I'm using a relative's old D3S and an old sigma 100-300 + 1.4x teleconverter my father bought back in 2008 at dubai and oh my god this setup is so good and so are my results from motorsport photography, I love it. It's nice to see people like you using the old pro DSLRs from the 2000s showing it's still worth it and it's able to produce great results. You don't need several thousand dollars for the latest mirrorless gear to have good photos, these old gears are still worth it and still will be in another 10+ years

I myself have a d700 and a d850 both purchased used wouldn't trade them for the world.

You're so right. Switched from Alpha's to 3D, -S, -X and never coming back; sold the X because I found no special reason to keep it. Happy to see that I'm not the only only one like not so long ago. Greets.

@ottosdos keep a close eye on used gear with so many people rushing into the mirror less realm excellent deals can be had with the high end older gear. I just gave my son a D850 with a pod a bag a nikor 105prime 70prime 35prime and it cost me less than 1300 usd 10k clicks on this body it's so clean

@anders1621 hey I just got my meathooks on sigma fpl used. The files that thing spits out, are crazy good. So much room for croping. 1800 usd with two lenses.

these pictures are better than some people with the latest cameras.

I got a Nikon D200 from Japan with 620 shutter actuations for &110. Mint. Best purchase ever!

Just got a D4S with 3 memory cards and 4 batteries for 650 $ ! It had 75’500 clics

Wow what a deal. Here in France they are asking 2,100€ for a D4S. They are crazy because at that price I won't buy an old D4S

Good Job man..... people need to understand that older cameras are excellent...... It's not the camera, It's the photographer !!!!!

I bought a D3 for 500 and I love it so much. I will keep it forever even if I have to get it rebuilt.

Me too 500 CAD 2 cards 2 batteries and I will keep it forever.

I currently use a Sony A7RV with a battery grip. I’m happy with the setup but often find it soulless to use. It feels more like using a computer, although the results are excellent. I also find it a little fiddly to operate with all of its smallish controls and I hate having to delve into the menus. So, I just bought a used Nikon D3S with low shutter count, and plan to build up a cheap Nikon backup kit which who knows, may eventually lead to me selling my Sony gear altogether. I just got a D3S (85k shutter) and 24-70 for $1200. It's pretty amazing.

I got a d3 from keh with 150k shutter for 280 USD. I wanted to buy the d700 but since the d3 was cheaper I bought it instead 😅 Its my first proper camera, I absolutely love it. I'm still learning, I can't wait to put it through the paces.

Beautiful presentation I must say. I bothers me to see so many people getting sucked into the latest greatest vortex. So many out there shooting technically perfect shots that are completely and resoundingly soulless. I could almost see my breath standing on the snow squinting in the glaring sun. What a rush.

yup, i only moved to nikon's mirroless system because i needed better video recording capability. Else i would've kept my dlsr.

@Nicktasteless I'm so glad you brought that up because, I should have added that yes if your livelihood depends on it then yes the latest and greatest it is,but for the vast majority of shooters out there great and I mean truly great cameras can be had on the used market that will augment your artistic expression.

@Nicktasteless I just picked up a Sigma fpl with a Sigma 35mm art lens for 2k full frame 61mp and the files that it's spitting out are incredible. As a local portrait photographer that only shoots in an air-conditioned garage studio, I can't honestly say I needed it. I just had real bad GAS at the moment. Network,establish friendships, engage in artistic collaborations, learn share and teach.

@jd5787 there are so many good deals right now it's crazy. My friend just scored a d850 with 40k clicks. four lenses filters a bag the crazy expensive battery grip two strobes a so-so tripod for 2300usd. The guy selling it is going full in on the z9 and wants only z lenses and accessories. The 850 still today is a masterpiece and at that price.

“Just a hobbyist” is an interesting way to describe a high functioning hoarder of camera gear. … this coming from someone who also considers themselves a hobbyist photographer, and has also accumulated a collection of various equipment

This dates from a high point in Nikon's camera production with the D300, D700, D3, D3s and D3x all coming out close to each other. All with great imaging and build. All reliable and all taking the same CF card and either originally or by adaptation of the Nikon Grip able to take the same high capacity battery! Whichever you choose you may find you will never need to upgrade. The 85mm 1.8 is a tad soft wide open but stopped down to 4-5.6 is a strong performer and capable of results equal to any other lens available now. As to shutter noise - most of this is due to the camera being next to your ear and resting on the bones of your face!

I have a D700 and D810 . They do the jobs very well and I'm keeping them .

After putting down the cameras in the film era, I just picked one up again. I got a Nikon z6, the "kit" lens, and a Rokinon 14mm f/2.8. All used. A little more than this kit, but I'm happy I sucked it up and went mirrorless.

I just bought a D3 158k clicks for the approx same amount - you did a really good deal :-). The handling is really great as is the autofocus.

I will soon use my D3S I just bought for 300€ with lot of accessories but no objectives - hope to find these asap but it's still expensive over here (Belgium)

picked up the same 28-105 3.5-4.5D for about 20 quid. People just don't know how good these lenses are sharpness wise. The distortion is a bit annoying but otherwise they're small and awesome. That 85mm you got was an absolute steal !

I was deciding between the D700 and D3 but went with the D3 because it was only little bit more expensive

I will never sell my D3. My kids may do it when I'm gone, but that's their loss :D
