Some people don’t understand how important his channel is. Companies can say they have the best shoe in the world, but once you tear it down and cut it open, is when you see the true value of the item. Brands love when we fall into their marketing, and don’t question the quality.

Onze invented, these materials can be produces relatively cheaply, and will be proprietary to Nike. @@dgoody84 The fact of the matter is that there are objective markers of quality when it comes to footwear; type/grade of material, construction style, and quality control just to name a few. If a pair of shoes is composed of low quality materials, has a flimsy construction, and/or has poor quality control, yet a high price tag, most would agree that purchasing those shoes is a poor financial decision. There's also the fact that all consumer products are meant to make the company that produced them money; no matter what the product is, the price that it's sold for is substantially higher than the price it cost to make. In this particular case, Nike themselves valued these shoes at ~$160 USD; athletic-style sneakers are typically sold at a markup of 100%, so that puts them at a manufacturing cost of ~$80/pair. This means that if you paid $1000 for these shoes, you have effectively bought a pair of shoes that cost $80 to manufacture for a 1150% markup. While you're absolutely correct that it's not really anyone's business how someone else spends their own money, there are absolutely valid reasons why someone may consider a hobby that involves paying for a product at over 1000% of its actual value (and over 600% of its retail value) "dumb".

  • @Noadvantage246

@@karbon9490 Cost of materials and manufacturing is irrelevant when you're talking about anything artistic or collectable. Is it dumb to pay a 2,000,000% mark-up over the cost of a canvas and paint? No its irrelevant, if you're buying a Picasso painting at that markup it'd be a steal. Regardless of how flimsy the original canvas or how old the paint is. Also I'd like to point out buying these even for 1k 2 years ago would've been an objectively good financial decision as they've now appreciated and their current market value is 1.5k

Haven’t gone through the comments but has anyone commented about the “glitter” effect on the black leather? Been trying to figure out if it’s the type of leather Nike used or some sort of polyurethane coating they put on top of the leather? The “glitter” is visible on other black leather Air Jordan 1s created during this era of production.
