'11 Honda Pilot - Front Lower Control Arms
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video McCoy and I swap out the front lower control arms on a 2011 Honda Pilot. The rear bushings in the lower arm were shot but with 200k on them we opted to swap out the entire arm with the ball joint.
-Enjoy!

I do wish McCoy started the habit of ear and eye protection. He’s young still.
Thirty years from now, McCoy will be trying to break a nut free and will utter "Mother of Pearl!" Eric's legacy will be secure.

My comment as well. There was a lot more to it than power-tools and impacts, but had I known! I used plugs for the drive through car wash and vacuum station today. Never stops, only varies in intensity and sometimes shape.

As a framer/carpenter of over 30 years, 1000% on hearing protection. Your older self will be immensely grateful to your younger self for sticking some foam plugs in your ears…..Why doesn’t somebody answer that dang phone!? 🔔🔔🔔
Note at the 1:44 mark how Eric rotates the drive axle as he starts the second cut so the boot does not overheat and possible get damaged. That's a PRO move there folks! :)
Dad mode activated: Eric, you’re welcome to risk your eyes and destroy your ears but please consider the example you’re setting for McCoy. Hearing damage is cumulative, and he’s only a kid. Please don’t get me wrong - I have massive respect for you and your mind, work ethic, and willingness to share your knowledge. ❤

The other day he said Josh is still with him. Eric is the kind of employer who treats employees well and therefore retains them. I’d take a wild guess that when Eric retires that Josh would be the next proprietor of the shop.

Wow. 2 video's in a row where ole Vic makes an appearance in the first few minutes! Such fun!
I found that Moog’s control arms with pre-installed ball joints were only a tad more expensive than the ball joint alone. Made life a whole lot easier than having to deal with a ball joint press and a very stubborn joint. Just replace the whole control arm.

Ol McCoy chewing that gum like Jordan in the 4th quarter... nice work young fella! Keep those old farts happy.
Man, knowing what I know NOW, I'd of PAID big $$$ to be mentored by Eric. Even now at my semi-advanced age I learn something new from every video. McCoy, you are truly blessed, brother.

McCoy is a classic mechanic's name, he'll go far.
All y'all worried about the PPE must be new. You know he let Mccoy work without it to tick you off. And it worked!
As rusty as that chassis was, Josh probably had his hands full getting it aligned. It’s amazing what you guys do to get bolts loosened and removed! Your touch skills are amazing.
I come here for the how-to but I stay for the torch, lol. awesome video as always.

You should try getting at the front sway bar bushings bolts on a first gen Pilot. Or even worse, the rear sway bar.
ive not had much luck with moog since they went over sea whne they where made in the usa i had no issuse
I stopped using moog ball joints years ago for the same reason you described as NAPA. Like everything, used to be good but now junk

Blow torch - the ultimate precision tool, for the discerning mechanic :-) Great job, Eric!
McCoy’s gotta learn to either put on PPE or engage safety squints. His face that close…I was cringing the whole time. He’s learning from one of the best, let’s keep him safe. I’m so impressed by Astro. The half sized sockets are genius and the fact that E did not break that swivel putting that kind of weird angle torque…Love it! Luv me sum SMA video ❤
Hammered a bunch of chrome sockets over the years…lol that sway bar bolt was ridiculous
We all come for the torch.
Teach McCoy to wear safety glasses! Nice job Mr. O. The torch for the win! My Dad used it a lot in his shop. Hopefully the Hondoo will last a lot longer. It looked pretty good underneath.

As a dude that suffers from Tinnitus - please have ya boy McCoy get in the habit of using ear/eye protection when using the ugga-dugga gun and other loud tools. His mental health and vision will appreciate it 30 years from now. I wouldn't wish it on my enemy never mind my apprentice.
Glad to see and hear you’re still blazing narrow trails. God continues to bless your efforts
These guys got it under control!
Your sidekick is one lucky guy, learning with the master.
I always had good luck with Moog suspension parts back in the day when I had a shop. Great video.
Old Vic and Eric are like an old married couple. Sparks go flying but they still love each other. Almost brings a tear to the eye!
It's almost getting to be the weather where that guy drives by and honks everyday. Hey that guy
I'll swear in court they were torqued to spec. I heard the beep! 😊 Thanks as always, Eric!
Funny enough I just had the control arm bushings replaced on my 2011 pilot 3 days ago. Great timing! haha
Might seem like a small issue but I would like to see Mcoy wearing protective eyewear. Nice
Thanks for sharing!
Pleasure to watch you with the torch ☺️
Thanks for the video Guys.
That McCoy is a real Handy Dandy! Thanks Yall!

It's a shame how these "NEWER" cars have become so disposable !!!! And so are most of the new parts for them. I'm trying to keep my older cars running as long as I can. I wish there were more guy's like Eric around to keep them running. Nobody wants to do the kind of work that you do buddy ! Looks like you have a great helper in this video . Keep on truckin Eric & McCoy.

What's "disposable" about this Pilot? It has 200K miles of living in the salt of NYC and just now getting ball joints/lower control arms replaced. That's a pretty good life and I'd like you to suggest a make/model/year SUV that doesn't need at a minimum ball joint replacement at 200K...
Classic. Bones and the Captain repair the Pilot ship before the orbit decays..😂🇨🇦
Always glad to see a good ole torch video . Eric is a master
Thank you for another great video. Cheers
Wow, the apprentice gets to use the big ugga dugga in your shop? Cool. The owner of the tire shop I worked at as a kid made newbies use the tire irons to change tires for a month before you could use the machines.
Another great video. You should be on TV.
Good morning Eric and Mrs O!
As always another informative video.
Hey Eric, seems pretty nice you having a helper.
those astro half size sockets are brilliant.
Great job Eric, you make it seem easy!
Monday morning watching SMA with the flame wrench! What a start to the week! If your hands are not dirty then you have not done any work? The Force is strong with the young apprentice! Keep up with the teaching Obi Wan……

Great job teaching the young man! Don’t forget eye protection guys… stay safe!

Eric, Great video - thank you. The way you decribed how the vehicle would pull left/right and that the customer didnt complain about it is hilarious. Paul (in MA) ps mother is half a word
Good job, Eri. Hope you have good luck with the Moog parts, I just put everything on My Truck last summer with moog parts. Thanks for the video work
Mccoy has no idea how lucky he is to have such a great mentor. I'm a master tech 18 years in the trade and owe a great deal of my hands on knowledge to the tech that mentored me early in my career. Thanks Tommy D and I'm doing my best to pass on the knowledge to the next generation.
Did this same job last week for the same issue, soon it will be time to teach your apprentice some torch time 😊
I have that same vehicle. It's a great SUV. Put a VCM muzzler on it
That kid should have hearing protection.
Nice job
McCoy is doing so good soon Eric O will be doing these from Florida via Zoom with McCoy in NY and his comments. Way to be!
Your lucky to have good help EricO.
It's nice to have an extra pair of hands. ❤❤
nice job Bones. glad to see you sticking with it. and to Mr. Eric O thank you for willing to do O T J T!
Agreed. Moog has been around for decades however, companies we've known as old timers do and have been outsourcing their parts to outside places like China without lowering prices nor informing the old time loyal customers of those changes ! Although, Moog has been a step above we believe to this day. Again...no collateral damage to the customers vehicle as it should be in all repairs.
McCoy should start his own channel, from his view point. Oh what a treat that would be.
Love the control arm tool. I use an OTC 6007. Works pretty good.
That McCoy guy looks like a hard worker. Step back and let him do some more while you teach, moderate, and supervise!
MOOG in the UK use to be my go to for an inbetween cheap and OEM and never had any problems, these days i have nothing but problems with ball joints / track rod ends and drop links lasting 6 months then need replacing again. ive stopped using them unless its the only brand that has that item i need in stock
I’ve always had good luck with moog!
I've been happy with my Moog purchases.
You go, Bones!!! Nice to see you working with Eric. You are learning from the master for sure. Hopefully we will be watching you in lots of future videos. Get some PPE on is my only advice for you.
Amazed they lasted so long. Their engine mounts are also regular replacement items.
Don't be shocked as to how smooth it rides with ya struttin round da hood in a Hondu wrapped up in those new arms! 💯🗽🇺🇸
Moog was pretty good back in the 70's-80's.
Eric O i did this on my wifes Hondu last year, what a PITA!!! that top bolt sucked bad lol. then the sleeves on the knuckle were like kryptonite
Awesome
Not to mention moogs top of the line grease fitting engineering. One day the moog rep came into our shop and we bet him he could not install a grease fitting in a ball joint he had on the truck and he physically could not 😂
I think it's great how you let the young kids play with your toys.
I would have loved to have you as a father teaching me all the things you need to know in the area where you live.... All that rust. I hope your legacy will live on. Your father would be as proud of you as I bet your are off McCoy!
Lots of rust, you're great with the torch
