Quick balls are generally the best to use since you throw them right after encountering for a higher catch rate instead of lowering health, also if you want to do good with pokemon stuff I'd at least look up a Pokemon's stats when considering catching them, ignoring the ekans even making it an Arbok doesn't honestly make it much better, also some pokemon have specific requirements like happiness or different conditions to evolve
