What in the world... Bill picked an ABUS with a Jackknife set! Also, that is a PRICELESS thing to carry with you when you have tools on you. If you run into potential issues, if you have the laws printed to reference to, that could be what saves you if you aren't doing anything wrong related to your tools.

Great job spreading knowledge about the AUS lockpicking laws guide! After extensive searching it's the ONLY document I know of that compiles all AUS state & territory laws on the subject. Hats off to pickpals for putting it together & making it available for FREE & thanks again Bill for giving it a plug in your video. In my experience, the vast majority of Australian locksport enthusiasts I know of get a most of their info from you & your website, so featuring it in you video should give it a lot of exposure. Once again doing what you can to help the (relatively) small Aussie locksport scene grow from half a world away! As far as I'm concerned you're an honorary Aussie Bill! ...as long as you pronounce it "Ozzie" ;)

I ordered one of those tensioners, because as a left handed picker it's freaking impossible to find a tension tool that works well when you hold it in your right hand, so I look forward to seeing how it works.

  • @BuckFitches
    @BuckFitches2 жыл бұрын

the 2 screws that are supposed to hold the tool in place are the last rubbish ...... you can tighten the pipe wrench, and the pick still wobbles like a cow's tail .... afterwards I wound half a meter of desolder wick around the screws .... now it is ok! if you don't have that stuff at home, you can alternatively use a 50 € bill .... also working!

I just got my package from Mad Bob's this morning! Been waiting about 7 weeks for it. I got their tension wrench set, with the regular and the curvy ones in their own case, and their carbon fiber jackknife pick set. I have one like the MultiPick jackknife that I got from Banggood...decent body, picks don't look as good quality as the MultiPick device...but they're really similar otherwise. The Mad Bob jackknife is like the Mini Victorinox of jackknife pick sets. It's about half, maybe 2/3 the size of the MultiPick set, weighs almost NOTHING. There's a spring that goes down the center of the device into which you slide the tension tool. It's a short standard bottom of the keyway wrench, but it's okay when you get used to it. It's held in place because it's running INSIDE a spring with enough tension on it to pinch the wrench in place. The pick release knob is on the side face instead of the spine, and seems to hold things very securely, since the wrench isn't in the way to hold the picks in. I can tuck the Mad Bob Jackknife inside a Maxpedition compass case I wear on my belt, along with a Russian KL-1 pocket-watch style circular slide rule. I hook a padlock on the carabiner on the back of the compass case, and that way I always have a lock and some picks to pick it with. Instead of a fidget spinner or top, I carry a lock and my picks. It's very comfortable to use, the picks are very slim profiled, thin, and finished with the typical Mad Bob hand finishing.

I just checked the Banggood picks. They're rough, sharp-edged pieces of barely-deburred steel. They'd require a LOT of work to be nearly as good in finish as the Mad Bob picks, and the steel isn't nearly as good. The thickness is about the same, but the MadBob picks, while about the same length, are narrower in profile. The only thing I like about the Banggood set is they have a Deforest style half-ball pick, but the MadBob has a Bogie rake.

Try MadBob's -- they're in the UK, you might have a better go of it. What I got was their prybar set, with both straight and S-curved tensioners. They're very nice, and I love the shape. I'm going to give 'em a try on the Master 911 I still haven't managed to pick, damn it's eyes. You do have to wait a long time for MadBob's, but they're not really that much longer than the wait for a package from China sometimes. I waited a month or so for the cheap-ass GangBang jackknife pick set. I have had fun collecting some pen-style pick sets too. I've owned a KWIK Pick for years, but that only came with a snake rake tip (or I lost the others and can't remember it ever having them), and I got a SouthOrd NPS-2000 pen set from Massdrop a couple of months ago (waste of my money, I don't like it). Right now, I carry three sets of picks on a regular basis. I have my own set, with two picks from my old SouthOrd set and two that I made myself from feeler gage steel, and the Sparrow's "Flat Five" prybars. Then I have the Mace Picks by Sparrow's in my wallet, along with a Boker Credit Card knife, a card that detects RFID and Qi charge coils, and an ounce of silver. (You never know) The third is now the MadBob Jackknife set, in the aforementioned compass case. I may leave the pocket set with the picks I made at home now that I have the nice jackknife...though it DOES have nice tensioners. I'll have to make some compact tension wrenches I can keep in the compass case too...maybe a small prybar. I do NOT carry ANY picks from the piece of crap worse than GOSO "Huge number of picks" set I got on Amazon, though. (That was before I started watching Bill's videos...imagine how embarrassed I was when I watched his video saying not to do what I had just already done.)

There is a specialty lock, and this lock, some say, is impenetrable. Others say it's always open by default, just try engaging the inner mechanics, and it opens up. To some, this lock is a dangerous hindrance, barring them from items and information critical to their very survival. To others, this lock is nothing more than a game. A complex fidget spinner, with no real practical use to be found. It's there to amuse themselves, but opening the lock to access it's content is not a priority. Yet, truth be told, this lock and others like it hold the KEY to our perceived existences. Our personas. Our biases and stereotypes. Our tastes, mannerisms, and beliefs/morals. It's been said that these locked vessels even hold inside them completely different, albeit, equally important locks to other endless Mobius strips of data, most of which we don't yet understand. These. These locked containers are what I wish to access, by ethical or non-ethical means. I don't wish to damage anything while gaining entrance, but if it's life or death on the line, I'll smash a window or set charges on the door to get in by all means necessary to save a fellow human being. These are the locks of addiction. Have you or has anyone you know lost their keys? It's okay to ask for help. Not all of us can pick locks. But everyone of us can pick up the phone. We can pick the right time. We can pick up the pieces, and start again. Don't lose hope. Happiness is there, friend. You just have to figure out how to unlock it.

Happened to me once.. not funny...the link turned bad, as I didn't remember I'd lost the keys... It was an election day, everything was closed down (we vote on Sundays here in France). It came down to a lot of lub, to no luck, then a neighbor heavy tools, and that wasn't fun at all. Wish someone had known about lockpicking back then instead... My wrist were badly bruised afterwards. No fur... vaccinated me to ever try again. They were real, heavy handcuffs.

@BosnianBill - I know this is three years after the original post, Bill, but how would you rate this Multipick pocket knife set against the RCS version, with the lever locking mechanism? Multipick have a great name for quality (typical German quality), but Deviant Ollam's Red Team web site say they've tried 'em all and the RCS lever lock version is the one they picked (sorry, pun not intentional). Just seems to me that the lever locking mechanism might be more secure, and maybe even give better feedback, than the knurled nut thingie...

Tried to get the free Pick Pals document but no download links appear either after the (free) order has been completed or via email (despite the subject line 'download your files'). No idea what the problem is. Bit of a shame.

NinoZachetti It worked for me once I created an account, signed in, then "purchased" it. Don't forget you need to also sign up for their newsletter. It can then be downloaded in the "order details" section or go to your "my account" section when logged in & there is a "downloads" section you can download it from. Creating an account is a little bothersome I guess but if you're from Aus then sooner or later you're bound to buy something from pickpals anyway, great prices & speedy delivery, excellent service & regular specials & even discounts for leaving reviews (doesn't matter if a review is good or bad as long as it's honest & helpful) The document is great & the ONLY one I've found after extensive searching that compiles all Aus laws in one document. Well worth the hassle!

How does this compare to the one from Southord? It looks very similar to me.

10 months too late but IMO this is better quality plus the 1/2 dia. & extrac. on the Southord are very poor :]

Daniel, I don't sell these things, just review them. You'll need to contact Sparrows directly. Their web address is: www.sparrowslockpicks.com. They DO ship overseas.

Nice, but I still don't think in my opinion, this is better than the Jackknives offered by Mad-Bob's locks.

Out of curiosity, what legal reason is there that requires a handcuff key or shim?

  • @sanguinestroberry8455

Well, seeing how it's legal for private citizens to own handcuffs and shimmable padlocks, it would not be hard to believe that one could have themselves or their property locked by a bad actor (or even by accident).
