LET'S PLANT!
EP 107 - Is this a PUP or a FLOWER? And other things you need to know about Echeveria flower stalks
While talking about dormancy in succulents in the last episode I thought it would be a good idea to talk about flower stalks again. This time, introducing other aspects of it as well.
In one of my previous videos, EP96, I focused on the topic of how to propagate using Echeveria flower stalks.
I referenced a lot of links throughout the video, so here they are in a nice and tidy list.

Oh my gosh!!!... this is the EXACT question I was wondering about my echeveria Lola lol thank you for the video.
You taught me how to speak succulent lol. They really do communicate so much in a visual sense. You just have to be observant and recognise what they saying.
Great knowledge ! Well done! Very nice video and very informative. Subscribed
Beautiful great tips thank you🤩🤩🤩💖💖
Thanks for that Chuck, that was very helpful. Cheers, Stewie.

What is the significance between a pup and flower stalk? I'm a beginner and boutique 5 different succulents that look like flowers. Two of them are pushed up what looks like flowers from around the middle of them. Infact, one if them is pushing up two. This is happening inside my house in January. Do I let them grow out? For how long
so relaxing to watch you and inspiring thank you for sharing...

Thank you for these tips! I have an echeveria and *something* is definitely growing out of the middle of the rosette, but I'm not exactly sure what it is! I can't wait to find out 😊

Salamat!
This was such a great video and so informative. I wonder of I have cut out a pup unknowingly on the past😮😢. I have propagated my black pronce from flower stalk leaves an cut the stalk and put in the dirt. I have to check on the stalk to see how it's doing. Thanks for sharing. I love that song throughout the video and glad to see you have new mic to move freely in your yard ☺👍❤.

Thanks Ruthie! Black Prince usually pushes out flower stalks that look like pups at first, because their flowers develop really slowly. If you propagate using all the leaves though, they strike well.

@@Cerriscapades thanks that makes a bunch of sense since the leaves did do well. Love the stalk saber btw😆😆.
I love all your videos and have given you lots of thumbs up. You are a great inspiration to us succulent lovers. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. I won't give the music any thumbs up, because it comes as a surprise and is too loud and absolutely not needed at all.

Thanks for the feedback Anna Bell, I'll definitely be mindful of my audio levels next time! 😬
Yes
Thankyou
Great video chuck! Refreshing music. 😊 Its nice to know that you're no longer limited to the distance of camera for good audio. Question though, if I intend to use the flower stalks for propagation, do I have to wait for the flowers to bloom? Or can I just cut it out as soon as I confirm that it is not a pup? Thank you

I prefer not to wait until the flowers bloom, because they're still growing vigorously. I usually let it go to a good height, and just before the buds get fully developed.

Thats good to hear! I dont want to attract insects either. Thank you 😊👍
Hi Chuck, Where do pups emerge on the echeveria pearl van nurnberg? Is that one of the ways to tell? I have a pretty growth just above the bottom row of leaves, pup or flower? hmmm. 😕
Hi I have a question about succulent plant, if it is ok to water them using aquarium water. Thank you in advance for answering and your garden is so beautiful

I do not have firsthand experience with this myself, but from what I know there is too much nitrogen in that water. Too much nitrogen will force plants to grow, and succulents do not need a lot of nitrogen. The succulent plants will end up bloated and stretchy and weak. You can save it for other leafy plants like vegetables instead.
How did you achieve the black Prince leaves to be black? I got one but is not as black as yours.
Do you know the best way to get imported rare succulents ? I'm in California
Hello I just stumbled on one of your videos on my Home. Are you of Maltese descent by any chance? Your accent says you might... :)

Hi Jean. That's interesting. I'm of Filipino descent. Now I'm quite curious what Maltese accent sounds like!
Your channel is very informative but the music is so distracting and loud. Your collection of succulents are amazing, thank you for sharing.
Do you sell succulents?

Yes www.cerriscapades.com/the-plant-shop, I can send to select parts of Australia.
I was told you cant propagate from stem leafs and i didnt know you could do it from the flower stem either...... I kept two stems alive in water for the flowers for a long time and I threw them away a few days ago. Lol i wish i seen this sooner. Never doing that again
I LOVE your videos but the music drives me crazy. I keep having to turn down the music. Watching you without the music is more zen for me. It's all meditation watching you work (without the music) even when your doing busy work (like adding all the leaves to the soil to propagate). Please don't read that the wrong way. I love you and your channel!

@@Cerriscapades I find the issue for me is not being about the song choice, but more about the the difference in music volume vs your actual audio volume. I find it a recurring issue that I'm sitting on my bed watching your videos and when you cut to b-rolls and music, I've to get up, turn down the volume, wait for you to begin talking again and turn the volume back up so I can hear you audibly. That being said, keep up the great work and love your videos!
@Cerriscapades

True, I seem to struggle with that a lot. With the speaking parts I boost it just enough so that the audio does not clip at the peaks. I have this habit of matching the music levels with the peaks rather than with the mid range of the audio. Thanks to both of you for calling it out, I'll be more mindful about this in the upcoming ones! Good timing too since I'm currently practicing my audio recording! 🤔😃
You are talking to fast so I can’t catch everything you are saying or the various options. Slow down please.
