When the Seiko SKX is often mentioned as an affordable icon, its contemporary the Citizen "Lefty" diver is usually ignored. I think it deserves a mention especially as it served as the official dive watch of the Italian Navy for a time straight out of the box. Citizen have uprated the watch recently with a considerable price hike but NOS originals are still around for $200. NOS SKXs are through the roof!!

Especially since the SKX has doubled (at least) in value. It was a value at retail price, but I think now it’s surpassed by some of the Seiko 5 Sports line’s releases.

I can still find tons of SKX's going for sub 200 bucks on auction. Still not worth it tho. Id rather spend 100 bucks more and get something like a Orient Neptune
@BAF605

@@HRM.H Maybe heavily used examples but NOS?? Here in UK NOS items are £500. I agree about worth though that's why I mentioned the Citizen lefty which can still be had under £200 and was always a better watch in my opinion.

@@BAF605 no even super clean examples for sub 200 bucks. the problem is that you are trying to buy them in the UK. Buy them straight from japan and save yourself the cost of a scalper/middleman.. even after paying import tax and shipping its usually still much cheaper to import a Seiko watch. Only the modern GS models are about the same price in Japan as here in the west.

@@HRM.H Please give me links. I deal in watches. I can make £100 at least on every NOS SKX I can find around £300 imported. I don't want them for myself I want to sell!!
It's always good to hear your thoughts Oleg. I have a few of the watches that you mention. The Casio-Royal is without a doubt a brilliant watch , comfortable and easy to read on my wrist. I also have a slightly different case version of that original. My Seiko G757-4010 and it still works although the buttons have gone spongy, not too bad after ~40 years! The Hamilton field mechanical 38mm just oozes tool watch and I'm very pleased with mine. Everyone should have a Casio calculator watch of some description, the basic calculator is crazy value, the data bank has a better display and a backlight but doesn't cost that much more if you catch it on the right day on places like Amazon but the prices vary a lot. My solar G-Shock 5610 is definitely a keeper, very rugged, easy to read and accurate with the multi band 6, there is a later 5610U that has a led backlight in place of the electro luminescent one along with other slight differences in the display function and settings.
Nice list. You are right about the Apple watch. Bought one when they first came out, realized how much I missed wearing a watch and now I have a nice little collection of mechanical and quartz watches. You made me realize again how much I want a Mondaine and a Pogue.

I was the same, but with a Samsung Galaxy watch. Started to realise that the tiny AMOLED screen could never replace the beauty and soul of an actual watch dial, hence why I started collecting mechanical and quartz watches in 2021. I've got a few decent ones now, like the PRX and the Lunar Pilot, but also some of the legendary Casios. Despite the convenience of having a watch on your wrist that could actually display notifications or control your phone's music, I would NEVER wear a smartwatch again!
Hamilton Khaki Auto 38, has gone from 475 on strap 525 on bracelet to 675 on strap and 725 on bracelet. However, Jomashop has the strap versions for 440.00-475.00 depending on which color strap you want. If you have a 7 in wrist or below, then there’s no other watch that I would recommend for around $500 US dollars, but it looks like that won’t be under $500 (if you can find it for that price) for much longer, so if you’re on the fence, you better act quickly!
A Pogue under 500$ ?? I don’t think so. Those times are long gone

I was waiting for Oleg to mention the Pogue frankenwatches. So, yes , caveat emptor if buying a Pogue fir $500. Russell - the Mad Watch Collector-has a clip of his nightmare. Apropos, in Irish Gaelic, ' pogue ' means, 'kiss'.

That Mondaine is an absolute gem!! Love your videos!
Man you are a legend! Got the content going after 10 seconds from the start of the video. Yes, I subscribed.
Thanks for this list. It's a good starting point.
Think the Tissot PRX has earned its icon status. Instantly recognizable & affordable.

Prefer the powermatic which is above budget but yeah it's an awesome watch
Informative and entertaining, thank you.
Depending where you live the Timex Giorgio Galli S1 is pretty good for around 500$. I'd wear that proudly it's a significant design improvement for Timex, they'll probably be worth collecting.
Maybe an addition of an iconic watch could have been one of the OG pilot watches, the flieger or fliegeruhr with their A and B dials for pilots and navigators, that have so many watches inspired to them today. And of the original 5 manufacturers (A Lange & Sohne, IWC, Laco, Stowa, and Wempe) Laco has a line of models under $ 500.
Nice one regarding the SKX I own the 007 iconic.
Great tips. Thank you!
I'm surprised Seiko hasn't cashed in on the moon/space watch train by reissuing the Pogue 🤔
Thank you for using the word "affordable" more accurately than many other videos about "affordable" watches
Nice video. I would have included the orient bambino and the Casio Marlin
The Seiko Pogue was sold last year, to Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn
Great video brother and hello Mr. Bond ❤
The Timex Ironman was THE watch when I was a kid too, the glow was too good.
Really enjoyed this one ☝🏻
great video, how about the Seagull/Seakoss?
Yes agree with your choices. I have an SKX009, a King Turtle dark manta, gshock square solar, Khaki mechanical polar. Maybe a Casio F-91w could have made the list

I have skx007J, SKX007K, SKX009J, 2 Sumo Hulk Sumo, Dark Manta Ray King Turtle, Black Chocolate Waffle King Samurai, Baby Tuna Urban Safari, Monster Penguin. I recently purchased the FC Barcelona Seiko 5 LE because I worked in FIFA 2022, and now waiting for the MM200 Night Vision Solar. Watch I will add as a collector will be 62 MAS variant, Shogun, SLA aside from complete line up of SKx from 01 to 55(watch collecting goal). My Grail watch will be a submariner from the only watch brand worthy to be crowned 👑 . ✌️
Excellent list. I agree and actually own most watches on this list. Great icons.
you said youd made a video on how to buy watches off ebay and the like safely. And that you would link it in the description? I cant find the link in the description?
Cool list 🤙🏽
Nice list,
Awesome tattoo! Love my certina ds 38mm
Cool shout out to Jocko. Nice list as well.
I just ordered the G-Shock 5610 yesterday! It looks like a great one to wear daily.
That is a pretty good list, and I'm willing to be most of us watching this likely has half a dozen of the watches you mentioned.
The Seiko sumo for me- owned a few in different colours and always sell them as I know I can get another (I don’t tend to keep watches unless they’re special - like my Reverso or vintage omega) but now with the more expensive sumos coming out I will hang on to my latest Pepsi sumo as I think they present the best bang for buck in Seikos range at the moment (whilst you still can get them for around £/€300-400)
I have one of those original seiko turtles i inherited from my grandpa that was all beaten up… I put a pogue style H bracelet, i put a new pepsi bezel, a sapphire Crystal, I repaired the bezel action with a pen’s ball and the spring from a pusher and got the movement running back again. Needless to say that this watch is very special to me! It’s not original anymore but it’s never going away and I love it like that. I’ve had a few comments from none watch guy asking me what that was… a rolex or something?? No lol.
An excellent video Oleg. Yeah on board with most of your choices there, except perhaps the Hamilton which is just a personal dislike of mine. Casio Dura could of been there and the Orient Bambino and Kamasu perhaps. The Apple Watch did indeed deserve a mention because like you said it gets people into watches in general. Only reason I don’t have one is that I might like it too much, then not wear the collection as frequently, as I own several other Apple products. First world problems eh? 😅
Great video….I like your channel…very well done.
I've owned an ORIS for 20+ years, and I'm about to get my first micro-brand watches. Currently wearing a G-shock square face.
what are your thoughts on a seiko bellmatic 4006-7012, would you be interested in doing a review on my watch?
Where do o buy these watches ?
Hey, man. Nice video. Do you know any ICONIC dress watches for under $500, or under $1000?
Seiko Flighty needs to be on this list
I wear my Casio G Shock 5610u the most also. The just work. I also have apple and Tissot , seiko and so on. But the daily go to, is the GShock Square
Love the Seiko turtle or even the King turtle.
Not sure where he got size and price of the Lunar Pilot. The first virsion runs 45mm and was going for $350 - $500 depending on package. The smaller 43mm was going for over $1000.
My Seiko 6139-6005 never went to the moon or outer space. My dad bought it in 1971 and it went right on his wrist. Now at 55, it’s frequently on mine. Maybe in another 52 years it will be on my grandsons wrist and still keeping perfect time.
What about the Seiko Arnie?
Great video! Thank you. I would add the Seiko "Arnie" to the list. Great (Dive) watch!!!! Plus Arnold Schwarzeengegger worn it in five films making it a classic.
I need to get another G-shock square. I have the negative display and I don't like the fact it's hard to read.
I have the Bulova "moon" watch, blacked out as you have shown. Love that big thing even though I have a smaller wrist. The Seiko "space" watch is my favorite from this list. I would love to have one in good working order. I never understood the attraction to Hamilton Khaki as it looks like a cheap, child's 1st watch. Hamilton makes so much better watches. I bought the Casio "Casio Royale" and am surprised how ofter I wear it. Even take it to Europe for a month at a time and the time zones are so useful. My G-Shock square came broken out of the box... So much for their toughness.
I don’t understand why Seiko doesn’t come out with the SKX upgraded with a 4R36 and sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel. It’s suck a perfect watch I think it would sell well.
You missed out on "Citizen Promaster BN0085"..The dive watch which can survive a 300m depthcharge..!
I fancy the slightly smaller Lunar Pilot. I absolutely agree with the SKX, I love mine.

Can't seem to find the 43mm all that I am able to find is the 45mm
I inherited an original Pogue from my dad who won it in a sales contest in early seventies. He threw it in a drawer for 40 years. After servicing its mint
Unfortunately hamilton field khaki increased in price at February and now over 500$
Congratulations on your 60k views in only seven days 🎉
The Lunar Pilot is not a homage, it was built to the NASA Specs at the same time as the Omega, that's why they look similar.

While I'm not a fan of the Apple watch, it is most definitely an icon, and it's the rarest type of icon -- the instant icon. This watch achieved iconic status within months of its introduction and now is absolutely ubiquitous. Good call.
Just bought the impossible mission square type Casio which I think will be collectable. It's cool looking. 😎
Great video. Interesting mention of AppleWatch and nothing from SWATCH? Those pictures look like the Rhineland!
I would add you can get a Hamilton Khaki Navy scuba for like 550 Now. ( The 100m in house movement version)
Timex Ironman was my childhood watch 🥰

You must have been one of the cool kids because it was my watch too
I've got 2 data banks, green and a gold colored one, a square faced g-shock, and a gold turtle so I guess I'm doing alright lol.
I have a similar list that starts abd ends with SKX
I live in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The local municipal airport here is named after William Pogue. I didn’t know he was associated with an iconic watch.
I still own my Timex Ironman Triathlon - mine's the iconic Bill Clinton version! I love it still!
Unfortunately you cant buy an SKX at good retail price now since they were discontinued
A good Pogue is around the 1000 mark and beyond.
I would include some king Seiko, them watches were made to compete with the very best of anything back in the day, which is half a century or more and were they made by Rolex or Patek they would cost at least 10x the cost.
Don't think you can get a legitimate Seiko Pogue for less than $700. These days, it's common to see them $700-1,000+.

I think the "challenge" is to accept that the original will be 1000 plus and the "frankenstein" with a new dial with no corrosion and lume that has not degraded away and hands .............. etc will be less. Its a bit like where do you stand on boob implants !!!!!!

I recently purchased an Aussie Pogue that's in great shape and all original for around $1200.
Great list, except for Apple watch because it's obsolete after a couple of years and you need another one. It's no heirloom. You're only going to pass it on to your recycling bin. I have a few of the others including the Royale. I travel from Istanbul to South East Asia, Philippines, Indonesia etc on business and is by far the best world time watch. Forget automatic GMT's they can't compete. Plus it's rare that you are asked to take it off going through the airport scanner. It doesn't register. I have a soft spot for the Pogue. My late dad had one, he loved it. He was a bit of an adventurer and always talked about how he lost it down a crevasse while climbing Fox Glacier in New Zealand. He had promised it to me! I'm always on the lookout for a pristine one, and have a couple of possibilities, but there is a frankenwatch problem with the Pogue. Excellent and enjoyable video. Thanks!

It's a great list because it has the Apple watch. It's the first time I've seen it come up on a YT watch channel. It's not for me, but how can everyone else ignore the best selling watch? The first model will be valuable in the same way the first NIB iPhone just sold for a bajillion dollars, but other than that you're probably right. However, instead of passing your Apple watch to your progeny, you'll buy them one of their own. One great thing about the Apple watch is that you can personalize it by adding a strap of your choice from just about anywhere because it is so popular. If I want a purple snakeskin strap there are plenty of people out there who can make it for me if it's not available off the rack. That level of personalization is a great feature, not enough to make me buy one, but it's a great feature nonetheless. It's designed to be a one watch collection and is for many people. One day people may view the Apple watch as the gateway watch that brought them into collecting the same way the SKX is viewed now.
I know I'm a Восток fanboy but I would put them on the list as the affordable, quirky, and history certainly makes Восток Амфцбця an icon. Great video!

What happened to the Timex that Was Sold with a Little Hammer Hitting It On the Side In a Small Filled Water Aquarium 24/7????? THANK YOU!!!!!

I had expected to see the Mako/Ray and Bambino, but I suppose that these are more recent in the market... not as iconic as the design languages from 50 years ago.

Loved the Lunar Pilot until I found out the battery usually lasts 18 moths.
Two of my personal favorite sub 500 euro watches are the Khaki Field 9721B (36mm) and Khaki Sub 9747A. (39mm) The 9721B is a unique looking khaki field among the bunch, with more curved lugs and a 36mm diameter. The 9747A is a PVD coated 38.6mm diameter divewatch, specially made for the 1st airborn special forces. Both watches are unique in their own way. As far as with the pogue, for sub 500 bucks you will be most likely be buying a redial or modded example. The pogue is one of the most faked watches in the world...

The apple watch indeed gets people into traditional watches like myself. After 6years of wearing Samsung and Apple watches I've had it, got tired of them, charging every night or getting your watch run out of battery on you in the middle of the day. Plus I want watches to be MY accessory not MY PHONES accessory. I learned the long way that the last thing I want in my life is my watch giving me notifications all day long.
Khaki Field is too big for my 6in wrist :(
I have a Apple Watch on my right side and a mechanical on my left. The apple is my I’ve fallen and can’t get back up watch.(It has called 911 more than once.) My watch on my left side is Nomos(a treasured piece of Bauhaus art.)
Ha ha ha "some of you might of been alive around this time!" Some of us were around in the 70s!!🤪
Seiko Cocktail time ... Seiko Flightmaster or Citizen Nighthawk.
i thought g shock made you look tough. need one of them turtles. 😂😂
Hey, that’s that’s my house at 13:00!
Have all of these iconic watches except two…Don’t have a Seiko Turtle or an Apple watch. Have several other iconic Seiko but don’t like the case shape of the Turtle. Do have a mini-Turtle as it has an irresistible yellow dial and 9-o’clock crown. And despite being a longtime stockholder of Apple stock, and my wife and kids having Apple Watches, I don’t, as I have plenty of conventional watches to wear and an iPhone in my pocket, don’t need or want an Apple Watch. BTW my Mondaine is a mechanical automatic with a Sellita movement not the quartz version.
Seiko SKX used to be a cheap throwaway watch but the price has jumped suddenly over the past couple years and now it’s 3x the old price. With its plastic parts and quality control issue potential, it’s no longer worth it, imho.
Always remember design/style is subjective.
Some of you might have been around at that time ( 80s ) . I was ! LOL
Who ever broke a wrist because of a steel band!? The weakest part of a steel band is the small spring that sits 2-3mm inside a small hole. That is the 'fuse' (the 'breaker') that fails long before the bone in your wrist will.
I actually think the apple watch is nice looking. If they ever sell it as a stand alone item, I'm in. But right now, it has to be paired with an iPhone, and so it's a no go for me.
You had me up until the wrist computer ;-)
Hamilton is a Tank!....I run large chainsaws and chop firewood all day.....and I cannot believe my Field King still runs. The vibrations are So bad, it's bouncing on my wrist for hours sometimes, LOL. The band is almost destroyed from daily wear.....this thing has been to hell and back. I was thinking about getting another brand, but I'm honestly So fucking impressed with Hamilton.
Casio F-91W.
Imagine if GS remade the Pogue
Bulova Lunar Pilot hasn't been $250-300 for years. It is more like $400. Not sure where you came up with those numbers.
