Great video! I recently got hold of an old Windows XP PC, I stuck a graphics card in it and man, what a blast! It's been fun picking up PC games from auction sites, car-boot sales etc and installing from discs, so many great games from late 90's early 2000s. I use a glide wrapper for tricky 3DFX stuff and everything else runs native right out the box no messing! I'm just plating original Deus ex, Fallout 2 and 18 Wheels of Steel (precursor to Euro truck simulator games), and something called Space Rangers 2 which has been really fun so far.

I was a huge fan of the Star Wars pod racing game, probably one of my most played racing games outside of Mario Kart. When we discovered the cheat codes... great times. We had increased player 2 speed significantly to the point it was practically uncontrollable then tricked a few friends and family into trying to beat us as we giggled uncontrollably.

16:02 Me and my bro could never leave the starting lovations. The bots were too good. Also A vs P had the AI tell your exact lovations and yet another AI that constantly lied to bots about your exact locations. Because apparently they always knew where to shoot even if we were on the ceiling. The game has no HUD so we probably never knew about invisibility or other special attacks.

You sure know how to pick them! And then how to present them so that even I could want to get into genres I didn't use to care for. :) I played the Star Wars Racer back when it came out as a demo on a gaming magazine CD. It was great! I kind of lost a lot, usually crashing into the rocky scenery. I mean, I was closely inspecting the rocks for graphical glitches. That's right! I guessed both SimCity and Fallout were going to be in the video. :D Yay! Now, I've yet to play those... Regarding the commanders in Panzer General, I think that a good commander would not only know how to strategise and win battles, but would also treat his troops well and earn their loyalty. And it might be this loyalty, plus the increased morale, that would explain the mechanic of having more turns. So I think it's close to reality, even if it unbalances the game a bit.

I'm gonna blow your mind! Star Wars Racer recently got a remaster. @@OldAndNewVideoGames Oh, a remaster, nice. I suppose though that it comes with more demanding system resources. It's good though that the game gets more attention that way. I once read about a general that was so appreciated by his troops, that when he died, they wrote him a poem. And I'm pretty sure morale is very important in combat. I think some games have that implemented as a mechanic. Not sure if that was the same intention in Panzer General. :)

“Hi”? No, I always look this way. 😄 My ex & me played right through Omikron but on the Dreamcast. the city was massive for the time but combat was awkward, the thing is I can say the same of Shenmue, another highly respected game of the time. The fact is even in ‘98 - ‘99 devs were still trying to figure out how to do this stuff, especially within the limitations of console hardware & whilst the PC version could have better hardware to work with it was still a version of the same game. Still the city was huge, there was decent voice acting, (better than the English language version of Shenmue, yikes!) a compelling story & a great soundtrack. Also my ex & me are both Bowie fans, so that helped sell us on the game. 😄 Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer is by far & away the best thing to come out of that festering corpse of a movie. Again my ex & me hammered it on N64 but I have the PC version in the pile of retro games I keep to hand because it’s just such fun, especially in 2 player. “The perfect Sci-fi racer that’s not Wipeout” is the perfect description. I never played Rollcage in the day & I definitely missed out because I have it now & it’s a blast. It’s got some unique mechanics that mean it deserves to be a better remembered classic. Aliens Vs. Predator was better than it had any right to be, considering it’s based on a child’s playground argument. 😄 It was an absolute blast, especially multiplayer. The fact that the 3 species really did play differently was fantastic for the time & like you said, playing as the alien was a truly unique experience. Indiana Jones: atIM is, as you said, Indiana Jones x Tomb Raider & that’s a good thing, in fact it’s a great thing & absolutely 1 any Indi fan must play. I have a confession to make, I played Fallout 1 & 2 long after I played 3 & New Vegas. As I’ve said I was obsessed with 3D for a long time but the story from 3, along with everyone’s praise of 1 & 2 convinced me to play them & they really do live up to the hype. Discworld Noir was a departure from the other games but in a great way. My ex, her sister & me love the Discworld books, games & even the live action movies (the Cosgrove Hall animated ones were dog s**t) so we ate it up & in fact I still have my original copy for PC. Any Discworld fan *must* play it! Good lord those Cosgrove Hall animated movies are where joy & laughter go to die. They’re like anti-comedy. What a list! Wow! Even some of the games I haven’t commented on because they’re not my thing are some of the most influential games of all time. Great video, thanks!

While I wouldn't call myself a David Bowie fan, I have this unexplained love for "Space Oddity". I love that is has a story, I love how it plays out, I love everything about it. Anyway... I completed one of the Shenmue games on OG XBox. It was fun. I spent like at least 80% of my time playing AVP as the Alien. I mean predator was cool and all, but the Alien was just soooo much fun! You could hide everywhere, run around the ceilings and just drop on whomever you wanted to, disappear and reappear somewhere else and put someone else there to "sleep". It was great! For me Fallouts are ranked as below: FNV > F2 > F1 > F3 > insert something > F4/F76 (for different reasons) > FTactics Brotherhood of Steel on the consoles I've only played for like a couple of hours or so, so I'm not gonna rank it. If you think these were great, wait for the next one. It should be out Tomorrow on Patreon, and I feel I've a much stronger selection. And yes, I say it as a die-hard fan of Die Hard, I mean Fallout, naturally I meant Fallout. ;)

Aliens versus Predator - I played through the Gold version of this game. I liked it, although I do have a few complaints. First, there's no real story to any of the campaigns, in fact, the levels in each campaign aren't even really related to each other. The first level of the marine campaign takes you through a base that has been built around the alien derelict, and you even find a chamber with the space jockey in it. I was quite disappointed that the parts of the ship you see, as well as the space jockey, are probably about 1/4 the size that they should be. There's really no reason for it either, they could have easily scaled the models up with no loss in performance. I was also hoping that while playing as the alien, you'd encounter other aliens. As I recall, the original release didn't allow you to save during the levels. The Gold version allowed you to save during levels, but you were only allowed to save a limited number of times. Not a limited number of save slot, but a hard limits for how many times you could save. I downloaded a small program that ran in the background and removed the limit. It also allowed you to do things like switch species in the middle of a level, although that seemed pretty hot and miss. I also had a hard time running it on my old Windows 98se system. I had to play with the graphics settings and could only run it in low res. For a long time, this game was notorious for not working properly on Nvidia cards. Finally, one user found the problem and made a patch. About a month later, Nvidia themselves announced that they had "coincidentally" found the incompatibility with their graphics drivers and fixed it. Gee, years of problems and then they just happen to find a fix a month after a user finds a fix. For all the problems, I will say that I liked the alien models in this game much more than the ones in Alien versus Predator 2. To me, the alien models here just look smoother and more accurate than the ones in the supposedly more advanced sequel.
