Additional facts: Although not known widely arond the world, Switzerland has a distictive coffee culture. The fully automatic espresso machine was invented here and also the first capsule coffee maker, mostly known as the Nespresso machine. Bonus fact: The song "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple, is based on a fire incident, watched by the band in 1971 in Montreux.

Swiss commodities trading companies -Trafigura - dominate the dirty business of filthy fuel in Africa. @@scala4595 I know Switzerland isn’t a perfect country but there’s no perfect country in our world and Switzerland know it and gladly talk about the past of the country. Plus it’s not Switzerland fault but companies’s one so if you want me to tell some bad things that your country’ve done, I’d like to do so. I aren’t defending companies’s cause but I just want Switzerland to be trashtalk with good reason and be objective about it. Just don’t talk about something badly without know a bit about it, it could be usefull to your future. Sign: a person that hate see someone say bad thing about something they don’t know well (and I hope I didn’t make stupid spelling mistakes un this text) in hope to see you more objective about what you talk.

    5 жыл бұрын

@@metaknightex Uhhhh... Look the thing is.... nobody really knows. Not even the the year is very clear and it wasn't really a contract to form a confederacy(eidgenossenschaft). Over the time frame of the late 13th century and the beginning of the 14th centeruy there were some alliances formed in central switzerland that just grew more and more. Look for example at the Tell Monument in Altdorf were "1307" is written in the Monument itself, because in central switzerland the year of 1307 was more widespread as the birthyear of switzerland then 1291. The reason why everyone thinks that 1291 is the birthyear of switzerland, is because the goverement choosed this date and made it official, together with the 1. of august. It's just random and there is almost no historical background to this date, the main reason for choosing 1291 over 1307 was mainly because they could combine the celebration of the city of bern(founded in 1191) with the celebration of the swiss confederacy... Look at wikipedia: "Foundation date ca. 1300[note 2] (traditionally 1 August 1291)" I know it's sounds dull, but its the truth. But honestly I don't mind 1. August is in midsummer and it's a day off to make some nice BBQ and see some fireworks. Better then late september when the confederation was reformed in 1848.

I was in Zurich in January, a couple years ago . . . And was very much surprised to see . . . NO snow! I was informed that contrary to popular foreign belief, Zurich wasn't all that cold (Except in the mountains) and didn't have a very long period of snow; only a few weeks.

I think you should have mentioned that its Swiss German, since it's really a different language, and the fact that within that language there are more than 30 dialects. It's a common mistake but really easy to look it up. Many German people can't understand Swiss German, but Swiss people do understand German because it is mandatory to learn it in school (since Swiss German is written in German) :))

Which they replied " no I don't" and continue to talk German to me... Wierdest thing was the way theirs faced changed whenever I asked if they could speak English

@@einsjannis I've meet Swiss people all my life and that never happened to me. I have to mention that I was not around a big city. Maybe there was some cultural clash of something like that, but was truly wierd. In Zurich I had no problem what so ever, some residents even told me that sometimes stuff like that is normal in more rural areas, even more when there's a random guy with long black hair asking people if they can speak English ahah
