Looks so good! We have family recipes, but they were just taught to my grandma, my mom…so on and so forth. So it’s never been written down :/. They just eyeball everything and it’s delicious. When I visit, I’m going to learn with them and try and make recipe cards for myself and future generations.

This is similar to what my family has done where our recipe paper was quite literally rotting from how old it was. We’d have the ice cream every thanksgiving at my grandma’s house, and then my mom thought of a way to change the recipe so it would taste stronger and be cheaper. She now has an ice cream store.
We make sorbetes like that in the Philippines, its commonly known as "dirty ice cream" ( even tho it's not dirty ) and is sold on the streets, sometimes topped with chocolate syrup and has different flavors like avocado, mango, cheese, ube, cookies n cream and a lot more!

For clarification, Yes I live in the philippines but the only distinct feature that the dirty ice cream has is that it uses different types of milk, Kalabaw or Coconut milk.
I see a lot of people knows how to make kick ass ice cream, but no one is bothered to share them!
As a 15 year ice cream cafe manager and maker the ONLY thing I would say about this is never open the container while the ice and salt is next to it. Salt and ice can fall in completely ruining the top layer.
My grandad has that exact ice cream makerrr 😮🎉
no wonder why he's called the ice cream man. his family has been doing it for years!

My family doesn’t have items that we pass down to each other, or any kind of recipe. I will say though that it’s like of like a tradition to know how to skate. My mom and dad skate, taught their kids to skate, and if I have children or nieces or nephews I’m going to continue that skill. I don’t know if my brother will but I would like to.

Reminds me of making ice cream with my grandpa in the garage. We only did for family events but those were some of my favorite memories and definitely some of the best ice cream I've ever had.
I sometimes like it when old recipes are used it feels…lovely 💕
sadly, my family has no recipes, because of disheartening reasons I won't burden anyone with. I want to make recipes, but I don't know how to cook. when I do get a grasp for cooking, I want to experiment and make traditions. the great thing about them is the memories! 💙

Making traditions yourself sounds like the best idea anyway! You get to be the one they tell the stories about! The tradition starter! A special role to have. This is to inspire you to start something new and awesome that you can pass on to those that you love.

Start with something easy that you like to cook and slowly go from there. Mine as a teenager was spaghetti, it went from basic crap spaghetti to getting a bit better. Then it turned into something I could cook to impress my friends and girlfriend. Now after years of cooking it, its a family favourite and our kids call it dads special spaghetti lol.

That ice cream machine is cool. I wish I had something like that because I just use a double Ziploc bag setup.
I’m glad you said frozen custard, because i just immediately thought, “umm, ice cream doesn’t have eggs.”
My grandmother has a VERY similar story of her grandmother selling ice cream in their village. By far the best ice cream I've ever had, and is unlike any other ice cream, there's a half frozen point where its just the best milkshake you've ever had. Only difference I've seen so far is that we use coconut in ours, which is like straight up crack, we usually only make it around Christmas :(
