Just the fact that during the Holidays, all of them, families and friends would get together for picnics , birthdays , the birth of a child, summer vacations. The so called Nuclear Family did nothing but completely destroy our sense of community. Mass media has produced division and opposition under currents of hate, greed, envy . Biblically the Battle has been lost with Satan as the Victor

The train I remember was Lionel were you plug in the transformer and connect the leads to the track on the wood floor in the living room. Actually there were miniature towns and cities that you would build with fire hydrants, trees 🌲, park benches, churches ⛪️ and schools 🏫 that would be placed and designed to replicate an actual place. I had forgotten about those, being born in 1950 there’s so many memories after one recovers from a traumatic medical event which happened to me in 2015 and again in early 2019 . It’s Truly been a Blessing as I recovered and memories that I otherwise wouldn’t have had- the clarity and detail of when the dreams began was around 18 months after each event- I had been sent to a Psychiatrist who was going to retire the next week and he had told me that due to the fact that the 2 events had happened close together that my recovery was going to be unusual- to say the least-interesting don’t you think 🤔

My Dad had One of the coldest ashtrays ever- its made from highly detailed ceramic and glazed finish with the half moon base design with a Colt 45 laying on it’s left side with the 7.5 inch barrel- the cylinder notch’s are were you placed your burning cigarette or cigar and the ash falls to the bottom were a rattlesnake is coiled up and the ash builds up there. There’s the shadow of a hawk flying above the seen and a place to set the shot glass that came with the ashtray. After my Dad passed away I took possession of it and it’s One of my favorite memories of my Father.

Back in the day if you wanted to go see a friend you ride your bike over and knock on the door, their Mom would answer and say come in and ask if you wanted a glass milk or a sandwich and we go outside and play ball or hide and seek or cowboys and Indians with our cap guns . We would ride our bikes to the park and go swimming in the pool during summer and fly kites on windy days. I consider myself so very fortunate to have been raised when I was

I got a thin wheel Schwinn racer for my birthday when I was ten. In the summer all of the kids whose parents were members would be taken to the country club to spend the afternoon swiming, fishing, golfing, or sunbathing. But my dad was a doctor and only came home to grab a sandwich at noon and go from the hospital to his office. So when I was about eleven I got the courage to ride my bike the six miles on the two lane country highway to the club. That way I could leave whenever my chores were done (and sometimes on a hot day when they weren't). I'd put on a pair of cutoffs and a T shirt and off I went golfing and swimming until 5:00 p.m. and then start for home. Getting home before anyone missed me and in time for supper at 6.00. I did that until I was 16 had my driver's license and my sister's hand me down Ford.

The worst thing to me as a kid then was to go to someone's birthday party. Always seemed to be in spring or summer. The mom would get china plates, slice off a big piece of cake and cut neopolitan ( gag,) ice cream that got all over the cake! Course we were outside too. To this day I will not eat that.kind of ice cream!😅

I remember the TV Guide growing up as a kid in the 80s, but we never bought one. We just simply looked through the newspaper instead, which had a TV channel schedule insert in it. I also remember console TVs -- my grandmother had one of those, and I watched programs on it as a child. It was so heavy that it took two people to move it! However, the flat top was nice, because you could put things on top of it, and that flat top came in handy for decorating at Christmas time!

Well I have both a victrola and a player piano in my living and dining room. The victrola is an upright hornless one made of solid oak. I have a large collection of 78 record from the teens to the 1950's that sound great on a machine whose volume is controlled by a simple rod on the side of the case. The player piano was my wife's grandparents originally and it still plays. We have a lot of old German scrolls and also several dozen modern songs, mostly showtunes from the 50's through the 80's.

I loved seeing our family pictures on a wall with a projector. Those nights were so much fun and a good venue for talking, laughing and sharing together. My grandparents had a huge 3 piece stereo system in their home. Each component was finely crafted in solid mahogany. It consisted of a huge set-in turntable with storage for LPs and two massive speakers that were about 3 1/2' tall and 2' across. They must have invested a pretty penny to get such a "state-of-the-art" system.

We had a small TV b&w set with rabbit ears, and yes, TV Guide. We got a revolving color console TV, a Motorola. We never had a conversation pit or picture rails. Grandma had a Victoria that we just played with! No, we didn’t have a parlor, that was more one like a certain section of the living room. My apartment in NY had a transom window over the door. There was also the remnants of a transom in the bathroom.

Oil lamps with floating glops of orange gunk which transfixed the whole family for hours and served as a talking point for visitors. Weekly TV mags still popular in UK. We also had something called a Lazy Susan - a revolving 3 tier cake stand to wow your visitors when the tinned ham and salmon sanwiches came out. The After Eight Chocolate Mint box was often presented in its own brass table top box display case.
