11 Tips For Loving the Walker's Haute Route

Ойын-сауық

Easily my most challenging hike. 120 miles (200k) of never ending ups and down on a route where other people were few and far between. But something I'm so proud for having done. I recommend 11 days and doing the full route, plus some tips I picked up along the way (see video details). Good luck with your trip planning!

Great video! Crisp and clear and thank you very much for letting the picture talk instead of yourself talking into the camera! Clearly outstanding vs. many other much longer videos with less content!

Nice video. I won't be able to do this one this year, but I'm aiming for summer 2025 for the WHR. Nobody else mentioned alternatives for the Europahütte, so thank you for offering a few backup ideas.

Yeah, I bet a lot of people skip the section due to lack of availability. But I would happily walk an extra few miles to get the full experience!

do you even need a tent for a hike like this? Looks incredible

People have, but I think you miss out on the fun of the huts/hotels. Mt. Fort, Moiry, Europahutte were all incredible, Arolla had the best food, and it's where you meet so many people, which I think makes the trip far more memorable. So go tent free!

You said on day you hiked from Chamonix to Trient, 14 miles - according to my guidebook the distance is closer to 17 miles. Did you take a shorter route?

Yes! I opted for the gondola out of Verbier, as the day was long enough. Really nice to have the extra time at Mont Fort to enjoy the view : )

Another approach would be to take the gondola from Le Chable to Verbier and walk from there, as you would get far better scenery.
