Based on the signs it looks like that left turn was the wrong way on a one-way road. So that guy had only one legal option from where he started - to go straight. He solved this problem by first going left the wrong way on a one-way road, then backing up and turning right so he hit the bridge. Honestly next level driving.

We have a similar problem bridge in Lansing Michigan. The Pennsylvania Ave. bridge near Potter Park. It's a bit higher than the bridge in this video at 12 feet 0 inches. Everyone in town knows about it, but it still gets hit now and then. The bridge is owned by the railroad, which claims that this isn't their problem. The city can't lower the street, because it already ends up underwater when the nearby Grand River floods.

The bridge got raised to 12'4 and it still gets hit every so often. They only raised it to match the rest of the track, but otherwise they probably can't raise it any higher and they can't lower it because of the sewer system underneath

As a truck driver, this is the greatest video on youtube 😂😂😂

The funniest thing about the bridge is they raised it eight inches, put a detection system to turn the light red when there's an overhead truck coming through, the red light is a minute long and there's a flashing sign that warns them about the bridge, yet they still crash

Except for the last one, which was appeared to be a refrigerated unit and therefore had someone TRAINED driving it, these all appeared to be rentals, except maybe the moving vans. I think people are skimming through with their trucks weighted down and then coming back empty thinking they can just barrel on down the road no problems. Except the truck is taller now.

That bridge has seen more tops come off than Hugh Hefner.

I remember driving a 13'6"" up to an overpass somewhere up in New England. The overpass was marked 13'3". It was like 2am, no traffic. I had a heavy load, my trailer had dropped within an inch of the tires, 3, maybe 4 inches. I knew it was like Vegas close. So I crept forward standing with my door open. Once I edged the front of the trailer past the other side I knew I was in like Flynn. I DID NOT drive that route on the way out.

Most transit buses are never over 11 foot. Coach buses might be but a transit bus maxes out at just under 11 foot. Besides, they would never route a bus under something it can’t fit through.

And at that scale, bending is normal. Even when the bridge is hit, you can see the concrete bending. But the bar just stays where it is. While a know hardness and tensile strength are different, it almost feels like that bar could hold the entire bridge no problem.

What amazes me is the fact that the yellow bar doesn't move not even an inch off its position, taking the hits as a superhero!

There was so much wrong with it. First he goes the right way, as in, AWAY from the bridge, then someone blatantly runs a red light in the middle of other cars going, then this fool BACKS UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, backs into the WRONG SIDE of the road, just to go the one way he physically cannot. What a nightmare of stupidity

well rental truck companies in the area warn them about this bridge... even if they took the insurance it wouldn't cover the damage this bridge causes. You would need to actually replace the entire box of the truck in most of these cases. That is gonna cost them $5000-$25000+

the number one clip was beautiful. How he elegantly takes the left onto the one way, backs up into the opposite lane impeding traffic in all directions, makes his turn under 11"8 gets bonked, and then begins on his merry way.

When that guy ended up turning, and then backing up, I laughed so hard

I don't think that's getting the message across. I think drivers can see that and think it's a general statement: "vehicles that are over-height have to turn". It needs to be more direct: "Your vehicle is too high." or "You will hit this bridge!"

Just curious, do truck drivers know the heights of their cabs? I'm just wondering. Seems that would be a vital piece of information...🤷🏽‍♀️
