That Hydrosplus Auger sure makes Johnny a complete machine for post hole or plants. A 14 or 16-inch auger would have cut your time down considerately and would be great to see if Johnny can run one that big.

What a dandy unit for compact tractors! I like it. Even with Johnny X, I’m surprised how well it works. Of course Vinny and the power rake continue to amaze. Blessings.

Roots of your stock need to be loosened/ fluffed and even cut grow properly. Other wise they tend to continue in the circular growth pattern with less than good positive results. May die over time & require more water & feeding the way they were installed. Hand digging hole is the "Proper" way to install plants. With a post hole digger the walls are often to shear and even scored by the machine depending on soil type and will help keep the roots growing in a strangling circular pattern. Lol you beat me too it. I was going to say the same thing about the roots. Most landscape architects will spec out on the prints and notes to not use a auger for plant materials.

@@philipberry2704 it's about education , most people make mistakes by improperly planting tree's and shrubs. Really and trufully those arborvite don't belong where they are planted. Most homeowners have no idea and end up spending money on planting materials that can and will most certainly die when planted in the wrong location or improperly planted. Education is the key .

I have a hydraulic auger that works just fine on my 3033R. It is rear mounted. My brother and I purchased ours when we were building post buildings. Great video.

I planted 14 trees this spring. The instructions were to dig a hole at least twice the diameter if the root ball. Spead the roots if they were going in a circle. Even cutting some to loosen a tight ball. Great xhowing of the equipment.

I think you should have compacted the soil as you moved it in. If you put white tape on the auger at the depths you want, it will go faster and less measuring each hole. Always make the hole twice the diameter of the root ball. Then spread out the plant root ball to get better root growth. It gives the roots space to grow out better.

Vinny and that power rake more handy then a shirt pocket great episode I have to get one of those tooth bars would make digging in my rocky soil so much easier maybe for Christmas

Nice loader mounted hydraulic auger, it sure made planting much easier, a 12" to 14" auger would have been ideal for this situation for sure.

Vinny is the ultimate shovel avoidance...

2 containers deep. Don’t wallow it out, you can widen the hole with a shovel. And jump up the auger speed to throw the waste out of the hole.

I use my tractor as much as I can. The other day I had to use a shovel and then had to remember how it works. Lol!

I like that post hole drill better for a number of reasons: one is that it is out front so you don't have to twist around to see what your doing.

I built my own hydraulic auger for the loader on my L2501. I built in a left to right pivot to accommodate any variance. I mistakenly thought I could control in and out movement with my loader dump control. It worked for about 30 minutes, then destroyed one of the bearings. Back to the drawing board.

We had a bad experience with arborvitae trees. They never grew as expected

That's because everyone plants the non-native variety. Native plants are always the way to go.

I like it! Got a question Tim..on a 1025r when not using backhoe..have you invented a piece of a equipment that would utilize the sub frame brackets and 3 point hitch and summit rear hydraulics?

As a professional landscaper and Gardener, this video kills me.

Great video. I like watching these types of videos. The souped up Johnny works great. I’d like to see how a stock Johnny handles the digger. The ventrac attachment sure works nice too. Will it move the rake up or down on the right and left side ? Like a motor grader. Have a great day.

Take a look at your local regulations on how high your well head needs to be. Most place need them 12-24 inches above the ground to prevent surface water from coming in.

@@TractorTimewithTim I picked one up in a tractor package I bought. NY guy ran a snow blower with the power unit. I sold the tractor but kept the power unit. It’s got a pretty solid gear box and a 28gpm pump. Hydraulic math wizards said I might be able to get 22-24 Gpm with the 3046r. I’m excited to try it.

We have a power pack to run our TrailBlazer front hydraulic brushcutter on out GrandL 3560. I like it that that it runs a constant flow of just under 12 gpm. Unfortunately, TrailBlazer stopped making their brushcutter. They couldn't resolve their patent lawsuit with Lane Shark so they had to stop production. Too bad , because I think TrailBlazer was a superior design to Lane Shark. I also don't think it's a food idea to do a lot cutting without a power pack.

My dad put a post hole digger on his 1025r and was digging post holes and it took off digging, buried itself and stalled the tractor out. They had to dig it out by hand. I had to take my 2240 over and we used that for the rest of the holes.

Yep. Had that happen. Very frustrating! Nothing the little 1025r can do to stop it!

I could be wrong, but I think it is recommended to leave the top of the dirt the shrub comes in 1” above ground level. They should not be flush with the ground. It helps water to run around the plant and down to all the roots instead of just sitting in one place on top.

A few of them died. …but not really a fault of the auger :-)

these auger... i have a 3pts one and bought the 12" but realized it wasnt big enough and my brand dont make a bigger auger, i had to buy a "hexagonal" 16" auger and modified it to fit my brand... i wished they all make 12", 16", 20" or some along these lines... its true my 12" is more than enough most of the time but it's very annoying to have to dig by hand when you bought that thing to not dig by hands :) i like how to manage to enlarge the holes tho!

Why run at idle? Seems like it would perform much better with more throttle.

Think you could rig that auger to Vinny?

next time you plant trees like this, make sure to cut the roots on the side and bottom so they don't have circling roots later in life.

That loader mounted auger looks like an awesome option. What rpm were you running? How does the hydraulic flow at the rpm you were running on Johnny X compare to a stock 1025R at wide open throttle?

Stock tractor at WOT has 3.5 GPM. H+ at WOT can have about 7.5 - 8 GPM. Idling with H+ will be very close to Stock and full throttle.

Bending the hydraulic cylinders???? It is much lighter than a bucket full of dirt!

You would use a compact tractor, especially with forks, buckets and grapples. I put a palate on my forks and use it to move Christmas tree and decoration boxes out of barn and bring to house. I pushed a fridge out of the cook shed, laid it over the forks to move to the dump. I pile up sticks and limbs in piles in the yard and pick them up with the grapple take it straight to the burn pile. when I clean up pinecones I use the bucket so I only have to dump them out on the burn pile. I've used my compact tractor to move furniture, a big desk and a piano. We can't live with out our compact Do yall have anything on spider lifts? I'm getting to old to climb ladders to wash high windows, get on the roof to clean out gutters, to cut limbs etc. I need to buy one but I want to hear info from experienced users.

19:20...no you don't want it off to one side or the other, you want it dead center of the hydraulic ram, if you have 2 rams, 3 rams, 4 rams still dead center or you risk bending a ram arm or breaking a cylinder mount. with unequal stress flex.

Correct…but if the stress is below capacity, then moving to the side improved usability. One must balance all the concerns.

Great video on how not to plant trees for fun or profit. Arbs are pretty tough but I wouldn't bet on those making it long term.🤣

Why do people say you can't backdrag with a 1025R? Do some people end up breaking their "curl mechanism", cylinders or hydraulic hoses? I actually do it all the time with my 1025R, especially when working the last bit of a dirt or gravel pile. I don't curl the bucket all the way down though, because right at the end of "anti-curl" there is a non-linear region where the bucket curls very quickly. This means the cylinder and loader structural loads will become very high in this region of curl. A basic rule I use is any mechanism with a region of travel that moves quicker than normal will experience high structural loads in that region of travel. As long as I keep the curl in the "average speed" regions, I believe backdragging is fine. Do you agree?

Went east out of town yesterday on 32 and thought "Dang, Tim finally paid his taxes" with that new pavement. Then quickly realized you didn't actually pay all that much as they didn't make it very far from town.

It is a ‘souped up’ 1025r. Turbocharged, etc.

Would love to have that auger but my wallet won't allow it. I'm afraid to ask the price.

$2000 auger, its great but way expensive for most people. Average person won't get their money worth due to the price unless they do huge project or several of them.

I bought this use from H+ after learning about H+ through Tim. I bought one because I Hate, let me restate that HATE the three point hitch auger. It’s dangerous, cannot dig well in rocky ground, unstable and has a potential PTO whipping around if it breaks. I just mounted it to my fork frame and am wiring up a third function kit as I type this. Looking forward to seeing what it can do!

I sold some land but did not want to use it for my project (a 11000 watt solar system). I decided to put it to work in the stock market. A little luck and skill and I made enough to buy all the parts, even a three point post hole digger for the ground mount. Only 24 holes but no way 71 year old me is going to dig 24 four foot deep, 12 inch wide holes by hand. $800 well spent and who knows, I might find a reason to build a fence or something. I already plan to use it for the four poles needed for the lean to park my equipment (including my 1023E) under.

Hello Tim and Christy. I have to disagree with you on your choice of beverage. Cheeseburger and “Moxie” would be a whole lot better. Maybe a Rueben sandwich also instead of cheeseburger. Keep videos coming.

Y'all look like you're doing a good job but you are actually causing a problem by not having your well head elevated it's required by law and the health department

So would you recommend this front attachment set up over the rear 3 point auger? I’m buying one just for planting arborvitae’s and small trees.

Yes, assuming you have enough hydraulic flow. The reason is that it can be run backwards to get it out of the hole if jammed.
