+David Maglioli I love how this little tidbit sparked an entire lore behind it stating that Luke designed his own lightsaber in respect to Yoda, his late mentor, as opposed to Anakin's being handed down to him. Adding a bit of spirituality to Luke since not only is green representing the force specializing vs the blue lightsaber wielders who specialize in sword fighting. All of this thanks to a production fear.

Actually the title was originally return of the Jedi but gary kursher thought the tile was weak. The title was then changed to revenge of the Jedi. The title was changed back to return of the Jedi because a jedi doesn't take revenge. Source: Empire of Dreams

I would have loved to have seen the original version of revenge. There was too many cut in the movie from the middle to the end. Scenes from these would jump across the screen

Originally Wookies were the creatures on Endor. But go back in time to 1976 and none of this was yet released or a success. There was a giant possibility the film would fail and the second and third films never see light. This is primarily why Ep 4 feels like a condensed version of the trilogy. Mr. Lucas liked the Wookie so much he re-wrote the script for 4, the original co-pilot of the Falcon was scrapped and he made the co-pilot a Wookie. If the film had failed and he had not done this, no one today would know what a Wookie is. When the film was a success, and a few years later faced with the dilemma of Endor Wookies, the simplest solution was to cut them in half and make them more primitive. The Ewok, for better or worse, was born. And that is what Mr. Lucas said himself in a video interview with Leonard Maltin back in the early 1990s before the Special Edition version was released.

George Lucas made Wookies into Ewoks because of the Kenner action figues. I was a kid back then. We all already had Chewy, some of us were onto our second lot of figures cos the originals had been lost or set of fire or whatever. Then suddenly there's these cute little teddy figures, four or five in different sizes & colours with little spears & these headscarf things you could remove & Luke & Leia in their forest camo fatigues, you had to have Luke & Leia in forest camo fatigues & if you didn't have a speeder that broke into bits when you pressed the button disguised as a utility pack you were an asshole tbh... It was a marketing ploy & boy did we fall for it.

I love Return of the Jedi more than I love Empire. I know, it's an unpopular opinion, but I have to be true to my heart.

The "Blue Harvest," fake production title wasn't just to avoid attracting crowds, it was primarily so the production wouldn't be price-gouged by vendors. If all the contractors and local vendors in and around the shooting locations, outside the studio, knew it was the third Star Wars movie, they could jack up the prices of their services. And there wouldn't be a THING Lucasfilm could do about it, once the information was out. They still do it now, Rian Johnson used, "Space Bear," whenever they shot scenes outside the studio, on location. If he used, "Star Wars episode 8!" everything would have cost them massive amounts more.

I have a fan theory. R2-D2 is the first droid force-user. It explains how Artoo *always* survives. How he and Threepio were able to cross the hallway during the firefight opening Ep. IV without being blasted to scrap, for example. Why the red "R2 unit has a bad motivator, look!" Or, "I've lost Artoo!" but here he still is. He has a long history of association with the Jedi, and, while Threepio is mind-wiped on occasion, we never hear of Artoo being mind-wiped. Matter of fact, in the Clone Wars animated, they mention that he has never been mind-wiped. Did a story arc based on it. He's also a mechanic, tool-user and part-builder. . . who designed, built, and 'infected' himself with 'nanochlorians.' Threepio is his unknowing apprentice. . . which is how he survives being dismantled so many times. The chrome leg and the red arm are droid analogs for Luke's bionic hand, Vader's arms and legs, etc.

#108, that black pod Vader sat in is where he'd force choke a chicken. Sadly it was only after filming wrapped that he discovered Slave Girl Leia was his daughter. There was a great disturbance of guilt and shame in the Force.

For me, there is no weakest film of the original trilogy.

A few corrections and additions: Richard Marquand DID appear on screen as an ATST driver, in the scene where Chewie pulls out one of the pilots, the other on IS Marquand There is no sneaker in the asteroid sequence, there is a potato... the sneaker appears in the final space battle In an earlier version the Falcon fails to escape the Death Star, but test audiences protested, so despite Han Solo's foreshadowing, the Falcon survided The original 1:1 Falcon however got destroyed in a fire, thats why a dismal matte painting was used in the rebel hangar

I only TRULY like the ending of episode 2, every thing without love in episode 3 most of episode 4 except for the planning scenes, all of 5 besides the asteroid scenes, and the star and end of episode 6.

you missed one, i think. in the imperial fleet, the pride of tarlandia, which was a command ship, was destroyed by blue and green squadron, which was mainly b-wings. it was originally gonna be a scene in the movie, but because of how thin the wings of the b-wing were, it was hard to shoot, and all scenes with the b-wing were cut from the movie. thats why the b-wing is only seen during the beginning and end of the whole battle.

so it was Gonna be called Revenge of the Jedi and if that title stayed, would Revenge of the Sith be called Return of the Sith?

This was always my favorite Star Wars movie of all time...I have no idea why anyone considers this one the "weakest" of the originals at all. To me, Episode IV was too much "Point A to Point B," and Episode V was all filler...Sure Episode VI had the ewoks, but seriously? That's the best argument people can come up with? That's the same kind of immaturity that led to panning the prequels just for using more computer effects over practical effects. I just don't understand the argument. This movie had everything, and was full of action right from the get-go. Plus it had the best climax of any of the films to date. What did they do wrong?

+Maverick Hunter Zero It is my favorite also but, i can see how it is the "weakest" of the originals. the ewoks are kinda stupid. the original idea of wookies would've been much better. the second death star was kind of a lazy plot point. luke and leia being siblings was a little lazy too. kind of out of nowhere, it obviously wasnt planned before. boba fett's death is kind of dumb. but, no biggie that's about it. other than that it is pretty solid. and is my favorite star wars movie. in the sense that i enjoy watching it the most but, i recognize how it is not as well written. i think it has the best lightsaber fight in any star wars movie (accounting for story/choreography/music etc). and the best space battle in any movie (not even just star wars). even just the choreography is better than anything in the prequels. i don't know how the prequels failed so hard with the space battles when they did indeed make better choreographed lightsaber battles. i also was far more creative with the amount of different non-human characters. something the previous 2 lacked to some degree.

+TheGCritic Why wouldn't you call it A New Hope?! That makes no sense! Sure it was originally wasn't called that, but it makes more sense to give it a name, rather than just Star Wars. Besides, if you're hating it because it was called that in the Special Edition, you shouldn't because it actually was first given that name a little while after Empire was released, when the two were rereleased simultaneously.

Not sure about 7 but I think that in the very early stages it was "return", but everyone thought it was too weak, to it was changed to "Revenge". Then that was changed back because Lucas thought Jedi don't have revenge.

"Revenge of the Jedi" is all over The Goldberg show (until the episode about Return of the Jedi). Also, I never realized that the Death Star II was bigger than the original :P

The Endor scenes were filmed in California at the Redwood national forest. Not British Columbia. None it was shot in Canada.

"The sound of Jabba the Hutt's slithery moves was created by soundman Ben Burtt running his hands through a cheese casserole." I don't know why hearing that makes me laugh so much. Maybe it's just how the person reading the facts says that line as though running your hands through a cheese casserole is something you would do every day, just because.

On fact #7, it is actually reversed and was not Lawrence Kasdan. If you watch the "Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Saga" at about two hours and one minute into it, George Lucas told Howard Kazanjian that the title for Episode VI, was "Return of the Jedi," and Howard thought it was a weak title, and it was about a day or two days later, that George came back and said it was being called "Revenge of the Jedi." Of course about a few weeks before the movie was set to be released George told Howard that he wanted to go back to using "Return of the Jedi" because he felt the logic behind it was that a Jedi does seek revenge.
