Such a well thought out pack, can't wait to get it. Favorite feature: the water bottle holder. I'll take a metal water bottle with zero taste over a manky hydration tube any day. The phone holder is nice too, especially when used as an urban pack walking to work or the coffee shop. From what I've seen, this bag ticks all the boxes of the do-everything bag I wanted.

Best camera bags ever made. Can't wait for my Action X 50 to arrive. The attention to detail and quality of these bags are unmatched. I don't gush about many companies but I will about Shimoda.

There are some awesome points! Discovered something new for myself haha And your backpack is so well thought out and full of detail, no wonder its sold out everywhere 😅 Glad I got my hands on one!

Got my Explorer 60 earlier today and was off for a 7 mile hike, just what i need camera and lenses and other bits n bobs all well secured in the medium core unit, tons of space for my stove, gas canister and waterproofs and spare water bottle, tripod held securely , fitted very well no movement , love it and cannot wait to get it on again :-)

The absolutely best backpack you can get! So many well thought about details, amazing! Would love to have a suggestion box, to make it individually perfect for everyone (the core unit cover could need also a side access zipper in my opinion, an additional acessory velcro lid for the core units would be amazing so the gear is protected to fall out, additional bumper and dust protection, ...) Not criticizing since this thing is already unbeatable !

Hi, the cover is not designed to be used in the bag, it is simply a dust cover and or packing cell. We do not over design them as it quickly effects the cost for an item that isn't really designed to be used much. Hope that makes sense. Ian

Great video, thank you! I unfortunately missed the kickstarter campaign but will likely preorder the X70 (over the X50) for multi day backpacking trips. These tips are great and secretly answered my biggest concern, will the left shoulder strap accommodate a peak design capture one clip. Yes! I just wish they were already available!

I've only just caught up on Shimoda camera bags. The X30 looks perfect for me and I do appreciate all the attention to detail that has gone into the design and materials. There's one thing I'd like to be re-assured about though......my current bag is a F-stop Guru which as you know has a separate inner (ICU) like the Shimoda bags. The problem with it is that small items slip down from the top section into the ICU and potentially out of the bag altogether. Would that be a problem with the X30 or are the two sections phsically separate? Many thanks.

Hi, We have a floating liner that separates the top section from main compartment. Which means you can keep things seperate from the main area or put things other than the Core Unit in there. It should be obvious in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aHWCtsSAqLG7kco.html - Ian

I don't know if you'll be checking comments on a 2+ year old video, but, I'm itching to know what this other pocket I haven't seen mentioned in any of several videos etc. I've looked at is for. It's the skinny long one on the outside of the water bladder pocket on the right side, about 8 cm x 25 cm (3" x 10"). With those proportions, it would seem like it would be for some particular purpose, rather than just a general purpose pocket, but I can't for the life of me figure out what that might be.

No they do not, you need to buy the Accessory straps that were available in the campaign (but also through our web site). Thanks Ted.

I have used an amazing Dakine backpack for what might be around 15 years. It was the first one they ever created for photographers. I think I may have found its successor!

I think many of us had a Dakine Sequence bag from back then a some point. And they deserve the credit for instigating the shift to insert designs. With that said... I think you'll see quite a difference with a more modern approach.

Great video. I just received a Shimoda Action X50 for a Christmas gift. Great bag with so many features. There is a removable item that was stuffed in a pocket. It resembles a large face mask with nylon straps on each side. Can you please tell me what the intended use is for this item?

@shimoda design - any chance you could look at adapting the tensioned suspended mesh back panel from something like the Osprey Stratos 34 or Gregory Citro 30 into the X30 future series? I typically find the foam mesh back panels too hot/sweaty and have poor ventilation.

Hi, We make rear access camera bags. That style mesh doesn't work for what we do. Plus Action X Is built for action sports durability and the mesh doesn't lens well to what we had in mind with the series with regards to collecting snow and dirt. Ian

Fantastic design. If I want to go 3~5 days camp in rain jungle with Sony Fx3 + 200-600mm lens, and camp gear like hammock, sleeping pad, extra cloths.... will Action X50 fit + default core unit fit ?

Hi, it is a 50L pack, if you can accomplish your needs with a 50L bag then you should be OK. We all have different gear both camera and camping and we all have different thresholds that we can tolerate for camping so I can not say yes or no. Personally, I'd choose an X70.

Loving my x50 endlessly! One question though: will you relase this updated version of straps for women also? Thanks!

Hey, I was wondering if there is anyway to stop rain/mud/etc getting into the side pockets storage area when the side pocket is in use? From the videos it looks like the zipper will need to be left open so the side pocket (water bottle/tripod mesh one) can stay attached If not, any techniques to mitigate the potential of this happening?

I have yet to hear of mud getting in, or rain for that matter. The obvious would be to put the rain cover on but other than that solution, I don' think there is a problem to solve. Ian

How can I get the Action X 30 in India ? I already own the Explorer 40 (bought from B&H) and was looking to add this to my collection .

As an owner of an Action X30 V2 I honestly don't know why I would consider another brand. I'd only buy another bag if I needed more space. This bag is engineered with a level of detail and care that makes it a bargain at the price.

I can't speak for the PD product but our bags have an aluminum frame that can be removed if needed. Best to leave it in place but if you need to, you can remove it. The rear panel access does not fold... the rest of the bag can be rolled but of course it is not a 'packable' design (as defined by the outdoor market).

Will this bag be available through b&h sometime within the next year?

I would like to love this backpack and use it for my euro trip But it lack of anti theft feature and I can't add a padlock to lock the zip , my only concern

You can easily add a padlock to the zipper pulls.

My UK ordered X50 finally arrived in June but NOT to the amended address I emailed you when asked!! Caused problems as original office address had been closed due to Virus. Yes the Virus delayed my order and I don't blame Shimoda for that part but it was clearly evident almost straight away that the uptake on the Kickstarter was far above what was 'expected' (all the professionals reviewing obviously worked) so another order could have gone in almost immediately and faffing around with sorting out extras to go with orders rather than just sending out the basic orders people put in and doing the extras later caused more delay. I can see you just wanted to have orders closed rather than 'part complete' but not ideal for those of us who just wanted one of the 'standard' kits. Interesting to note that European orders were then pretty much put to the back of the queue. Don't get me wrong, camera bag looks good (although had to order a small core unit now as the medium isn't enough for some trips) and look forward to using it but I don't think I'll be interested in another Shimoda Kickstarter campaign as I thing (virus excepted) it wasn't handled well.

Hi Steve, I am sorry to hear your disappointment in our campaign and company. Unfortunately I do not recall your particular situation with the address and unable to look it up as I only know your YT handle. So I can only comment on the following... While from many end users perspective another order could have gone in right away... from those who need to pay for production that is not exactly the shared perspective. As you have recognized, we do not know what gear is actually bought until the all the surveys are in - which is well after the campaign ends. Even later does the actual KS finance portion arrive in our hands. Guessing and pre paying the unknown numbers would be very risky for a company who is not sitting on a mountain of resources. To highlight that - Coronavirus came along and basically shut down the entire photography industry (including sales, human resources and freight). As a brand with a lot of our business is based on non-essential travel, it should be clear why a company like Shimoda can not just randomly order goods without a calculated reason. I am not saying Coronavirus is responsible for the delay - but I am suggesting we can't just move money (we don't have) to the factory without an accurate understanding of what production qty is needed and where it will be distributed. While your solution would have resolved your order - it would not have the majority. An outside perspective may believe that is possible - (even my insider perspective thinks it should be...) it does not work and will potentially result in a lot of wasted financial resources and materials. We cannot take those kinds of risks. My goal was to let people buy the exact gear they wanted rather than be forced into a prepackaged kit that did not suit their individual needs. The amount of people building D.I.Y kits and add-ons appears to supported that. Over 60 components are sourced for each pack (with overlap) with lead times upto 2 months plus shipping, there are relationship that are attached to all those parts that also are being being impacted by the global situation, predicting those numbers and managing the goods is not a simple process. The most obscure incidents can affect production. As we mentioned via updates, we forecasted for around 500 backers (based on our 380 previously). We had over 1700 with many of those being D.I.Y kits. While backers may never understand - it wasn't possible to meet the extra demand by the expected date. Again, we apologize for the delays and negative experience you have encountered. Kickstarter comes with risks, it's not an established retail shop. The EU were not put to the back of the line, I not sure where that comment comes from. Regards - Ian *Please excuse any typos

@@ShimodaDesigns Hi, well it seemed you had supplied every other region to me from the updates before the EU got a look in. The USA got their units months earlier. As soon as you had collected the Kickstarter money another order could have gone in. Anyway, I know I'm only a single case and it makes no difference in the big picture what issues I had as I'm sure you most others had a better experience. I'm grateful you took the time for a comprehensive reply rather than something brief so credit for that. I hope over the next few years using the X50 will let the Kickstarter experience fade in my memory.

Hi Steve, it takes longer to get ocean freight in to the EU. I do not recall any departure delays but that could have also factor in. The EU has 2 weeks more time with ocean freight. We also use a 3rd party logistics manager which (pre Corona) also takes more time than our 'own' warehouse in the US. Now a days the US takes longer processing due to minimal staff. We pre ordered goods based on our previous KS campaign, and we did not expect as many EU customers to back the project. It was was a much lower percent, so there was not as great a qty as the US. - Ian

Website says August but in Japan where I live amazon.jp says they have the green X30 in stock. Should I buy? Is that real. Why does amazon have some if they aren't released? I WANT THIS BAG!

I should add Yodobashi sells Shimoda as well - both online and in store, I've only seen it first hand in Shinjuku and Akihabara... but have be told some other bigger locations also carry it.
