Many years ago ( pre internet ) I was hired to play at The Bitter End in NYC with a singer/songwriter duo. I met them a week before and they gave me the cassette tape and charts. When I arrived home I read through the set list and song #11 was “Laughter in The Rain”. Since we were performing all of their original tunes I thought this was a mistake and called them. I asked if it was an error and they said no...and please learn that song to the best of your ability....which I did. What had happened was this songwriting duo performed out in The Hamptons and Neil Sedaka was in the crowd. He loved the female singer and told her if she ever performed in NYC they should call him and he would come to the show. Well..he was there at the show and I had a blast performing this song with him playing piano and singing. It was a full house so it was a real treat for us.

My cousin Howie (Greenfield) told me a story about how him and Neil had five A&R people turn down "Love Will Keep Us Together" and said it wasn't a hit. At dinner one night in the Valley they were talking about it and Toni Tennille and Daryl Dragon were doing a duet in the supper club. Howie and Neil turned around simultaneously and said "Let's give it to Daryl, he'll know what to do with it" ! The rest is history, it won a Grammy !

Philip - SO glad you talked Neil into not repeating the transition into the chorus. But the one thing that bothered me was not that the line changed from verse 1 to verse 2 and then back to the verse 1 line when it transitioned from the bridge , but what bugged me was how Neil would alter the order when he would sing it live. Instead of returning to "I feel the warmth of her hand in mind" after the bridge (like in the original recording), he would instead sing "Sharing our love under stormy skies". Very disruptive to those like myself who have every single element of the original recording mesmerized. He must have decided he liked that line over the other.

I saw Neil Sedaka way back in the ‘70’s at the Riviera in Las Vegas when I lived there at that time. He had opened for the Carpenters and they fired him because he was getting more applause than they were. It was a big story in the newspaper at that time. The Riviera brought him back has a headliner and I went to see him. What a showman he was. A fantastic night and worth every penny I payed.

Next sunday I hzve been four months in hospital due to intracranial hemorrhage. Anyway, hospital life is boring, but your videos allways save my day. You have been my idol for decadesand my admiration is getting deeper day by day. Thank you so much, Lee!

OK, 59-yo guitar player here. Been playing for decades. Classic rock, jazz, country, blues, etc. I will admit this here to any and all of Lee's 100,000 subscribers. I really like that 1980 tune that Neil sang with his daughter, "I Should Have Never Let You Go." It's syrupy and all that but it has a really nice melody, great harmonies, and Neil's daughter does a bang-up job.

You my friend are a national treasure. I have played keyboard for 40 years and I'm seriously considering trying bass because of you. Your subscribers will continue to grow because people love your unfiltered, real, folksy, insightful, funny persona and the bass playing on your incredible catalog of work is icing on the cake. Keep rocking.

Huzzah! Congratulations on hitting your first hundred thousand subscribers! Getting together with you every day is such an unpretentious pleasure. It’s as though we’ve been pen pals for over 50 years and you’ve been sending us notes through your bass, and just recently you moved in next door, and now we get together every day for coffee. Stay safe, ok?

Hi Leland, I found you very recently... As a fellow musician and singer/songwriter, I am learning so much by how you speak about music, arrangements and musical relationships, plus I really value learning about the history of how certain styles developed for example, and your overall personal expressions are really heartwarming, so thank you!!! I look forward to your KZread upload every day right now. Plus I'm in the middle of my own project and so listening/learning from you is truly helpful and inspirational

This song was always on the radio on WHLS in Port Huron Michigan when I was a kid. It really brings back a snapshot of that part of my life. My Mom would sing this a lot puttering in the yard. The technical moments couldn’t have been scripted any better. The computer, the phone, the ding... See you tomorrow! Thanks again! D

I was a kid. Just moved to California when this song came out. I was on Canoga, in woodland hills in the car with my uncle. Heard this an instantly loved it. Obviously, I as a young boy. Had great taste in all types of music. Thanks so much for sharing!

Lee Sklar. Looks like God. Teaches me far more about life and living than the actual God. Iv had some fun over the last few weeks finding out about musicians he mentions in each video, it has been such an education!! Always listen to each days post before bed here in Southern Ireland 🇮🇪 . Long may this continue! 🇮🇪
