100 Obscure PC Games of the 1990s (Part 8: 1997) [TURN ON SUBTITLES]

TURN ON SUBTITLES TO SEE THE GAME TITLES
A look at 100 obscure PC games that were released in 1997!
Another great year for PC gaming - but a bit of a sad one; so many of these obscure games are pretty good and deserve a higher profile - but the PC game scene was exploding - with new titles being released every day by big companies (compared to earlier in the decade when a bulk of the produced games were shareware/homebrew games).
3D was starting to cement itself as a must-have; FPSs were still popular, but the point and click multimedia adventures were losing favor. In place, the Real Time Strategy (RTS) was really taking off, next to the advent of 3D games! Additionally, Windows 95 was now the defacto platform for most big releases, with pure DOS games falling in number.
Korean game developers were, as always, producing some very solid games - and Psygnosis was a heavy weight publisher - releasing all sorts of games (many of which were also released on the PS1).
Keep an eye out for entries by Epic MegaGames (who is best know today for Fortnite, and producing the Unreal engine), Criterion - and the first game from a small studio called Larian. Also keep a lookout for what is possibly the weirdest choice for a licensed game ever ("Forbes Corporate Warrior")

Ooh, thanks for reminding me to get cracking on parts 9 and 10. Admittedly, we've been stalling on them - because they've become very difficult to produce. As games get more into Windows 98 and early 3DFX graphics drivers, they become harder to run - which makes capturing footage difficult. But we will continue soon! Honest!

Omg thank you so much, I finally found the name of the game that I had the korean demo of as a kid. Never found it just by looking for an rpg with a blond guy wearing a purple armor fighting slimes for some reason. Legend of the ancient dragon!

Quite a great list. Most of these games feel bizarre yet interesting, it feels as if every company was trying to find a style while experimenting with the genres, but maybe it's because I know next to nothing about these foreign dev teams. I'm leaving with quite a few titles to try for educational purposes, great job!
