10LB Copper Melt Down - Making Copper Skull Bars - Melting Copper Scrap Metal - The Growing Stack

Ойын-сауық

I haven't melted any copper in a while so I pulled out some scrap pieces my good friend gave me. It was 10lbs of copper that was really fun to melt and make some custom TheGrowingStack copper skull bars. I hope you have as much fun watching this video as I did making it!

I'm not sure but either way like I said I'll still watch ya anyway so do what you like I'm just some random guy

    This is my favorite type of item I'd seen cast, and you're the only one I've seen who's done it. Initially it made me wonder about the look that could be achieved by casting an item or logo or whatever in brass first and then enrobing it in copper like you have here or in aluminum. I've observed that copper at pouring temp is relatively more flowy and less viscous than aluminum so not sure how that might turn out, but would love to find out

    Copper looks damn good when its melted and being poured. Its shiny. Also you should make a set of skulls in copper, aluminum, and Nordic Gold.

    I love when you pour a bar around the skull like that. I thought it was so cool the first time you did it. No one else I have watched has ever done such a thing. I like how you experiment with the metal. That's the best thing to me. It's so fun. That's what I would do. Another great episode! ☺️

    Hello from Chicago. I started melting about 10 years ago and just about everything I saw in your videos I have done one way or another. Including my face and lost foam casting. As well as green sand. Just want to let you know I do it the old school way with a wood burning cast iron chimaria. And forced air to build up the heat. I really enjoy your channel and I am definitely going to be a subscriber for life

    What do you suppose would happen if you use a copper skull with a lighter (in weight) metal? I think the skulls floated up, and that's what messed up the surface

  • @TheGrowingStack

    @TheGrowingStack

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@caseywood9781 I think with a lighter metal, the skull would stay down, it didn’t float too much within the copper, but the bulges that formed kind of puzzled me.

  • @caseywood9781

    Maybe a shallower ingot, like the small flat bar. It might keep it from floating if there's not so much in it. Even steal float on molten metal

    @TheGrowingStack Sweet skull bars, came out looking good. The lumps was probably just some of the molten copper trying to float the skulls and only Slightly managed to do so. I think I might've figured out Why it's taking so long along with being so difficult for me to get my copper to melt. From paying even closer attention, more than I ever have or probably should, to the details of your melt.....it seems I probably have too much empty space in my 10kg furnace so I'm probably losing too much of my heat. I'm going to break out and dust off my homemade furnace again and try a melt in it, it has far less empty space (to the point where a 6kg crucible Barely fits) and try a copper melt in it...see how well that turns out. Hopefully I'm right and I'll be able to do the copper melt with next to no difficulty whatsoever. I'll let you know the next time you post a vid....provided I can catch a break from this rain we've been getting....no garage for me so I have to do it out in the open....lol. (edited to make a correction/add info)

    Thank you my friend! I was really happy with how they turned out. I’ve tried it with zinc and aluminum bronze in the past. The zinc, well, that made a mess, as you can imagine. The aluminum bronze worked out nicely. I did that in my tree of love bars video. I actually gave that one away to an awesome viewer such as yourself so it’s not on the stack anymore. I’ll be careful I promise. So good to hear from you! 👍
