    I am a German teacher and would like to point out that saying each item only twice at a normal speed is not enough for newer learners. You should say them a couple of times very slowly and then again at a faster speed. It is better to cover fewer expressions at a slower pace. The sounds are difficult for many learners.

    Mrs, videos are these are commonly used to note down vocabulary. If somebody is trying to make flashcards and one word is said 5 times, it will take a whole lot longer

    I want to share with you my new idea of teaching and learning vocabulary: Often I read or listen to german language, and many words I find kind of familiar, although I have no idea what they mean. Their familiarity to me is due to the fact that they share a root, that I came across before. For example: anfangen, fangen, Gefangenschaft, der Gefangene... they all have something in common in their meaning. You probably could think of more words wit root "fangen" and also explain their meaning at the same time. Once we get feel of German prefixes, like: ge-, an-, auf-..., and suffixes like: -shaft, -ling, -e..., we could almost INSTANTLY learn a lot of words, by learning just one root! We could remember much, much easier! How do like this concept? I love it... Is it possible that you people made a video like that, with family (or families) of words with common root? I encourage everyone out there to use this concept and make videos.

    @galemckiddy5120

    As a German teacher, I can tell you that this is not always a good idea. Because they share a "root" word does not mean the meaning of some German words is clearly discernible. It is best to learn the meaning of a vocabulary word in a context example, ie. anfangen means to begin, but fangen means to catch. Lebhaft means lively, but Zweifelhaft means doubtful. Especially the prefixes can cause a misunderstanding. You have to have much more than a "feel" for the prefixes--you have to learn them attached to the words. German vocabulary can be complex, even when words appear to be similar.

  • @mfst100

    @mfst100

    @@galemckiddy5120 As a German student I totally disagree. 3. "Fangen" means to catch. "An" could mean "on" And therefore An+fangen means to CATCH ON something, TO GRAB SOME ACTIVITY! And it is a lot easier for people like me to learn all family of words with "fangen" together, because people like me can understand AND FEEL the multiple meanings of the word "fangen"! 4. "...haft" is not a root! It is a suffix! And therefore I doubt that you are even a teacher. (I am not being aggressive here towards you, I'm just saying what is in my head.) 2. Learning each word separately is a lot of work and more work is bad for learning. 1. There is a lot of similarity... 5. ...Jeeesssuuusssss.....I feel like a pioneer among closed minded conservatives... (6. sequence of my points is deliberate, to focus on what is important.) 7. Peace

    @Pawel G Don't mind the negative comments, I had used the same learning technique to study sanskrit; Its a great way to intuit the meanings of new words without having to refer a dictionary. Moreover, this way the meanings are more etymologically accurate. Let me know if you come across a video/book that uses this method of teaching vocabulary Cheers 🍻

    It's just a question of two different dialects. Human language is flexible enough to allow this, which is why there is no "exact" way to pronounce a word that is correct. The best thing to do is to keep on listening to a wide variety of German people speaking and mimic, not just one, but as many as you can. In the end you will wind up with your own unique dialect. But don't see that as something negative. The fact is you would be hard pressed to find two german people who speak the language exactly the same.

    Well you need mass input. Through listening and hearing the language. Vids like this one help a lot. Because with these phrases you're hearing it for listening input. Also you're picking up vocabulary words in context. You're also reading and practicing speaking so it's efficient. You definitely don't need to write. To be good at speaking a language. There are plenty of people who can't write well. But speak their language just fine.

That way you're active listening. By building up your vocabulary. And you can slow down the vids to listen closely to pronunciation of words and sentences. Die Formulierung "Die Bücherei ist in der Nähe von der Kneipe." ist ganz schlechtes Deutsch, richtig müßte es heißen: "Die Bücherei ist in der Nähe der Kneipe."

    Many times the first syllable or half syllable in English is cut off. And same with the German male speaker. He’s clipped at the beginning. The only one that is not clipped or chopped at the beginning when speaking is the German woman speaker. Poor audio editing.

    The woman in the start of this video talks like she is talking to her date in a warm, sensuous tone of voice in a quiet, dimly lit romantic restaurant. As I was listening to it while doing exercise, it was NOT conducive to what I was doing so I discontinued listening at 2:00.
