101 Ranch: The Story of the Kuykendall Family - HCHC Documentary Series

This is the story of the largest ranch in Hays County and the family who ran it for over 60 years. Two strong women, a mother and her daughter and children ran thousands of head of cattle, horses and sheep on over 11,000 acres of hill country property.
This documentary is based on interviews with members of the Kuykendall and Hoskins families, who grew up on the 101 Ranch near Buda. This was the largest ranching operation in Hays County when it began in 1902. Maggie Kuykendall took over in 1905 with the death of her husband, and along with her daughter Dorothy Kuykendall Hoskins, they kept the 101 going for the next 60 years. Period historical reenactments and photos help tell the story of early ranching life during the first half of the 20th century.

Went to college in Hayes County back in early 70s and ran around with the Kuykendall Brothers we were Fraternity brothers their family at that time still owned land along the G Guadalupe and San Marcos rivers and surrounding area....their ancestors and and mine ran cattle drives at the same time with the early Kuykendall Settlers my folks also teamed up with the Johnson Brothers on these drives and they actually had one of the earliest Anglo Cattle brands (Turkey Track) granted by the Spanish Government.

Ya know that one gentleman (I use that lightly) really didn't need to keep using the Lord's name in vain! I mean I'll betcha his ancestors would have been totally appalled! That's one thing that can make me turn off a video so quickly! 😔

@toddkuykendall6030 so this is actually my last name and I can shed some light. Kuykendall is Dutch and the spelling is somehow an english-ified version, probably from someone who wasn't very literate. The last name used to be preceeded by Van, meaning "from", and Kuykendall is actually a town. The direct English translation for Kuykendall is "chicken valley". The more you know.
