Amanda, you’ve provided an excellent and comprehensive overview of car camp breakfast options. I love hearing another persons ideas and always learn something I had not thought of. Here are a few additional nuggets from my family’s experiences of anyone cares to read on: • eggs often crack in transit and make a real mess. We now pre-crack our eggs and pour them into a Rubbermaid bottle that easily holds a dozen. You obviously have to keep in cooler or 12v fridge. They are then ready to just pour out into your heated skillet. • for egg sandwiches, keep a few mason jar lid rings in you camp box. Set on your hot skillet, plop in a small pat of butter, then pour in some egg for a well formed egg “patty” for sandwiches. • Coleman style camp stoves have two burners; while you are cooking meat and/or eggs on one side, use the other to toast your muffin, bagel or bread. I just use set on skillet w/pat of butter in it. • My family both car camps and backpacks. Dehydrated foods are a staple in the backcountry where everything must be shelf stable and weight is paramount, but over time, I’ve come to use it for an ever greater portions of our front country cooking as well. As for breakfast items, in addition to oatmeal and pancake mix’s discussed in the video, I also love dehydrated hash brown potatoes (can mix lots of stuff into them) and frequently use powdered milk, eggs, butter, tomato sauce and cheese. They allow you to stay out longer and pack lighter. • Last point, consider buying bulk packs of single serve condiments, such as syrup, PB, jelly, ketchup/mustard, hot sauce, relish, mayo, honey, etc... For most trips, you really don’t need much of these items. Instead of having your pantry box full of heavy jars/bottles you will barely use (most require refrigeration once opened so there goes your cooler space), just bring packets based on menu and # people. Stored properly, they last a long time. They are then ready for you to quickly grab & go when packing out and they also become part of your home emergency food stockage (along with dehydrated goods mentioned above). Apologies for such a run on “comment”

@Brandoify

@@Beachbreeze707 if it was me I would scrap out the loose food and then fill the pan half way with water and let it clean itself by boiling out. Then I’d probably add a couple drops of olive oil and use my finger to season it again. I’d then store it in a plastic container so hair, dust, etc doesnt stick to the pan.
@Brandoify

For clarity’s sake after adding water to the pan you should put the pan back on the fire. Let the pan cool before you season it with your finger!!!
I like dicing potatoes with scrambled eggs, sausage, onions and putting them in a foil pack. Very good!

Just found ur channel and watched your backpacking dehydrating meals video and you are awesome ! I've been backpacking for years ... I never thought about making my own ! Thank you!
Me and my husband are planning our first family camping trip this lady has single handedly helped us plan everything even with a 3 year old ! ❤
I have a favorite no cook breakfast I have when horse camping is overnight oats. I use a medium size canning jar, put in original oats (not quick) cinnamon, berries and almond milk. Put in the cooler overnight. Easy and delicious! Thanks for sharing all your tips, tricks and recipes. 😊
My favorite glamping breakfast for when my friends and I hit the Renn Faire is stuffed croissant french toast. Slice a croissant in half and on the not cut side, spread some cream cheese and the jam of your choice. Dip in egg, prepare as you would regular french toast. Serve with butter and maple syrup and the breakfast meat of your choice.
Egg in a hole. Kids love it. Slice of bread with a hole you cut in it and fried with an egg in the middle of it.

The best camping breakfast I have ever had was scrambled eggs with crab and cocktail sauce. It was the first night of an epic packrafting trip! We were finishing off the 5 pounds of fresh caught crab meat that someone brought for crab louise the night before. Delicious. More common breakfasts for me are very similar to yours! I like the idea of making a group parfait bar with different toppings. I usually car camp with a group of 6 or more, so being able to batch cook for different folks is a must!

Amanda, you hit on several of our favorite camping breakfasts as well. As my husband and I were watching your video, he was putting his hand on my shoulder and smiling at me as you mentioned meal after meal that we love. One we hadn't thought of was the breakfast quesadilla. That looks delicious! We will need to try that!

Can’t wait to try making the breakfast tacos! Thanks for the great idea. Plane white rice with a couple of over easy eggs on top. That’s my go to camping breakfast. It’s the only time I use Minute Rice . it’s so much easier that way.

That's a great idea! I use instant rice when camping too. It's just so easy. Sometimes I bring those pre-cooked packets of rice too, and those don't even need to be cooked, although I usually do heat them up. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your great ideas! Our family loves fried fish (when caught :) early enough) and fried potatoes, tomatoes, pancakes, fruit, bacon etc. All cooked and or contributed to by everyone.
Amanda is the best. You go girl.
Amanda, you have covered most of the meals I enjoy both at home and at camp. One I especially like to make at camp are omelets. Variations are endless, so everyone enjoys! Of course I use my cast iron cookware!

My two go-to's are Quaker Apple-Cinnamon Instant Oatmeal & breakfast burritos with scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, & cheese on a flour tortilla with some Picante sauce.
My idea is breakfast skillet casserole is scrambled eggs, Turkey meat of bacon or sausage, veggies with or without hashbrowns on bottom of cast iron throw above ingredients over hashbrowns or riced cauliflower with cheese and cook in cast iron skillet of course lots of butter too
i love this! i was thinking my kids LOVE boiled eggs. i could boil up 2-4 doz. eggs and perfect snack when its hot and also, just warm it up for breakfast? with toast and if it is getting where they might go bad make egg salad sandwiches??? makes sense to me lol
Getting so hungry watching this. You guys eat so well at camp, I'm jealous! For car camping where you have a full-size stove, skillet, and cooler, these are awesome suggestions. Personally I would love to see a backcountry/backpacking version of some of your cooking ideas because my current menu in the backcountry is very limited.

amandaoutside Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! My normal rotation of ramen, mac-n-cheese and salami with tortillas shouldn’t be hard to beat. I’m guessing custom dehydrated meals is the key...
I usually just do breakfast or chorizo burritos or some sausage, bacon, eggs, pancakes/French toast. It's basic yet simple... Even though I'll probably have to find new ideas for the future. Great video
We love the kodiak mix. I like to use them for waffles at home. I even made a chicken strip batter with it once, but that was soooo much protein I was stuffed after 2 strips, LOL. We always do cereal and milk on our tear down or travel day, so we don't have hot, dirty dishes to deal with.

Breakfast sandwiches and bkfast burritos are our go-to favorites when it’s our turn to feed bkfast to 8-12 people. I actually make them all at home, wrap in foil, then put them in storage containers. At camp in the morning, we put the foil wrapped packages on the bbq or campfire and they are ready in no time.

ok most of those camp breakfasts are fancier than what i make at home 😄 a favourite boat camp lazy breakfast is a yogurt parfait but i break up granola bars into it because those are always on the boat. also good ol fashion croissant with coffee and fruit is an easy one. very continental 👌

I love the idea of a granola bar with the yogurt because I always seem to have those around too! And a croissant with coffee and fruit... YES to that!! 😁
I am a 30 year old protein craving man and you have me sold on easy camp meals. I find just carbs dont give me or my father the mental energy we need. This menu is great.
PRO TIP: Overnight Oats. Get a jar and put 1/4 C instant oats + 1/2 C almond milk. Add nuts, seeds and frozen fruit. Leave it in you cooler overnight and in the morning add some Greek yogurt and raw honey. Energy for hours + no need to dirty a pan or use any fuel.

Delish! My suggestion has to be a slice of cut bread toasted and scrapped with fresh garlic on one side. Then add sliced olives, sundried tomatoe, and feta cheese with a drizzle of olive oil - sooo goood! A nice break from the usual. 👍
I'm taking 5 young ladies camping. I needed ideas quick. Thanks for KISS
Oatmeal is one of our standard camping breakfasts. When backpacking, we use packets of instant oatmeal, so we only need boiling water (for coffee, cocoa, and oatmeal). Kids usually want 2 packets of flavored oatmeal. Adults usually want 1 packet of flavored oatmeal and 1 packet regular oatmeal. When car camping, I simmer dried fruit and spices in the water before adding the oatmeal. Dried cranberries and apple pie spice is a great combination. When I take it off the heat, I add a touch of vanilla extract and some brown sugar. For a large group, breakfast burritos are great. Have a bunch of filling ingredients (scrambled eggs, sausage/bacon, hashbrowns, salsa, cheese, sour cream, etc.) and let everyone add whatever they want to their own burrito.
Hi Amanda I’m new to your channel and was just curious to where you buy a lot of your snacks and meals that you don’t do from home at ?
Amanda, although foil is the campers best dream it’s important to place a barrier between the food and the foil. Aluminum is linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. My trick...place a layer of paper bag(s) maybe parchment paper, between the food and the foil!!

Sometimes on longer camping trips and road trips, I will make a stop at a grocery store to restock food and to get ice as needed. My cooler usually keeps cool for at least a few days or longer depending on the temperature outside. In general, when we're at camp we always try to keep the cooler in the shade and open it as little as possible, and that definitely helps to keep it cold. Thank you so much for watching! I'm so happy to hear that your family is enjoying the videos and some time outdoors!

If it is hot at your campsite, a trick I have used (with a cheap cooler, I'm not sure it would work with something like a Yeti that's so insulated) is to take a blanket and get it soaking wet and drape the blanket over the cooler. As the water evaporates, it naturally keeps the cooler cold! The hotter out, the better! I have accidentally frozen things doing this. You will want to keep the blanket wet. I've used this on a rafting trip and while camping. Some other tips: use block ice (or frozen milk jugs) instead of the smaller pieces. The blocks melt slower. You can also plan your meals to where you're using the fresh ingredients at the beginning of your trip and save the meals that don't require refrigeration for later in the trip (using canned goods, tortillas, etc.)
Something I'd love to see is cooking in one pan/one pot. Cleaning from cooking is the WORST when camping as the sink water is usually freezing, the sink can get clogged easily, etc. I guess cast iron would be a good option since you don't technically wash those with soap right?
Im going into a no fire season camp, can you use a dutch oven (with legs) over a camp stove?!? I wanted to do your nacho ideas, but don't want to plan something that i dont have a backup for!
We are new, love the channel! Are you in the Arizona region? We are in Wisconsin.
Love these ideas! My boyfriend and I are new to camping. We've researched some places we want to go, but it seems bears and mountain lions frequent those areas. I was wondering if you've ever had an encounter with that kind of wildlife? 🐻
@amanda.outside
4 жыл бұрын
I've never seen a mountain lion, but I have seen bears (from a distance!!). Proper food storage is important when camping and depending on the area, some campgrounds even have food lockers to store your food at night so bears don't get at it.

Thanks for the tips Amanda. Here’s a tip for you, toss out that butane lighter and use a Arch Lighter. The Arch lighters are wind and rain proof. They also work in cold weather unlike butane lighters. Buy the one with the flexible neck, way better then the other type. You also have a choice of USB rechargeable lighters (most common) or the AAA battery types. Once you try it, you’ll never go back to those butane lighters again.
