A handy tip for using desoldering braid is to hold a piece with hot tweezers. The tweezers supply the heat, allow more precision and stop you burning your fingers on the braid.

There is another way to fix it. You can disassembly switch without desoldering. There is only three parts inside. On the bottom of switch you have to scratch copper part to get it shiny and assemble back.

I did the replacement in under 10 min. I have extra parts if you want me to send you the switch. Or you can remove the board and ship it to me

I would use a side cutter and cut the leads. Then remove the rest of the component from the board, I'm lazy that way

I think this is more dangerous. Sometimes too much cutting force can be transferred trough the lead to the pad. At least I am afraid it could.

Another option is to protect the area around the switch with Kapton-Tape and use a hot-gun to de-solder it, however this method means to the switch is likely to melt.
