I love it! I do have a question. What will your customer do about the eventual warping as it dries? I am curious as to how you personally dry the pieces you are turning for yourself and others. Great video and a wonderful piece.

I was going to ask the same thing. Oak here, is really bad about cracking while warping. White oak or Red. It always cracks with me... ;)

The customer is aware of the possibility of warping and cracking. However, with evenly turned walls and a gradual drying process (it is wrapped in newspaper) over a couple of months, cracking and warping can be minimised.

Hi Martin hope you are well. As the bowl was a "wet" turn do you not need to pack it in a bag with shavings to allow it to dry completely and will it warp? Give my regards to Les when you see him.

How did you keep the soft areas from dishing out when you sanded?

Martin, glad you mentioned the Tannin stains. I 've almost quit turning Oak, especially wet/green oak because it takes so long to clean up everything to make sure any metal doesn't rust. And how thin did your turn down the walls for drying and minimum warpage?

Very timely video, thank you for sharing. I’ve acquired some tree trunks, had my chain saw sharpened and replaced my band saw blade so I’m ready to turn. Martin, what grit do you use to sharpen your gouges? 🌞

Hi Martin... good to see you back sharing again... Quick question, when you turned the piece around and mounted on the tenon, it seemed to be quite a bit off center. When I get that because of the soft tenon, I try to return the outside again to true it up to the inside. Since this is a wet piece, I know things move a bit as you go... So how much out of round do you normally allow before you "fix" it? Thanks, Richard Parker

Thanks for watching , Thomas. I would love to have the time for a fly on the wall love again with the background music. Very busy with teaching on Saturdays at the moment. Maybe in a few weeks when it calms down again I'll have a chance.

Are there any issues putting a finish on wood that has not finished drying out?

Yes, I know, and so does the cutomer.

Please practice safety and always use a face shield when turning.
