11x World Jiu Jitsu Champ Xande Ribeiro Shares His Secrets

Спорт

Xande Ribeiro explains his mentality for controlling his opponents. Moves are just moves, but teaching mindset and concepts will greatly increase your mental capacity for improvement in the art of Jiu Jitsu. Mindless repetition will not get you as far as fast as setting an intention for your training and focusing on the details you need to address to keep control of your opponent. Control leads them to only a small number of options to escape, then you wait for them there with the submission.

I totally agree with Xande. Sports made from martial arts have credibility the more their best practicioners utilize fight-effective strategies. There is no better position in a real fight than the mount. If every competitive black belt on earth was a mount beast and all anyone saw on highlights were takedowns guard passes and mounts, nobody would doubt the relevance of bjj for fighting, and more people would join gyms since 97% of people join bjj gyms to learn to fight. We have too many highlights of world champs jumping down on the ground and looking like upside down porcupines. Do we stop to think how ridiculous that looks to the watching world? We have a responsibility to the sport to leave it in good shape. Let's move away from overly nerdy moves that lack street soundness.
