Window seats are great, but on longer flights (5+ hrs) I like to get the aisle so that I can freely get up and walk around, stretch my legs, go to the bathroom, etc without having to wake someone up. That is the wooorst. I don’t sleep on planes at all so I feel completely stuck if someone next to me is sleeping and I can’t move around.

YES! I got stuck on a 13hr flight & couldn't get around the passed out man in the aisle seat. Was too polite to wake him up which is my fault. 😹

I totally agree with all of these being a travel enthusiast myself. Just to add on with clothes: my dad was in the Navy and he raised me to dress comfortable, but prepared for anything. The chance is unlikely, but if you were ever involved in a crash what would you want on your body and with you in case of survival? I always wear tennis shoes, a hat, socks, etc. and have my backpack close :)

Nicole - 5 Million Mile flyer and I have been surprised by all the "travel experts", whom I have researched, who have NEVER suggested this very simple and effective "travel tip"... Bring a pillowcase with you!... If you are on a longhaul flight (or even a shorter flight) and you are in a window seat and you want to rest your head and you've brought with you any kind of coat or jacket, place the jacket inside the pillowcase and... Voila... You have a (much) more comfortable pillow... 40 years of flying and I have never seen anyone (other than myself) do this... Also, when you get to your destination your pillowcase can be used to segregate any worn clothing items (socks, etc)... I'm aware of several other make-your-flight-more-enjoyable travel tips but as I don't provide travelogue videos professionally (I'm actually a TV producer), I don't want to sound too pedantic.

  • @mikeymutual5489

    @mikeymutual5489

Actually, a travel pillow will be much more comfortable. And if you get a blow-up travel pillow, it won't take up any space as well. But nice try.

Excellent tips. Especially the noise cancelling headphones. They are a godsend. No more screaming toddlers, no more exhausting constant noise from the jet engines. If the landing is smooth and I hardly feel a bump, I make sure to say “nice touchdown” to the pilot. Good point about thanking the flight attendants. I’ll remember that.

FA’s are remarkable! I was on a red eye flight that was a connecting flight for one passenger! The plane didn’t have many passengers and aside from the FA I was the only woman. At boarding time the FA told everyone that a young woman was getting on the plane with three children under the age of 5 who were all air sick! She offered to have the gentleman move forward and to collect “barf” bags from the seat backs and pass them back. They moved like greased lightning! Mom boarded and I took one child, mom kept the youngest and the FA took the last one! She carried that child on her hip the entire flight even while serving drinks and snacks! She was remarkable!

Hi Nicole! The Thank you note is such a great idea! Most people don’t realize that being a FA is not an easy job let alone that your a safety professional and that your responsible for the safety of that flight. So this definitely will make them feel so appreciated. Great ideas and tips as well! I’m def going to check out those headphones, great call! Take care! 😊

Fantastic tips ! My suggestions are to invest in a pair of silicone ear plugs. They cost only a couple of dollars a piece and can be reused multiple times. They block out the aircraft engine noise and can be used in conjunction with noise cancelling headphones to block out the sound of the aircraft engines. They can be very relaxing to use. Them and the neck rests, the eye shades as well, help us to sleep.

I do agree that flight attendants are the sweetest cause when i was 10 one flight said to me while i was going to my seat " you're so cute " and that made my day and flight a lootttt better , i kept smiling throughout the flight by hearing that one sentence, the flight attendant who said that to me , I'm so thankful that u said that , i really appreciated it ❤❤

I would agree with the thank you note/ gift card/ candy BUT only once arrived to destination...otherwise it does look like a bribe and you’re seeking special treatment, and that may come off as manipulation. No one likes to feel ‘forced’ to treat someone ‘ special’, which this tactic is seeking to do, since you said so yourself.

For people who have neck problems, using a neck brace (the c-collar type that are used by EMS and hospitals after a neck/spine injury) may be a far more comfortable choice than using a neck pillow. I personally use the Aspen Vista one that I got after a neck injury as a result of a fall where I hit my head, neck and back as I fell backwards quite hard. Amazon does have them along with replacement pads and the awesome thing about it is the fact that it's adjustable with just a turn of a knob. However, it's a little pricey (about $60 for the brace itself). Just to attest to it's comfort level- once I get it on and sitting nice and comfy (about as well as you can considering how they seem to pack people like sardines in economy), I just let the brace take the weight of my head and pass out within 10 minutes. Although, as I have then slept so deeply and soundly, I may have spooked quite a few flight attendants as they ended up waking me up once we've landed and are at the gate. Although, they've also commented that the neck brace seemed to be so comfortable as I was so deeply asleep when they woke me up.

More tips: instead of buying a cover for your suitcase to make it more recognizable, put a t-shirt on top of the bag. it works just the same, but make sure to use a unique t-shirt, for example, a t-shirt from a place you have visited. also, make sure that the shirt is not too special because it might rip on certain conveyor belts. if you do not want to sacrifice a t-shirt, or you can't find one, try tying a bandana on the top of your bag, where the people tie your luggage tags. if you are using a neck pillow, secure it on the top of your carry-on. If it is a suitcase, tie it to the bottom, and secure it tightly. If you are using a backpack, then tie it on the handle. instead of buying an earphone splitter, just use a better quality version of the earphones they give on planes, though some people do not like these, they are not that expensive, and can work the same. if you need things like gum during your flight, buy it in places or stores like stop and shop, because they are cheaper there than in the airport, where things are like 3x more expensive. Try to only go to the airport main shops unless you really need something. Even on your long road trips or car rides, bring a pack of goldfish or something else that is salty. first, lick the salt off of the cracker and then eat it.

I'd only get it if you fly round-trip at least 3 times a year. $85 for five years is really nice, but really only worth it if you travel a ton. Especially great if you're a business traveler AND you travel for leisure. I flew 4 round trips this year (RFD-LAS 2x, ORD-CVG-DUB, ORD-SYR) and Precheck sure would have been valuable.

The noise canceling headphones changed my life. I am a very nervous flyer and they changed the game for me.

i'm watching this not even because i have any plans of flying anywhere but because i miss it! :( a tip i heard from someone is to actually wear something nice enough when you're travelling internationally, its not canon obviously but it usually helps with immigration officers etc if you look reasonably smart in attire

I actually am the opposite and try not to eat on planes as it spikes your glucose levels because you can't get up and walk around after to lower the spike. Glucose spikes are linked to a lot of things like wrinkles/aging, mood swings, inflammation etc. I do try and drink water though as that's important! Also, that last one is so cute! would never have thought of that!!!

On longer flights, I bring slippers and take my shoes off. I also wear loose fitting socks. This helps the circulation in my lower legs and makes recovery faster, and is so much more comfortable than wearing shoes.

Funny coincidence, I was deliberating on booking seat in advance and you addressed that right away. I am flying from BLR to NRT then NRT to LAX. Both, of these flights is pretty much over the pacific- but I am travelling solo so I feel sitting near the window will be convenient, since I don't have to move out of the way for the person next to me! I'll have to look for a good neck pillow and research on the limits of bringing snacks! Thanks for the video!

If I have extra space I'll carry on a pair of open slippers when it's too stuffy or warm potentially on the plane. That way I'll have some fresh air when needed as opposed to the walking shoes?
