    Can the dogs hurt other NPCs besides Kafei? I wonder if this works because you can play as Kafei in his sidequest, requiring him to have damage states which other characters don't need.

    As far as I recall, Kafei doesn't actually ever see combat, he's just in the puzzle rooms for that sidequest. Most likely Kafei taking damage is simply because they copied Link's code onto him and only made slight alterations, letting him inherit game interactions that no other NPC does.

    Huh. I concider myself a huge Majora's Mask fan, but i legit didn't know Link was waving in the intro movie. Also, the reason Kafei has a knockdown animation is because you control him during the Kafei and Anju quest. You can also knock him down with bombs, bombchus, or the blast mask.

    Link abusing i-frame rolls really reminds you how formative these games were in so many ways. In combat, they innovated by creating not only their Z-targeting systems, but also with, well, dodge roll mechanics. It's one of those moments where I'm reminded of the old chestnut/elevator pitch: _"Dark Souls is a darker, harder Zelda"_

  • @Jotari

    @Jotari

    2 жыл бұрын

    Rolling in combat isn't that useful though. There's a reason why its invincibility is obscure. Pretty much all combat is going to involve Z Targeting, and while Z Targeting you don't perform a roll by pressing the A button, you do a jump attack. To perform a roll you'd need to put away your sword (which requires you stop Z Targeting). Hench it's completely impractical as a defensive move against an enemy unless you're deliberately making things harder by not Z Targeting. The only practical use for rolling invincibility frames would be to get around obstacles like blade traps.

At best you can roll to avoid damage from stuff like Leevers chasing you that you have no interest in fighting any way.

    Oh my gosh! For YEARS I thought I was the only one who noticed the "pseudo-Triforce" formed by the spotlights at the start of the game! It ignited so much curiosity in me as a kid, but never seeing anyone else talk about it at all, I convinced myself I was seeing something that wasn't there. It's nice to find somebody else who caught it and found it interesting too.

    I just finished the game again and noticed a few things. If you become cursed by a blue bubble and then play the song of storms, the curse will be lifted! Also on the top of the Stock Pot Inn, if you curl up as a goron while touching the bell, the bell will continually be deflected. Love these videos and the hard work you put into them, thank you! :)

  • @Timmir00

    @Timmir00

    I believe you can do the same in OoT to cure the curse. The main difference however is that in MM the Song of Storms explicitly has the ability to dispel curses, so there is a connection there for a player to try using Song of Storms in that situation.

It's rather dark but funny that you can blow up Sakon on the final 3 day cycle before fighting Majora's Mask and permanently kill him. I'm pretty sure he's not in any ending cutscenes.

    Because Kafei is programmed to be controllable by the player, albeit very briefly during the treasure sequence, he’s the only NPC to have damaged animations and hurtboxes. These are never turned off outside the puzzle room, which is why things that can hurt Link, can also hurt Kafei.

    Strange, you’d think the Clock Town guard hanging around the North Gate would either react to Sakon “appropriating” the Old Lady’s luggage or to Link committing capital murder by using anything other than the sword to make Sakon drop his loot, but that dude’s apparently really dedicated to his job of guarding the gate and not much else, methinks. 😏

    I imagine the Kafei thing is because he's actually just a reskinned Link model, which would have been the easiest way to make an NPC who the player gets to control at one point. I'd actually like to play around and see if he's vulnerable to other things Link is, like bombs.
