voyager.

With the exception of a few episodes, Season 1 was excellent. I think the filming in black and white made the show even better. They started filming in color at the start of Season 2, which made every planet look exactly the same, and quite phony looking. However, color enhanced the in-space episodes, making the appearance of space look more realistic.

I can still remember playing out on my porch and my mom coming out to tell me that new space show was coming on. Even at six years old I was in to the space program and can remember watching that first episode.

Super show lost in Space, being born in 1962 in Australia, i recall watching it as a young kid, some episodes scared me lol. Watching re_runs as a teenager, still found it to be a great show, loved the character's. Bought the 50th Anniversary edition. Again brilliant. Some of wat was shown was really trailblazing, dispelling religion probably cost it in the 60's.. May it continue to be a shining star. Bravo Lost in Space. Colin O'donnell Lexton Victoria Australia

"Never fear, Smith is here! Dr.Smith is my favorite character and always will be. I think Jonathan Harris was such a talented man and very eccentric & hilarious. Without him the show would lack the rebel needed to add drama to the plots. He, the robot and Will were a terrific team. Science Fiction was fun back then and colorful and I adored those studio based alien planet sets. I think they should have continued the show for at least another 3 seasons and had them return home. Thank you so much Mr.Irwin Allen. Great video.

The family dynamics was also one of the show's greatest hook!!!!! Back then it was one of the most excellent parts of the show because that was how families were during that time period!!!!!!! Nowadays it's really sad to see that kind of close knitted family falling to the wayside of history!!!!!!!! Also the phrase " Danger Will Robinson" became part of our American vernacular and is still used to this day!!!!!!!

This was by far my favourite show as a child. I absolutely LOVED the space ship. When I'm doodling, to this day, I often sketch the Jupiter! And of course I LOVED the robot!!! I was so excited when Netflix came out with an updated version. Which I think they've done such a great updated version of. So psyched for December 1, 2021 when the final season comes out on Netflix!!!

❤ one of my favourite shows of all time Lost in Space was one of my favorite shows for all time I am 66 years old now and I still loved the dance show and I loved the theme I just love anything about any of it takes me back to when I was a child and we waited and waited to watch it excellent

While growing up this show always fascinated me!!!!!!! It gave me a thriving love for both science and science fiction that i still love now with a passion!!!!! Because of this show i watched and enjoyed ALL the coverage of the Apollo moon landings!!!!! I always noticed the shift from black a white to full color for the 2nd and 3rd seasons and the shift in story telling at the beginning of the third season!!!!!! My thanks to Irwin Allen John Williams( great music by the way) an the cast and crew for fun excited 😁 enjoyable and excellent 83 episodes!!!!! Jonathan Harris Bill Mumy and the Robot made the show what it was!!!!!!!

I was addicted to the show (in syndication) growing up in the 70's. Our local UHF station would broadcast Lost in Space followed by Star Trek every afternoon, and that was a staple for me and my friends back then. I grew tired of the farcical nature of the show as the seasons went on, and became more of a die-hard Trekkie. I'll tune into the original series now and then, but it just does not hold up. Loved the movie in the late 90's. It had potential to be more. But I must say that the revision to Lost in Space on Netflix was INCREDIBLE!!! Loved it! I thought that Parker Posey brought a great, sociopathic and diabolical edge to Dr. Smith that was missing in the original series after the first few episodes. The ensemble was well cast, but unlike the original series, each episode was part of the overall story arc.

Had the show not ended after three seasons I think it unlikely that it would have become the beloved classic for generations that it is because the 'kids' would have naturally grown up rather than being forever young and capturing the hearts of each 'next' generation. I was alive when the show aired but too young to watch it. I caught it in syndication every day after school along with Gilligan's Island, Speed Racer, and Ultra Man. LiS aired for decades. I don't know, but it may still be on the air.

My sister and I grew up watching this show am I still be watching it today they continue the show episodes probably. But you're video on the show and hidden secrets, brought back a lot of very good memories and I greatly appreciate it.

The first season was the best. I heard because of the kid friendly time slot, the kids were frightening so the network asked if they can make it less scary and more campy

Hi, your clip on Lost in Space was in my KZread feed tonight. Glad it came up as it was one of my favorite TV shows as a kid. I saw the show in syndication around 1974 or so. I definitely feel that the show was cancelled too early. I'm sure the writers could have come up with a 4th season that could have returned to a bit more serious season like the 1st season was. I would have liked the show to have ended with a proper ending... Maybe having them actually reached the Alpha Centauri system or maybe have found their way back to Earth. Thanks for the clip. Fav episodes are Trip Thru the Robot and the one where Will is transported to Hatfield Four Corners on earth. Crescendo records also put out a 7 disc compilation set of the soundtrack that includes all music and sound effects from the show and Allen's other shows. A great collectors item!

A decent summary thank you. Paul Z was a fabulously talented hard working artist and contributed much more than his credited costumes..he's in the pilot (and first ep edirrd from pilot) of the show to name one extra thing..look at the rows of technicians and you will see him!

As a kid, I loved watching lost in space, when I came home from school it was on at 4pm, so looked forward to watching it.😊

The best episodes were during the 1st season, black and white episodes! With exception of a few, Irwin Allen went goofy in allowing the most ridiculous episodes in the remaining colorized programs! Many of those reminded me of skits of Gilligan's Island with such goofiness! The Black and white episodes were more realistic and the plots were more about technology rather than humans turning into vegetables! Too bad that Lost In Space went goofy, it may have lasted quite a bit longer!

@@macwyll I really liked the first season too. But then it got too corny, even to a kid. It reminded me of that stupid Batman series. Whoever dreamt up those concepts must have been influenced by the drug culture of the sixties.

It certainly would have been interesting to see what direction it would have taken In an additional season.

Should have lasted longer. It was the first show that got me hooked in astronomy. I was eleven in 1965.

Great show, watched when I was a kid, and later years the reruns, but wish it had lasted longer, nice video

At 59 years old part of my childhood was watching Lost In Space, it was the best!

Bill Mumy said in an interview that CBS did renew the show for a fourth season but wanted to do it with a reduced budget. Irwin Allen thought he couldn't make a quality show on the money offered so he decided not to take the offer. But at the end of the third season, the cast expected to return for another and was surprised when it didn't happen.

Love watching the repeats in the 70s..also now it's still fun to watch on metv on Saturday night here.. it's cool that June Lockart is still alive.

I too loved this show as a kid. I actually got to stay up after my bedtime of 8pm to watch it. Iooked forward to that.

could have done a couple more seasons, and should've ended with them reaching Alpha Centuri

One of my favorite shows growing up as a kid..but boy did I hate that Dr Smith...indeed!!! lol

I still watch this on the weekends this year

I didn't realize till later that "Zorro" (Guy Williams) was the actor. I missed him in the B&W Zorro and disappointed that he didn't play a lead role, the kid seemed to be the star in the movie.

I was a big fan of Lost in Space. Thanks for this interesting review.

I am still watching this at age 59 and my DVR is set for MeTV every Saturday night at 1 AM Eastern. This is still the best sci-fi television series of all time.

I do the same, set my DVR on MeTv every week. I do have a nagging question: The theme song by John Williams is different in the 2nd (and 3rd) season from the 1st. I would like to know why that is?

I thoroughly enjoyed Lost In Space and watched basically all the episodes. I was disappointed when the show ended. It also made me somewhat angry and wondered what reason they decided upon to end it.

Irwin Allen certainly knew how to make a set. Those sets looked way better than Star Trek. He understood size too. Those planets looked bigger than those basketball sized planets the Enterprise always orbited.

Loved those episodes my years as a girl were happier with them

One of my faves in the 60/70s........once July 1969 came it was over for space tv until 1979 ...we could all see what space travel was really like by then.

A fourth season of Lost In Space would’ve been interesting as they thought they could develop the characters of Don and Judy to move more into family life with possibly having a child. The show did end rather abruptly with the last episode being the Junk Planet. Interestingly enough was that Dr. Smith and the Robot were not in the original unaired pilot but they were in the last scene of the last episode.

"Moisture! Moisture! I must have moisture! That was my favorite episode, it was so stupid!v" oh the pain, the pain"! Lol.😅😅😅😅😅

I really enjoyed the show. I so wish that it had continued for many more seasons.

I think the show should have gone on longer, probably bringing in new writers with fresh minds. The premise of the show, costumes, effects, technologies, and general concept of the plots were fabulous.

Still one of my all time favorite tv shows. What child wouldn't want to have the robot as a best friend. The very thought of adventures in space and being pioneers in space is awesome. One day it will be a reality.

I would have liked it had lasted a couple of more seasons with an inspiring ending but the way it was cut gave it the character of a classic.
