Ok, this is not only a great idea for a video (to compare Korea and Hollywood), but this is SO WELL DONE that I need to say THANKS to the people who put this together! I have trouble finishing an email! To edit, do plot summaries, and give info as to where to watch....great, great job! I've seen about half of these movies, and there's no question that South Korea has a fantastic film industry. With the world mostly under quarantine, movies like these can be good distraction. Better days are coming everybody, someday we'll have a stroll along the Han river and look for the monster from "The Host". Stay safe.

Montage starring Uhm Jung Hwa. It has to be one of the best I've ever seen. It's available on Amazon. Free if you have a Prime account. Plot: A kidnapping from 7 years earlier. The statute of limitations runs out in less than 2 weeks when a clue is found. Then another kidnapping with the same MO (modus operandi). A plot twist you don't see coming and an ending that rinds your heart.

Not only that. Hollywood movies emotional touch tends to be way to cliche. Like in every zombie movie for example, there are always those lovebirds with the typical salvation in the last moment that leads to one death or a happy ever after. Its so boring at this point, i would rather be impressed that they would remove the lovebirds idea rather than improving it

@@baphithi Don't you think watching films in different languages give them distinct personalities. Some movies I cannot imagine becoming made in another language [See: OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies] that movie has to be french in my mind. For Korean stuffs I couldn't imagine "Welcome to Waikiki" being made in another language besides Korean. I suppose action stuffs would be good if they made in them in English like the kdrama "Healer". The movie Peninsula tried to splash in some English maladroitly. I definitely see an effectiveness when English is used in action films though. Methinks Cantonese, Russian, and German -- also make great languages for action films. P.S. I'm totally talking through my hat -- I hope you get the gist of this message though -- I hope I'm making a smidgen of sense here.

Highly generalized statement here. You can say at its best Korean movies might seem like that, in which case i would suggest to not go for the loudest, meaning most marketed Hollywood movies but beyond that. Hollywood in is entirety far surpasses both in quality and quantity Korean film industry, obviously in the past, but even now.

Of course Hollywood is not the only movie industry in the world, but it's probably the one that gets exported the most. I'd like to watch Bollywood movies or movies from other countries, but they're hard to come by :( This is also because there are very few people who translate them. I did watch Chinese, Japanese, Thai movies that had English translations. But I doubt that movies from those countries will make it on the big movie screen where I live. Hollywood movies on the other hand, they are 100% sure to be shown (of course, I refer mostly to the pre-virus times, as I don't know how things will evolve. Right now, theatres/cinemas are closed here). Not even movies from the neighboring countries were shown. I'm pretty sure that this was the context of this video, and not that "Hollywood is the only movie industry in the world".

“Parasite” is the last movie I saw in a theater. Absolutely loved it. Bong is a great director. It’s a movie so rich in detail it’s worth viewing several times. The characters and setting are specific, but the story is universal. It’s awards and acclaim are well deserved. “Train to Busan” is the only zombie movie I have enjoyed in years. I have been Korean drama fans for years, since accidentally stumbling upon the sci-fi series “My Love from the Star”. I was gob smacked, nothing on American TV prepared me for it. I continued my journey in Korean drama and found another favorite “The Scholar Who Walks at Night”. It opens with a high dolly shot than pans down to a close up to the face of the vampire villain of the series. That sequence and lightning was golden age Hollywood technique at its best! No American TV is created with those production values. I tell my friends reading the English subtitles is a very small price to pay for excellent entertainment.

If you’re willing to watch more romantic/love focused movies, I recommend everyone 지금 만나러 갑니다 (Be With You) and 번지점프를 하다 (Bungee Jumping of Their Own). The second one is one KZread w/o subtitles but the plot is fairly simple so I didn’t have any problem :)

I accidentally came across them in March his year, via a corona virus clip some American had made claiming that it was from a Chinese movie. He said it was on Netflix and gave the name and which minute to look for. I looked it up, and it turned out to be My Secret Terrius, which I enjoyed so much that my American selection on my Netflix list remains unwatched to this day. Can’t watch anything else. Doesn’t compare. I’m from a country called South Africa.

hot scenes are not even needed to most movies except if the concept is about sex, and the Korean movie industry did that so well, even in their drama's you will never see any nudity or wild kissing scenes at most you'll see a smack of one or 2 and that's it
